  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) Go ahead and mock Hawk's TWTW all you want, but we need some Torii Hunter's on our team. We need some AJP's on our team. Mock away, but we need guys who give a s*** and are gamers. If you don't believe TWTW is important, I feel YOU ARE WRONG. I'm hoping Grandy is like Hunter in that he cares. If he's healthy he's a step in the right direction. Sign him as a start this offseason. Sign AJ as well as a part-time catcher/bench coach. Why didn't the Angels make the playoffs in 2010, 2011, or 2012 with Torii Hunter? Where was the TWTW?
  2. QUOTE (qwerty @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) He was still in the field of play as he made the jump for the ball. His momentum is what took him over the wall. The reason it was considered an out is because he came out of the stands with the ball, and therefore threw it. If Shuck would have just thrown the ball from beyond the fence, a home run would have been credited, but he clearly knew the rule. Interesting. I definitely have never heard of the rule about throwing the ball from the stands. Thanks!
  3. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) Royals only scored 5 more runs than the Sox last month. Their batting average was 11 points lower than the Sox. They had 41 less total bases. Their OBP was just 4 points higher. Their slugging% was 16 points lower than the Sox. The Royals .247 batting average in July was the worst they had all year. The Sox put up a better mark in June, July, and were only 2 points (.245) away from that in May. ..It's not like he came aboard and they suddenly started hitting more... KC has committed 30 less errors than the Sox, this is why they're having the better year, not George Brett who statistically has made their offense worse. But George Brett.... The biggest factor in the recent Royals turn-around is six straight games against the lowly Twins & White Sox
  4. Figured this thread was a good place to ask this. J.B. Shuck made this catch last night where he fell into the crowd in fair territory on a home run ball. Why is this not a home run? The ball landed over the fence, albeit in a player's glove. What's the rule on that?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) And apparently the Rangers still owe ARoid $40 million in deferred money. And he gets that money no matter what, suspension or no suspension.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 12:02 AM) Gee, sorry I can't make a comparison. They brought Brett to the dugout and they got to .500 and now are 2 over. We got to .500 and have lost about 90 percent of our games since. Shoulda brought Frank in in a similar Hall of Fame move to re-energize the team IMO. George Brett quit as hitting coach nearly 2 weeks ago.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:14 PM) It's hard to "luck out" on a schedule in the SEC Alabama did last year. They missed Georgia, Florida, & South Carolina. (in the regular season of course) I am not saying they weren't the best team, but they were a bit lucky on the cross division scheduling.
  8. Lose calories! Eat donuts!!
  9. QUOTE (Boogua @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:28 AM) Michael Dyer is going to Louisville and is immediately eligible. Wow. If Bama or Ohio State loses a game Louisville could be playing in the title game. They should go undefeated. Since the coaches poll just came out, I think I read Louisville's top-rated opponent this season was ranked like 40th or something. And Tennesse plays 5 of the top 10 I believe.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) I'm sure it'll stun you to know that I think all 3 of these are terrible ideas. Beckham is fine at 2b and should stay there. It's time for this franchise to call it quits on Morel, even as his defender over the years I'll say that, let someone else take a shot with him. Gillaspie fits at 3rd pretty well and will probably get better there with time. If you are giving up on Morel, then I think it's officially time cut bait.
  11. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 02:16 AM) We don't need to side track the whole thread...but for how much money these guys make the school (not just Oregon obviously), I have zero problem with them having great facilities. Oh come on, sidetracking threads is what Soxtalk does best! I have no issue with the facilities either. I just find it amusing that unpaid "amateurs" earn that much money for the school that they provide such facilities. Is Halas Hall even that nice?
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) Yet another example of white culture's lawlessness Huh, is that supposed to be funny. Bad satire if you ask me.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) I was laughing my ass off watching the one about Nikolai tesla and Edison. How can you go wrong with John C Reilly and Crispin Glover? Tammi Taylor and Ron Swanson as a married couple? The show keeps getting better and better.
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 09:00 PM) Oregon's new facility: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2...ll-building-new Sweet Jesus "Amateur" sports at their finest
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) Boo to The Challenge yesterday. I think Cara Maria was gonna get herself off if that jungle went down.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) As I continue to think about this, our roster was clearly constructed based on the idea that the way above average value positions would be 1B and DH and that was largely the case last year (and we saw everything fall apart as Dunn and Konerko slumped down the stretch). This year, you see how bad the team is without its best players being its best players. Dunn has rallied back but playing 1B takes a nearly insurmountable chunk out of his value. The biggest problem with this team is that Paulie did not hit as well as planned AND nobody else hit a ton better as expected to make up for it. This team is probably a contender if PK is mashing and playing 1B. Sadly, it is hard to get a great 1B. Let's hope we figure something out. Someone in FutureSox said they see Andy Wilkins potentially being a 2-2.5 WAR player. Do you know how much better we would be if we had a 2-2.5 WAR player at first right now?? Last year's team had the same issue when PK stopped hitting in June. For a while, they got some spurts of hitting from Youk, Dunn, AJ that kept them in the race, but in the end the lineup wasn't good (or healthy) enough to make up for the lack of production from Konerko.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 02:00 PM) I have a suggestion. Open a thread where people can root for the No. 1 draft pick and cut their little creative jokes about getting the No. 1 pick. Do that and keep it out of all other threads and I PROMISE I will not mention Rios' name again this season. The No. 1 draft pick talk is embarrassing for those of us who don't give a s*** about that. greg, it's baseball not life or death. As fans, there is absolutely nothing we can do to change the outcome of this horrendous season. Instead of just complaining about Flowers, Rios, everyone else day after day, post after post, some people are trying to entertain themselves by joking about "earning" the first pick. The Sox are here to entertain fans, however way you choose to be entertained. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you lose 80, 90, or 100 games, you aren't making the playoffs.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) What was up with Chris today? And it'd be so great if the Astros can somehow get on a winning streak. August 26-28 is gonna be HUGE!!!!!!
  19. I am extremely happy that this losing streak vs. DET & CLE happened to coincide with KC's winning streak. They have been on fire and gained no ground.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) Just another RHP that Hahn better have a better prepared lineup to handle next year. A core lineup with 6 right-handed hitters has very little chance against Masterson. Dunn's 1-12 against him this year doesn't help.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) Quit saying all the evidence they have is the "word of a drug dealer." All the investigative reporting suggests they have an absolute preponderance of evidence. Sorry, MLB filed a civil lawsuit against a drug clinic and its founder to force him to talk and to release any of the clinic's records.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) It would be awesome if we got yet another key contributor via waivers Alex Rios Manny Ramirez Just keep adding to the list...
  23. Dude, you have your last semester of college in front of you. Go spend the night with a random while it's still so easy. Don't waste it worrying about a young chick who has no idea what she wants yet.
