GAME THREAD: 4/8, CLE v CHW, 7:10pm CSN+
whtsoxfan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2010 Season in Review
A No-No? Dumb? Using the same middle reliever 3 games in a row against the same team and against the same 3 guys as the first game? gotta be concerned about Thornton's health. Can't throw him every night. We'll need him vs. the Twins' Morneau, Mauer, Thome, Kubel, Hudson -

Krause plucked Jordan and Pippen out of obscurity to form the first great Bulls triad with Jordan. He later traded for Cartwright over Jordan's objection which netted the Bulls another championship. Wasn't he also responsible for bringing Dennis Rodman in for the next series Bulls championships?

Andruw Jones spring training mean anything?
whtsoxfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) I know he had an OPS in the high .800's, 3 HR and 2 SB in the spring of '07 and another outstanding spring last year. Spring Training is fool's gold, you get your hopes up based on spring performance and you're bound to be disappointed. Jones has a mantle that is full of gold gloves and a long track record including a few decent years hitting so I am not sure the Spring Training Flash-in-the-pan analysis applies to him. -

QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) If the Sox sign Damon, that gives them a full roster of proven major league starting talent in the starting 9 and in turn, makes the bench better. Considering the improvements in starting pitching and bullpen, the team is quite the upgrade over last year's opening day cluster-cuss of question marks including Getz, Lillibridge, Wise, Anderson, Fields, Contreras, Colon, and bullpen guys like Mike MacDougal. Pierre(LF), Rios(CF), Quentin(RF), Konerko(1B), Beckham(2B), Ramirez(SS), Teahen(3B), Pierzynski©, and Damon(DH/OF) are the core starting 9 Kotsay(DH/corner OF, 1b), Vizquel(IF/pinchrun?), Jones(OF/DH), Castro©, maybe Nix (IF) are the bench... these guys are all very better used as bench players or playing the hot hand if someone slumps or gets injured (I'm looking at Konerko, Rios, Pierre, and Quentin) than rotating into the starting 9 on an every day basis. Buehrle, Peavy, Floyd, Danks, and Garcia are the starting 5 Jenks(closer), Thornton(7th/8th inning/LH situational), Putz(7th/8th inning/RH situational), Linebrink(middle relief), Hudson/Torres/Marquez (long reliever of some sort), and Williams (LOOGY if they don't carry Nix) are the bullpen. There's still some things to shake out regarding the placement of bullpen pitchers, but signing Johnny Damon makes our starting 9 and bench exponentially better with less question marks about how the team is going to produce. If the White sox sign Damon then either Andruw Jones or Nix will be out. The White Sox typically carry 12 pitchers. The choice to be made if Damon signs will be to carry 6 outfielders with only 5 infielders or 5 outfielders and 6 infielders. With 5 infielders the reserve infielder would be Vizquel.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) You think Pierre and Jones are better than Damon. Better at what, because baseball is not one of the things they are better at. It appears a little confusing but it sure as sh-t gives us a DH option as opposed to by committee. I've always thought Dye would be a terrific DH on our terms however that doesn't look like it will happen. Damon has power, is a good baserunner, is a lefty, has an above average OBP. If we get him I'm sure it would be as a DH.
-
Why are we going after Damon? Where would he fit? His defense sucks...Pierre is basically playing the position he'd play....I like Pierre, Rios, Quentin and Jones all better than Damon. What's the end game if we get Damon?

Minnesota has agreed to not offer Hudson arbitration if he is a Type A free agent, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal also tweets that the deal includes no incentives. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/83559077.html

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) I don't know if it's been mentioned here on soxtalk.com (it probably has) but what about Johnny Damon? He is a lefty, can still play in the field on a part time basis, can still hit, and his price has seemingly dropped like a rock. There's your versatility, Ozzie. At the beginning of the offseason, I was thinking no way. But now that the pickins' are slim.... it might not be a bad idea. If the Sox can be outbid by the A's. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/01/athl...hnny-damon.html A 1-2 punch of Pierre/Damon will mean an RBI feast for the #3-4-5 hitters in the Sox lineup!!

White Sox agree to terms with Jenks and Quentin
whtsoxfan replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jenks and Quentin have agreed to contracts rather than go through arbritration, much to my surprise Bobby Jenks saw his salary increase to $7.2 million, Is there a reliever in baseball making more than Bobby Jenks? I appreciate all he's done but last year was a step back from his prior years. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) I guess that's probably the best way I can imagine to replace Rich Harden. But wait they got Carlos Silva. LOL

Heres Great idea for Wrgley Field The White Sox recently stenciled "The Catch" At the spot in Left Center where Wise caught the ball to preserve a perfect game. How about the cubs stenciling "The Toss" In Left Center where Johnny "Mashman" Macchione tossed the beer on Victorino?

Until Peavy establishes himself at The Cell, I would have to consider Buehrle as the ace of the staff. -

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 08:47 PM) Congrats Mark, it was a great game to watch Thank God, Ozzie put D Wise in as a defensive replacement in CF. No way Scotty Pods makes that play! Kudos Ozzie! -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) I'm going to love it more and more each passing day, simply because there will be no more baseball games held there in the future. This is what I have to say to the Metrodome after September 2nd (the last game the White Sox will ever play at the Metrodome unless we somehow meet them in the ALCS). I’d rather have Nancy play it on the organ but this is close as I can get.
