Which Cuban would you most want to add to Sox?
LittleHurt05 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 11:06 AM) I know that's exactly who Fathom's gonna pick. If Courtney Hawkins can just be Soler-Lite, we're going to be pretty fortunate after how badly things looked following the 2013 season after a quite promising 2012 start to his career. I'd imagine it would be pretty difficult for Hawkins to suddenly become a Cuban national, but I guess we can hope. -

There's quite the lack of young good shortstops in the game today. -
QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 08:23 PM) I would imagine if this was a an actual bet Abreu would be the favorite. So I don't think your first line is right. Barring injuries, Abreu will have at least 10-15 more games played, so yeah, that already makes him a likely favorite.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) It still could be. Like we talked about earlier in the thread, 3 full seasons of Mike Trout got the Angels one playoff appearance and zero playoff game wins. A top 5 pitcher and top 5 hitter earned the 2014 Sox a grand total of 73 wins. This isn't the NBA, where one player makes you a contender, but Bryant sure as hell is a nice building block though.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) FWIW Mcaskey talked with McDonald's parents before the signing to get a better feel of the man. Also he apparently bought his own plane ticket to fly out and speak with Pace. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/03/24/bea...ersial-signing/ The fact the Bears publicly stated those things as positives makes them look bad IMO. A millionaire desperate for a job spent $500 on a plane ticket? Wow. And what else exactly did they expect Mommy & Daddy to say about him? I'm kind of torn on the issue. We obviously don't know the whole "truth" but where there is smoke, there is usually fire. I'm sure there are plenty of domestic violence cases where something bad happened but charges were never pressed. I don't want to root for and support a serial woman abuser, but I can't say I'd immediately give up my tickets either.

More ESPN nonsense, Eaton not among Top Ten CFers
LittleHurt05 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I could be convinced to take any of those 10 guys over Eaton. While it's debatable, I don't think it's crazy to not have him on there. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) What an home opener weekend for the sox. Who wouldn't want to see brad penny and john danks? Ticket-wise, you are better off having Penny or Danks pitch the home opener. People are gonna go no matter who is pitching, maybe you sell a few extra tickets later if Shark or Sale pitch on a much less desirable day.

I agree that Q "deserves" it, but in the long run the only thing that matters is whoever it is strikes out Moustakas & Hosmer every time they step up to bat. I can't stand those two.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 11:52 AM) A lot of weight loss, getting fit and getting healthy is an internal mental war. You need motivation. You need to see some kind of result. Seeing the data, for me, helps to create that picture in my mind of what needs to happen to lose weight or continue to lose weight. Agreed. I started using a calorie tracker app and its amazing how much easier it's become for me seeing everything laid out in front of me. Knowing how this meal or this exercise affects the day or know that a good morning workout and sensible lunch might make it OK to have that extra beer for dinner.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) I am only changing the title if lifer asks me to do it. I imagine Jose Abrue as Abreu's alter ego, wearing a sunglasses and a fake mustache and beard Jose Abrue works with Cliff Paul at State Farm -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 07:34 AM) I can't imagine the English FA giving up their Boxing Day fixtures. I bet the turnaround is short across Europe. I believe the final was supposed to be closer to Christmas, but it was moved up to December 18 just so England could still have their Boxing Day games. -
NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) It still pisses me off that the NCAA dropped the freedom of movement rules they tried to implement. The vast majority of these games are basically unwatchable for 38 minutes. That MSU/Virginia game was horrendous basketball. I don't get how anyone can prefer college basketball to the NBA right now unless your team is playing. Does the NBA have crying flutists? I think not. -

Sox sign Eaton to 5 yr contract, $23.5 mil
LittleHurt05 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) I never get these deals from the players' perspectives. Why not just take out an insurance policy on yourself? Yea it's not gonna pay out 43 million potentially but it's also going to give you something in the worst case scenario health wise. He has a slightly better year (same rate stats 20 more games played) than last year he could have gotten 60-80 imo. It's not just about health, it's also about performance. I'm sure he has all the confidence in the world in himself, but if 2014 turns out to be a career year, he is still set financially. s*** happens, especially with speed guys. Lose a step or two, and you aren't the same player. Athletes' careers are so short, take that money while you can. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) The longer you wait, the higher those end years go, and the less likely they are to resign. I know, it's just the concern that you are paying him for only 125 games a season. It would be nice to see a full season out of him before you commit, but sometimes you have to take the chance.
