QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) I don't think there are many on this website who were even born then. I was there with my dad and younger brother on the 3rd base side at Old Comiskey. WSI has a good article about it on their page and comments after that will bring back memeories. I was there that night of DD. At that time, the Sox sucked so they were willing to do something to get people into the stands. Boy they sure did do that!! It was a bit surreal. The fire in the upper deck and those climbing up and down the foul pole while 45 records were being flung as frisbees was a unique day. Our country needs a bit more of that entrepreneurial spirit that we so greatly lack today. Today there is idiocracy and compliance. Heck, I bet the green movement would have been in an uproar over the fire in centerfield! Back in those days, there was a great deal more independence we all had as individuals. I am greatful that I grew up in those days, they are long gone and I somewhat pity kids growing up today that are just more or less robots, and told what to do and then do. Nobody got hurt!! Not even close!! We didn’t know what to expect, they hype going into it was pretty big and the amount of people outside the park that couldn’t get in was huge. I’d like to see more of this today. Nowadays, you have to be so politically correct while at the same time there is big brother and cameras watching you 24 hours a day, now that makes me SICK.

Being a BIG White Sox fan, I certainly wanted to see the second game be played and as usual, held out hope that it might actaully happen. But,we all knew that once the field got BLOWN UP that the likelihood of the second game was just not going to happen. Where did you sit? I was in the Golden Box near the first base line. Hah, I think then, those seats cost $10.50 each!! (alot of money in those days, (thanks government for depreciating my money so intensely, jerks). Go Coho Lips! (That was a comical name, not sure where it specifically came from). Back then there used to be alot of things raining down on the Dan Ryan, mostly it was parited up Sox fans. Sweet.

Anybody know his situation after being hit? Thanks.

Details of Peavy's secret meeting with Reinsdorf at Phone Company Field leaked. Jerry Reinsdorf: Welcome to Chicago. It is very nice to meet you. Please have a seat. Jake Peavy: Thank you Mr. Reinsdorf. Usher: Sir, may I see your ticket? Jake: What? Jerry: We are in the suites section of the ball park. These seats go for $200 each but since the taxpayers of Chicago paid for them several times over, I will eat the cost of your seat. Jake: Whatever. Jerry: Would you like something to drink? Pop, a beer? Jake: Sure. a beer would be nice after that long red-eye flight in. (Vendor arrives): That will be $7 sir. Jake: What!? Jerry: Unlike the seats, the beer cost me $0.43 wholesale. I cannot comp the beer. Jake hands over a $10 Jerry: Now, I have read the details of your contract. Jake: Yes. I took a hometown discount with an option year at the end. As I have discussed with Kenny, I will accept the trade if you guarantee the final year of the contract. I really like Chicago and your club has a good chance of winning the World Series, something I am very interested in contributing to. Jerry: I see. Well, I actually wanted to discuss altering your contract to lower the guaranteed money and stretch out payments on the remaining portion through 2083, two years before Julio Cruz' contract ends. Jake: Dude, I'm out of here. Jerry: Not until you have paid for your seat (summons security)....

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) I really think when you take him away from Petco he goes from a seemingly elite pitcher, to just a pretty good pitcher. I would not want to be paying that kind of money to a "pretty good good pitcher." That money should be reserved for the absolute cream of the crop aces, not Peavy. Jake Peavy had dead arm problems last year & the year before. Usually that's a sign for something bad to come. He's great against the weak-hitting national league, he got crushed in interleague & WBC competition. I think that in the long run Peavy not coming to the Sox will be the best for both teams. The Sox need to rebuild in spite of what the team says and they do not need a multimillion dollar pitcher just to draw fans to the park. This team is lacking in all areas pitching, defense and offense. The best thing that can happen is that the Sox will make trades for prospects and start preparing for the future.

CQ is awesome, and it looks like he's gonna have another monster year. Thinking ahead though, I wonder what type of salary he's going to command when a new contract comes due, and if the Sox will meet his price? They sent Magglio, Carlos Lee, and others packing, so I wonder if CQ will be shipped off in the same manner eventually.

Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
whtsoxfan replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) I'm guessing that Getz will end up with 500+ at-bats as the Sox everyday 2B... and that Lillibridge might end up with around 1/2 that many (250'ish) as a utility guy backing up at 2B, SS, and if needed CF. Lillibridge has to start looking better at the plate though. Otherwise he could end up moving to Charlotte when Nix is healthy. I just wanted to get some thoughts on that. Not that it matters, I belive he'll serve well as an ulity perhaps at SS or CF . And just might get called down to Charlotte when Getz is healthy any way... -

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Did you watch spring training? Getz is a better hitter than Lillibridge... period... against righties AND lefties. Yes I know , I was just putting that out there. Is Getz going to play everyday and who will back him up on days off etc. ? -
Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
whtsoxfan replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1. Ozzie awarded the CF position to Wise, but many believe Anderson will platoon against LH pitchers to provide a slight RH hitter vs LH pitcher edge. Similar logic for putting in Lillibridge. 2. Getz is untested in the major leagues with only a handful of plate appearances last season. 3. Lillibridge makes more sense as a lead-off hitter than DeWayne Wise or Getz. Putting Lillibridge in at second addresses the lead-off problem while alowing Ozzie to put Anderson in CF against LH pitching. 4. Lillibridge has more speed on the bases than Getz and has the ability to steal a few bases, which the Sox want to do this year if they can. 5. The Sox have Betemit to back-up Fields at 3B. 6. The Sox will want Alexi to play as many games as possible, whereas this is not a concern for Getz, who they should have no problem subbing for. wOULD THE LINE UP CHANGE FRO EXAMPLE: Wise Getz Quentin Thome Konerko Dye Ramirez AJ Fields Against LH pitching: Lillibridge Ramirez Quentin Thome Konerko Dye Fields AJ Anderson -
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) Great, the epitome of a Chicago meathead Jim Belushi is signing the 7th inning stretch. The wrong Belushi died. Gravy Train Jim Belushi is a douche bag, to be sure, but I dont know about wishing him dead. Bill Murray, on the other hand...

here's the quote for the day: “It’s nice for him to play, obviously don’t want to face him all the time,” White Sox ace Mark Buehrle said. “I think it’s going to be tough playing 80 games on turf. I don’t how that’s going to hold up on his back. Obviously we’ll see. Hopefully he’s going to be healthy all year. Hopefully he doesn’t help them out too much.”

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) A one year deal for Hudson solves the White Sox problems as he is slotted into the lead-off spot and Anderson bats ninth and plays center. The defense is then air tight. I guess money is a huge obstacle for the White Sox this season. If KW was really going for it year in and year out, he signs Hudson for this price. Pretty sad state of affairs right now. We could have had Orlando Hudson AND Bob Abreu for about 10 million this year. Unload Dye for some prospects and you are significantly better. You could even eat a little of that salary to entice a team to trade for him. I just don't get it.

I've called comcast several times and they always seem to not even know what the mlb network is. They just think I'm asking about the mlb extra innings package. I had the same prolbem. I called comcast and had to order the package for $15.00 its called Digital Preferred...

Sox will finish in first and make a run in the Playoffs. Yanks will fall short because they lack offense and the pitching will not live up to hype. Cubs will be challenged for division lead by an unexpected opponent, but will still make playoffs. Tampa will finish last as injuries will crop up. Seattle will have the biggest turn around in the history of baseball, but fall short in division series. Giants will win the NL west and the Nat's will be competitive in the first half of the season in the east. Chicago will win the World Series in seven games against Chicago. Their will be a blizzard in the world Series that will delay the finish for a week causing the Wiggly Rats to run to the Cubs dugout for shelter. The Rats will disrupt the Cubs concentration and cause them to blow game 7 in one of the most comical finishes in world series history. The Sox will prevail because the Rat curse is now on for the Cubs. This would be a great finish for Baseball.

Why not? He'd be better than Colon and not as tough on the all you can eat buffets around town. He was a good clubhouse guy as I recall to. El Duque could probably pitch in the Big Leagues at 60. He might be 60 for all we know. He, Contreas, Ramirez and Victor sign Castro as well he might have something left.

Owens, Nix, Betemit and Wise Out of options
whtsoxfan replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think all five outfielders make the opening day roster. I'd like to see a reserve infielder that can play short. Hopefully Nix and or Lillibridge can be that player. The 11 pitchers in my opinion Buerhle, Danks, Floyd, Jiminez, Russell, Thornton, Dotel, Linebrink, Jenks. I'd like to see another left handed relief pitcher. Russell and Jiminez are out of options Thornton is left handed and Dotel, Linebrink and Jenks are locks for the staff. Who then will be the 4th and 5th starters? Richards, Colon, Marquez, Broadway? It will be interesting, I'm not convinced that Kenny is done another deal before opening day again in my humble opinion. -
I just read that KW and the Mariners are in talks of trading Carlos Quentin to the Mariners in a "MONSTER DEAL" that would send li Jarrod Washburn....Carlos Silva maybe, Morrow... here this is what it says http://bleacherreport.com/articles/117754-...de-could-happen Carlos Quentin Aaron Poreda Clayton Richard or Brandon Allen To Seattle for Brandon Morrow Wladamir Balentein Jarrod Washburn Why would he trade highly thought of Aaron Poreda who Guillen says that everyone is going to love because of the way he pitches? This trade suck...
