  1. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) Someone should ask KLaw what he thinks about Sale starting now.... Ugh the White Sox fandom collective butthurt over Keith Law is getting old and really embarrassing. I for one am shocked that a man, who's job it is to offer opinions on projecting players is wrong every once in a while. Seriously sox fans, if you want to drink the farm system kool aid, there are places for that. Don't get upset when the adults tell you things you don't want to hear.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) Apparently Magglio, C-Lee, Joe Crede and Aaron Rowand don't count on his list. Not to mention Michael Morse and Chris Carter. No doubt, Konerko/Dunn/AJP/Rios is an older core...Alexei's been slipping in the power department as well. That's why Viciedo is so important, as well as DeAza and Trayce Thompson/Hawkins/Barnum eventually. Except all the guys you named (minus Carter) were quite a long time ago.
  3. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:36 PM) How did they score the last play? Single by PK? Basically, yeah.
  4. St. Louis Cardinals. I find their fans to be annoying, all their well known former players (of recent at least), and former manager to be ass wipes. Red Sox would be a close second, only because everyone seems to ignore that they spend as much as the Yankees. I hate the Marlins merely for the new stadium that ripped off the tax payers. I also hate the Giants because of how they're screwing the A's over and I absolutely hate Brian Wilson. I hate how they seem to collect old and bad outfielders.
  5. What if you're like me and sort of soxtalk noob/ not a frequent poster? I would love to know more smart sox fans IRL besides my dad.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) As somebody who frequents fangraphs regularly...they don't think much of homegrown relievers. Just saying. ...Nor should you seeing as how relievers are pitchers who couldn't start for a multitude of reasons. Are they nice pieces to have? Of course. But give me 1 impact bat over 7 relievers any damn day. It's pretty embarrassing that Sox fans keep running around yelling "see, our farm system doesn't suck that bad! Look at all these rookie relievers!!!" (Not saying you're doing this J4L...just speaking in generalities here).
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) $56 Million and a number 1 pick for a DH is high. Except he's leading the league in Homeruns, 4th in RBI's, 1st in Walks. Adam Dunn is still "high" because the term "buying high" implies the player had an immediate decline after purchase.
  8. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) It's obvious but it's true. When was the last time Kenny has bought high on a guy through trade or free agency? Nick Swisher
  9. Speaking of Sale, I'm going to the game on Tuesday. Has Grandstand/Sports Depot got their head out of their ass and ordered some Chris Sale gear? My Guillen authentic jersey and Beckham T are well....tough to wear. I have been looking for Sale stuff since May.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) no account, can't read Protip: It's free to join. Plus, it's not like this will be the only thing ever you read from the Tribune.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:35 AM) WTF is this? I'm supposed to hate Carl Everett in 2005 for something he eventually did in 2011? lol. From wiki: Everyone knew Everett was a POS when he was here, so let's not rewrite history. Plain and simple, pro-sports are littered with awful human beings. I suggest getting upset about players like Josh Lueke (google the name, see the 4th link down) being able to still play baseball. You know, players who were found guilty of their crimes.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) Um, I guess I'll say it because nobody else has. The dude literally punched his wife in the face. I hate women. But c'mon now. I ain't supportin' this dude. This is a terrible transaction. The 2005 White Sox had Carl Freaking Everett on the roster. I'm sure you hated that team, right?
  13. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) Phil Rodgers thinks Stopped reading there
  14. The same people saying that having so many rookie pen arms proves that the farm system doesn't suck are the same clamoring for the veteran in the 8th.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 06:31 PM) Lol...Kansas City needs to develop an entire pitching staff before their position players leave or get expensive. I'm not worried about them yet. As for Detroit, have Fielder or Cabrera missed time this year? Otherwise, you are saying a 34 year old coming off a significant injury is going to be the big difference maker for them next year. He should help some, but let's not get carried away here. They too have pitching problems that must be addressed. BTW, let's not forget the Sox have suffered some injuries this year. Danks and Crain have been pretty big ones and yet here we are sitting in first place. If you are going to play the injury card, make sure you play it for all sides. And exactly what is Paul Konerko? He's older without the injury. Look around the starting line up. Old catcher. Old at first. If you resign Youk at third you're old there too. Rios is having a career year, do you believe he will continue this? De Aza isn't a long term solution, IMO. and Tank is...well Tank. I'm not the biggest fan as I think he needs more power and power walks if you want to put up with the average defense on his best day and tons of K's. The time to win another title is now. Not next year.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) I have no idea what we'd have to give up for Betances, but it would make sense as a precursor to a deal for a legit SP. Have you read how bad Betances has been this year? Scouts pretty much have him pegged as a pen arm.
  17. The book on Septimo as he had a tough time throwing strikes at times. Why he is being used in high leverage situations is beyond me at this point.
  18. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) I really hate that window statement, people have seemingly been saying it about the White Sox, Bears, and Bhawks for the past 5 seasons. Teams change there is no such thing as a window unless you are talking about the Celtics when the 3 main stars were all past their prime to begin with and even they put up a fight injured and all vs the Heat. When the Tigers get a full year of Cabrera/Fielder/VMart this division is about sealed up. Ditto when Kansas City finds some pitching. Their lineup is already very good. It's only a matter of time before Hosmer wins an MVP. Face it, it's highly unlikely the White Sox are going to get good years out of Konerko, Dunn, and Rios AND have Peavy and Sale healthy. Everything is going right for this year (health issues aside) and they need to capitalize right now.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Viciedo is a developed impact bat - it's his rookie season. This was a position of weakness for sure - so they grabbed Hawkins and Barnum... There could be an impact bat waiting in the lower wings now. Re: Hawkins: We're talking about a month of pro-ball experience. I was thrilled that the White Sox went after the high risk - high ceiling player, they need way more of these types of guys. Hawkins is just way to far out to call him an impact bat at this point. Viciedo has way too much swing and miss and few walks to put up with IMO. But that's a whole 'nother topic...
  20. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) I'm also surprised at all of the people willing to deal Dayan. We're talking about a 22-23 yr old kid here who may hit 30 HR's this year. It's not like our system is overflowing with guys like this. Although I agree with your point, flags fly forever. Whatever window the White Sox have left, in my opinion, it won't last long.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) The rate them by perspective "star" players. However we've apparently found value in contributing depth players with possibly some stars coming in a few years. Not the 30th ranked system. Who is worse? And almost every org is producing depth players, and almost every org has the same amount, if not more, of high ceiling star potential players. Just because a team calls up 7 pen arms doesn't mean you have a good system. Let me know when the White Sox develop an impact bat, let alone have one in their system.
  22. I wouldn't describe Addison Reed as untouchable the first half, but he's been good. Regardless, I believe Rios is the safe answer here.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 10:57 PM) For more It's so nice that were not going through this anymore. I mean not just as sox fans, but the Ozzie tribalism that kind of went on here.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) Could be interesting. Who is he filling in for? DJ
