Aaron Rowand Working Radio During Yanks Series
Paint it Black replied to Noonskadoodle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One of the most overrated White Sox players ever. Still, there is no way he could suck any less than DJ on the radio. -
Dunn to play LF during Cardinals series, Viciedo to sit
Paint it Black replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 05:43 PM) I'd rotate Viciedo with Rios some too. Couldn't hurt to get a little time in RF this year. Just thinking about how much ground De Aza would have to cover between Dunn in LF and Viciedo in RF makes me laugh. -
White Sox draft Courtney Hawkins OF out of Carroll HS (TX)
Paint it Black replied to knightni's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) Blah. Not a fan of another OF this early with the organization starving for SP. Meh this org is starving for ANY talent. Can't be picky, you know? And besides, no team drafts for need instead of best available player (obviously ignoring signability w/ BAP) -
White Sox draft Courtney Hawkins OF out of Carroll HS (TX)
Paint it Black replied to knightni's topic in FutureSox Board
I love this pick. Athletic OF who could hit .300 with 30+ bombs. These are the types of players (high ceiling) the sox need 10 of in their system. He is already the best player in the system. That's pretty sad. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 31, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) Crede was a clucth hitter, and I believe many of us remember him as a better hitter than he actually was. Beckham hasn't shown to be a clutch hitter, yet. Aside from that difference, I would believe it's probably just the HRs that standout. Meh. You only remember clutch because Crede ha dbig hits when it mattered. To be fair to Beckham, he hasn't that that bright spotlight. I also think it's unfair to compare RBI's, since Beckham spent much of him time last year hitting at the bottom of the order behind guys that couldn't get on to save their lives. A lot of those teams Crede played on, those guys go on.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) If Soler's in the $20-25-30 million range, you have to pass. However, if they could sign him to a similar deal to what Viciedo got (and between $12.5-$17.5 million)....where they control his rights well beyond the first four seasons in the majors (like Cespedes and the A's), then you have to think about it seriously. This. It drives me up a wall when people think ~$15 million for a guy like this is risky but spending a smilar amount on a middle 30 something isn't.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) Extremely early of course, but Geraldo Concepcion isn't exactly setting the world on fire. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...&pid=615868 IIRC, he only got good money because of the pending CBA agreement. Most people I trust didn't think he was *that* good.

It must be said - Hawk Harrelson has to go
Paint it Black replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 22, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Note - professional broadcaster, not hack ex-player. This is a pipe dream. Hell we're talking about the White Sox. In this org, all job qualifications worth a damn start with "Are you a former White Sox player?" The sad thing too is, the radio broadcast sucks even harder than the TV. One game I got so sick of Hawk I lined up the TV with the radio call (with DVR obviously) and DJ annoys me more than Hawk. -
The Official Thread for Joe Cowley and his Agenda.
Paint it Black replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 10:48 PM) Remind everyone how good our starting rotation would look with Hudson and Gio Gonzalez out there, with Chris Young in CF, to boot. Remind everyone how nobody in baseball cares about the White Sox anymore because their manager is plain Jane/boring/vanilla. God I can't stand Cowley. I like how now that Chris Young is finally starting to hit (D Backs have only been waiting 7 years for that to happen) and NOW that trade is bad once again. Also, if anyone decides which team is fun or boring by the manager, that person is automatically an idiot. Last, Cowley was on B&B Tuesday afternoon. I swear within two minutes of saying the Ozzies Castro comments were blown out of proportion (full disclosure: I tend to agree) he then said that he hopes the media is going to do some "actual reporting" on the Peavy being in a bar story non-story in Wrigleyvile (on deadspin.com). So to summarize: you need a manager who is exciting to be relevant, but when he makes comments about a NATIONAL figure, it's no big deal. But players at a bar in their social life need some actual reporting done on the matter. Got it. Ladies and Gentleman, we have passed Mariotti territory. -
I was told by nearly everyone here that once Greg Walker is fired things will improve. Nope, a lack of talent (Morel), or not wanting to be coached (Beckham, Rios) were not to blame. Doesn't this season so far (albeit a very small sample) prove that hitting coaches really don't matter?

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
Paint it Black replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsidetony @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) I'd more likely trust if Sam Seaborn confirmed it. Your newsletter, I'd like to sign up for it. -
2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
Paint it Black replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) I don't really see how our bonus skimming scandal would affect us in Cuba. I think the fact that we signed Viciedo months after firing Wilder is proof of that. Not sure why you think it would. As for signing Cespedes, we're talking a near major leage ready 5 tool talent. Guys like that aren't available in the draft, so I don't see how bringing up our lack of spending there really makes sense. You don't think KW would be willing to take a chance on a potential superstar? He's gambled on much less in the past. Cespedes isn't a sure thing. So I don't think I'm out of line to compare this signing to a draft pick, considering draft picks are much less expensive. My point it more as an organization, it's funny that they have no problem giving an international player without any experience culturally in America (yes it matters) millions of dollars, but can't spend anything over slot in the draft because it's too risky. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 07:41 AM) Excellent point. When was the last time we ever signed someone from Cuba???? 2008 was 4 years ago. But there hasn't been any international talent coming out of that area this whole time, right? -
2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
Paint it Black replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This isn't happening. The White Sox still have a horrible reputation in the DR and Cuba for the bonus skimming scandal. Also, someone explain to me why an organization that spends no money in the draft would pay top dollar for either of these players. -
and also part of Keith Law's take: Which I'm sure the "KLAW HAS A WHITE SOX BIAS!!!" tard posters will completely ignore.
-
There just isn't a good market for slow, injury prone corner guys. CQ has hit .245/.336/.479 over the last three years while missing on average 46 games a year. 2008 is ancient history.

Guys, if the Giants don't want a washed up veteran you know he's done. Seriously. THE G-I-A-N-T-S

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) I love the people getting all hot and bothered over losing a closer. I don't think that's the case. It's trading away a cheap player you had under control for a while for a player who is similar in nature. What was gained?
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) Um Dodge what? It's been proven time and time again on here that Law is a f***in tool when it comes to the Sox, I have no f***in clue why and I don't care but he certainly has some kind of vendetta against them, no doubt. You still have not proved it. Your proof is "I know it's true." Therefore, you dodged my question. So I ask again, where is your proof of KLaw's anti chisox bias? What was he wrong/biased about that wasn't true?
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) I don't care why he has a vendetta against the Sox but he certainly does... So I see you have not disproven anything. Here, I'll add more for you to dodge and not respond to. -He loved the Beckham draft pick Seriously, explain to me why a NATIONAL BASEBALL WRITER would put a personal vendetta over his or her job? If you don't like the truth, fine. But don't make things up because you don't.

"This is actually a pretty good trade for both sides if you are realistic about what Molina is" -Tweet from Kevin Goldstein of BP. Protip, sox fans.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) Dude, it's Keith Law talking about a White Sox-Blue Jays trade, wtf do you think he's going to say? Wait, people still believe that stuff? Even though it's been proven he wasn't even working there at the time of the Wells/Sorotka trade?
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) I'd say KW thinks he just got a future all-star caliber pitcher - his stuff certainly sounds that good. 148 Ks:18 BBs is unbelievable. Ok this needs to be said. Stop looking at minor league stats. Now. They're highly unreliable. Most kids in the minors swing and miss a ton and have never been coached on working counts.
-
From Keith Law: "The White Sox, on the other hand, get an extreme control right-hander without much of a breaking ball who could be a dominant two-pitch reliever, but is probably a year away from seriously contributing in the majors...Molina is a good prospect, probably the best now in a fallow White Sox system, but the return seems a little light for a major-league reliever signed to a very affordable three-year deal." Hooray! Trading a major league reliever...for what looks to be another major league reliever. Let the rebuilding start!

I read somewhere (cannot find the link) that the ILSFA actually made a profit on this deal with the Sox, which is good for us taxpayers. I have no issue with the skybox thing. I mean, it's not like if it was available I would be able to afford it anyways.
