  1. Anyone have any idea how rare or hard it is to get tickets to the general public for the playoffs? My dad's birthday is on October 5th so I thought tickets would be a nice surprise. However, I'd rather not take it in the moon from stubhub if I can avoid it, and plus I'm always at my computer at noon at work. Any experiences negative or positive would help.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 17, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) Wow, Farmer is SO fired up. Am I the only one listening to the Score feed? I would be...but I called in sick to work today. Kind of Wish I was listening
  3. f*** yeah Paulie. Tigers pen in the 5th? Things are looking good
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Gee, good comparison. A 23 year old not far from being a rookie entering 2012 versus the highest paid DH in baseball and a veteran in his 30's. I would bet they both have pretty similar numbers with RISP or 2 outs for the year. HOW ABOUT WE GET SOME PRODUCTION FROM PAUL KONERKO? Nobody wants to discuss the elephant in the room, which is that Konerko's not close to 100%, AJ is fading again and we just don't match up with Cabrera, Fielder and a clutch Delmon Young (at least against us) comparatively. Viciedo would be a DH in a perfect world. Unless you are projecting Viciedo as s 40 homer 100 RBI a year guy, I can't live with the low OBP and strike outs. And yeah you're spot on with Konerko. But to be fair, I font think there is a lineup in baseball that matches up to Cabrera, Fielder, and Young. You beat Detroit with run prevention.
  5. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 17, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) I wonder how many White Sox fans would like to see Dunn in another uniform next year. I know sabermatricians say that he gets on base and he walks and hits home runs and a strike out is just another out and blah blah blah, but seeing him swing and miss or take a 3rd strike is getting really old. Only the dumb ones want him gone. If you're tired of the strike outs without the big production that should come with them, then Viciedo is your man
  6. Vicideo diving catches always look awkward. And as I type this he drops an easy ball
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) Robin's current season of MLB 2K11 on Xbox 360 doesn't show that Sale pitches on Monday. Thread over. But in all seriousness it makes sense. Skip a start. Give him some needed rest.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:47 PM) I believe that's 39 games finished for Myers. He needs 6 more for option to kick in. I don't think he gets it. Do post season games count, or just regular season games? Excuse my ignorance if this has already been covered.
  9. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:44 PM) f*** that bro! The SOX need to play this game with zero interference from mother nature. Where will you be sitting... I'll buy you a beer. 535. Man I'm just to frustrated right now. And plus I listened to the 9th on the radio...just to hear Farmer say there is, "no professionalism" in the game now while he b****ed about Valverde for an inning (for the record I can't stand his antics, but don't spend an entire inning of a broadcast b****ing about it)
  10. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) Down 8-1 did you guys really think they were going to come back? Let's split this b**** tomorrow and put the Tigers back 2. I am going to the game and the SOX don't lose when I go to games. I'm going too and I hope it f***ing rains. I don't know why I got suckered into buying tickets. Happens every damn time.
  11. Honest question: Why the f*** did Hudson get to his there? Another honest question: The Wise hitting third thing has not worked. Why the f*** does this continue to happen?
  12. Well what do you expect from a power hitter pitching hittin... oh wait.
  13. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) I'm against bunting in almost all situations. Why give the other team an out? I have seen it fail more than I have seen it work. f*** bunting! This. It also goes without saying that if you don't trust your #2 hitter to handle the bat, he should not be hitting #2. Bonus: Especially with Wise coming up next. I'm currious as to what the win % would have done had that bunt even been laid down. I was at the game last night, and after that at bat all the excitement was just sucked out of the stadium. I know Wise homered last night, but I'm starting to get REALLY tired of the awul at-bats, expecailly from the 3 hole.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:42 AM) You mention the burnt out, gas can bullpen, while your $17 million starter can't even finish the 6th inning? He forced them to get 10 outs, since he had already thrown 117 pitches. The offense deserves blame too, but excuse me if I would like to see Peavy outpitch the other team's starter in a clutch game. I'm shocked that a pitcher who struck out 9 threw a ton of pitches. Ok, snark aside, I can count the number of ACTUAL #1/aces in baseball on one hand right now. Besides, I'll take 3 runs/ 9 K's and 2 walks (IIRC, I was at the game and kept score last night) against a real ass lineup in Detroit. Besides, was the strike zone as tight as it looked from my seats last night? It felt like there were a ton of pitches that didn't go his way.
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 03:15 PM) Guilty until proven innocent. The new normal in the Internet age. Yes, because the court of public opinions on the internet holds the exact same standards as our legal system.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:55 PM) Rios and Dunn last year are probably the biggest indictments of Ozzie. I just don't feel comfortable with these arguments. Mainly because I can't personally say what is different. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Is that just good luck for Robin or did Ozzie help contribute to their bad seasons in 2011? See above. I just don't know. I'm not trying to ignore factors that I can't measure/recognize, but really, what do we know? I know the players have said things are more relaxed. Is that the main factor? I honestly have no idea.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) What's baffling to me is the same people crying about Thornton being used were crying he wasn't being used when Meyers served up a meatball the other night in Baltimore. Wasn't me. Hell there have been a few games recently where Thornton has been pitching in the 8th and I'm screaming for Meyers even with nobody on. Personally I'd rather die with Meyers than Thornton. Thornton's velocity has decreased noticeably. And it's straight. And his second offering isn't good.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:02 AM) Indeed. The fact this thread is here and its not a joke just shows how successful this year has been. The Sox are going into September, the final month, in first place. I had them losing at least 90 games. Props to KW, Robin and everybody involved for making me feel proud to be a white sox fan again. Jesus. How awful was ozzie? It's his fault I became so evil. Thank god one of the worst managers the sport has ever seen is failing somewhere else. I'm not trying to have 2011 arguments, but a typical Adam Dunn, a healthy Jake Peavy, a focused Alex Rios, and a kick ass Chris Sale would make a drunk like me good at managing. I'm not saying Robin is doing a bad job (I have actually been impressed with how tactical he is) but those 4 things have helped....a lot.
  19. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) The handling of the pitching staff is embarrassing right now. This. I wish I could explain why Thornton is still seeing leveraged situations. It's baffling to me.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:56 PM) Mike (NJ) [via mobile] Keith, what are your thoughts on Chris Sale? Klaw (1:25 PM) I ranked him 47th. The White Sox took him 13th. You do the math. Maybe there's a reason Keith Law is at ESPN and not making actual decisions. See: QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:46 PM) I for one am shocked that a man, who's job it is to offer opinions on projecting players is wrong every once in a while. Seriously sox fans, if you want to drink the farm system kool aid, there are places for that. Don't get upset when the adults tell you things you don't want to hear. Does Soxtalk hate Goldstein too? He also says mean things about the White Sox.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) So is the vendetta by Law against a single franchise (see Joe Cowley versus Toronto/Canada) simply because of bitterness about the Mike Sirotka deal and hate/dislike for KW. Both are probably equally bad. But he's paid to give a professional opinion...and his opinion is obviously colored and biased. Sox message boards are ruled by emotion/s and sometimes reason, but you can't compare the two forms of media. Heh I love the this talking point. Except it really isn't true. And before we go "b-b-b-but the Wells trade!!!" KLaw wasn't even in Toronto when that deal went down. This has been proven. And frankly, all the terrible things Law says about the Sox system, he's been pretty much spot on since he started as ESPN. Oh and he was really high on Beckham too. Further, why would someone who is paid to give their professional opinion, risk their professional reputation on some petty (non-existent) grudge?
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:46 PM) Only because they went ALL the way back to Durham and 1990 and skipped the late 90's for some reason. For the record I didn't read the article (I have insider, link isn't working for me...says I'm restricted even when I'm logged in) My bad if I missed that point.
