  1. An intentional walk, in the what, 3rd inning? It's no question you still pitch to him. Game wasn't on the line.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) If nothing else, the general sentiment in early April was that keeping Milledge around would win more games this season for the sox than keeping the Stealth Elf. The Elf has emphatically proven that incorect. Man I forgot about the whole Milledge experiment. That is something I was wrong about.
  3. Aren't we getting a bit ahead of ourselves with the Lillibridge love? Don't get me wrong, what he's doing is nice. But I'm still not a believer. Also, I think I argued with jut about everybody in here about Greg Walker/the hitting. Shockingly, a team full of players with a career track record are hitting. You'd think I would have said "The Earth is flat" when I even suggested this team would hit. Of course, there are no threads praising Greg Walker for his work with Lillibridge. It has to work both ways, guys.
  4. Who knew the bullpen wouldn't suck for 6 months and that this team would start hitting.
  5. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 27, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) Disagree. By a country mile. You don't have SSs who can hit over .280, get double digit HRs and play stellar SS day in and day out on trees. You either draft them, trade for them or sign them as a UFA/international player. The White Sox struck gold with him. He may not be an Albert Pujols-special player, but he's right up there. I would like to add that Alexei is probably the best shortstop in the AL. There are a few shortstops in the NL who I would rather have (H. Ramirez, Reyes, Rollins, Starlin Castro, etc) but he's easily a top 7 at his position. Good shortstops are hard to come by, even in the draft. Marty34 needs a new TV or something.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 25, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) As I regularly say to fathom, I try my best to pretend the summer of 2009 never happened. Wow. Peavy, Pena, Rios. Give me death. Peavy: Why? He has a chance to be a major contributor to this team. I fully understand the injury risk and cost, but why do people want to think Clayton Richard was every really that good here? Pena: Sox fans really need to stop this weird obsession with Brandon Allen. He's still in AAA. We're a below average team not because we're missing a slow corner position player who won't ever get a shot. Rios: There are MAYBE 10 actual, legit CF's in baseball and he is one of them.
  7. So wait, power hitters who strike out a lot and don't walk are needed on this team?
  8. The obvious solution is to call of Dyan Viciedo.
  9. The sac bunts and the obsession with stealing bases drives me up a wall. NL style baseball sucks anyways, but it irritates me when this team is built to slug. Giving up outs sucks. With that being said, Ozzie is still a top 10 manager in baseball right now.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 15, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) I don't recall there being too much complaining about the Danks/McCarthy deal. Perhaps you're the one revising history. I'm way to lazy to look up threads, but I remember my whole argument being the organization knows that player best (McCarthy) and they're selling him high. People were drinking the McCarthy kool-aid like it was free beer.
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 15, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Juan Pierre has a .316 OBP and is our leadoff hitter. He is also 6/14 on stolen bases. I think most smart GMs/managers would realize that dude is not a leadoff hitter anymore. Baseball is perhaps the one game where statistics can tell you so much more about the game than watching. Runs scored is predicated on on-base percentage not batting average. And steals are pretty much a horrible idea unless the runner is successful about 80% of the time. These are proven statistic statements yet our management did not get the memo. It is stuff like this that irks me so much about KW and Ozzie. I hated this deal when it was made, and I believe I took s*** for it here. Speedy, slappy guys are the worst kind of players. Further, playing the bunting/stolen bases NL smallball bullcrap is awful too.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ May 15, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) I know it is unscientific, but at more than half of the people that responded have done the same or better than Williams at trades. What does that tell you? I'll bet that way more than half would agree they can manage better than Ozzie. No wonder the team is doing so poorly. Hell, they wouldn't even be good posters here. It doesn't tell me anything. I remember people b****ing about the Danks/McCarthy trade and wanting to crucify KW. I'm sure the people from that thread are still holding to their belief that it was an awful trade. Oh wait. It's easy to play arm chair GM and have revisionist history at the same time.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 15, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) lol. Are you serious? Gio would be the ace of this staff right now. And he's going to be cheap for quite a while. Inflated Oakland numbers are Inflated QUOTE (coco1997 @ May 15, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Kenny wouldn't have been so desperate to trade for the albatross that is Jake Peavy if the Sox had still had Gonzalez at the time. But wait, I thought Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda were so great. So why would you need Gio if you have those to pitching studs? /I think Richard and Poreda are overrated.
  14. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 15, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) Exactly. His recent performance has been garbage on trades and transactions. I give him credit for the Quentin pickup and getting Danks. But the amount of damage done from the Swisher DEALS cannot be understated in my opinion. You keep talking about all this damage done with the Swisher trade and it baffles me. How does this team miss Gio when this team is currently using a 6 man rotation? Tell me why you think Ryan Sweeney isn't anything more than a below average outfielder? Tell me when Chris Carter puts up the numbers of Konerko or Dunn. And Swisher didn't leave here and put up MVP numbers in New York.
  15. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 15, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) It's more of a recency thing. I used to trust in KW, but I can no longer after the Swisher trade, where we got nothing back in return for a guy who had one bad year in our uniform but still IMO was a proven player (and now has gone on to prove that clearly). That trade was absolutely awful, the Yanks raped us on that trade and I felt that way immediately after hearing about it and history has proved me right. It seemed that KW was willing to do anything just to get him out of town, including getting fleeced. I don't care how much you hate a guy don't give him away for nothing if he has value. To me that is completely unacceptable, and it hurt this franchise big time especially when you consider what we gave up for Swish to begin with. They raped us so bad that the following off-season they tried to trade him and couldn't find a taker. But you clearly admit Swisher had a bad year with us, and yet you expect KW to get something of value in return? Swisher is a pain in the ass to have as a teammate. The dude never shuts up. I also find it funny that the "proven player" only seems ok when it's used against KW or Ozzie. It wasn't acceptable when I argued this team would hit when they were slumping because practically the whole team is a group of proven players, but it works for Swisher? Who really hasn't been much better since leaving here. I'm not saying that was a good trade overall, but the only player who I really miss in that deal will end up being Carter. I could make half my starts in Oakland and put up the numbers Gio is. You can have that Ryan Sweeney garbage too.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 14, 2011 -> 05:02 AM) As of this moment, you don't trade him for a goddamn thing. Oh, and not wanting to count on Peavy? How about not wanting to count on Phil Humber...you know, the dude who is 28 and has never had any sort of sustained success at the major league level? He's proven he can be adequate, but you are talking about replacing a guy who is almost an ace with a guy who is probably a 4.50 ERA type guy at his best. That is absolutely absurd. As of right now, the Sox have, optimistically, anywhere from a 25-50% chance of winning the division. If they trade Danks, that drops to 5-10%. This needs to be repeated. Since when did Peavy get the health of Buehrle and when did people think Humber magically got better at pitching? I'm excited that we're getting this out of Humber but c'mon. The bottom will fall out soon enough.
  17. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 14, 2011 -> 02:43 AM) After the Swisher and Javy trades I have no trust KW will get anything decent in return for Danks, I'd rather opt for the draft picks after 2012 The irony in this post is laughable. Never mind the fact that KW once traded an "untouchable" prospect to get Danks, and that untouchable prospect turns to s*** while Danks turns out good. You have no faith in KW's ability to get talent for Danks when he originally brought Danks in? Seriously? Also, why do people just assume the draft pick compensation is going to be around after the new CBO? All indications are that baseball wants those removed.
  18. I don't think our six best prospects could even get Posada. But anyways, what was the point of this thread?
  19. Not a chance, ever. Konerko has never been a top 10 player for an extended period of time in the majors. Further, he has never been the best first baseman EVER while he has played. He's had a very solid career. But not a chance is he a hall of famer
  20. Add another reason to the "won-loss record for pitchers is pointless" towering mountain. Danks has been great and has no wins. I heard on B&B today in Danks' 7 starts, 5 have been quality starts. Teams win ~75% of a pitchers quality starts. John Danks has been one of the most unlucky pitchers over the last 3 years. Never gets run support or pen support it seems.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 6, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) You don't think a qualified GM is going to talk the price down, even a tiny bit, by bringing the record into it? Really? If an actual GM is using win-loss record in trade discussions I think that GM would get laughed at by every big league team.
  22. I have been posting off and on for a bit, but what are these like? I mean, if I say "Hey, I'm Paint it Black" is everybody going to hate me for being an asshole? I swear I'm a good guy. Ok seriously though, I don't know too many Sox fans IRL that are as into it as me, so I'd be down. I'd suggest Bacardi at the park. Drinks are not too expensive, good food, and it's right there.
  23. Everyone in this thread will be back in 3 weeks. Since I'm still watching, tonight and tomorrow because of no night game and no game at all, I plan on reading more and watching the NHL playoffs.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 4, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) Having a panic attack over how we should fire everyone involved with the organization is comical to me. Quoted for truth.
  25. White Sox winning a game in Oakland? What is this I don't even. They SHOULD win 2 of 3 in Seattle. That offense is brutal.
