  1. Ken Rosenthal moves to The Athletic. They have quite the stable of writers there, will be interesting to see if people are willing to pay to read their stories.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) Unless the upfront money is insane, it is never a bad thing to lock a young guy up in the NFL. You can always dump them if not. And it's not like this will prevent them from making any other moves salary-cap wise. Sure, ideally your left tackle is better than Leno, but there is still room to find one if he fails.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) I've honestly never heard of that company. So maybe its helping him reach a larger customer base. Of course I f***ing hate camping. Wasn't there a Camping World Bowl in NCAA football last season?
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) ESPN has a feather in its cap and it is definitely its college football coverage. Yeah, as bad as their programming is, they are very relevant because of all the college football games they broadcast. Same thing with the other main sports, their live games is what is saving them.
  5. I was searching Twitter to see what happened to Ammo at the end of the Presidio, and I stumbled upon his you caring fund raiser https://www.youcaring.com/ammo-909970
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) For some players, being a in a place they like is more important than extra millions. While true, that is much more common later in a player's career. For that one big FA contract, the millions are almost always the deciding factor.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Moreso for a first big contract, though there is always something to be said for being somewhere you love. I know I turned down a chance to interview for a lot more money because I loved the situation I was in at the company I am at now. The first big contract is usually the only big contract for these players. While I realize it's multi-generational wealth, they still will never find a similar job for the following 30+ years of their life, so they might as well maximize it. It's also a guaranteed contract. In your situation, you are happy now, but in a year there might be another offer somewhere that makes you happier and you can leave. These players can't, so that's why they getting the most money at once is a bigger deal.
  8. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) Bears actually seem to have a pretty good OL. Maybe their strongest unit. If Kyle Long gets on the field, I'm getting worried about when that will happen. John Fox talks about injuries like Belichick does.

  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 05:07 PM) I get sick of how bad our players are considered on this board. I thought it a fair question to assess some other guys and see if they suck, too. Can't believe that post caused this freak out. You give the rebuild a 2 out of 10 because the current team is so bad, yet you are sick of how bad the players are considered? Aren't you contradicting yourself there? If people had higher opinions of the players, they would be winning more games.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) Sad to see how much his offspeed stuff sucks compared to at Vandy. He's someone I comfortable labeling as a bust Stone says it's just too much adrenaline
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 05:39 PM) Ronald Reagan was a B movie star, not too far removed from reality tv credentials except for his time as California governor. Started his career on the radio in the Quad Cities, actually. Touche. But he did have 8 years as governor and modern reality TV is a whole different animal than acting back in his day
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) Yeah, but does anyone come close to what Trump is doing? All this stuff is on record. We can compare how often each President golfs and goes on vacation, at least in the modern era. Trump is blowing everyone out of the water and he's the only one I could recall going out of his way complaining about other Presidents. The secret service cannot keep up. When the heck has that ever happened in our lifetimes? Well it is the first time a reality show star has been elected POTUS.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) I think everyone thought Bush would be the high water mark, but Trump is going to eclipse that real quick. The difference is that you know Bush and Obama actually worked on vacation. Trump actually thinks the President gets days off and can check out like a factory worker.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) He used to tweet about how much Obama was costing taxpayers going to Hawaii. For a guy who would have no time for golf and was just going to sit in the White House making great deals, his detail sure does cost a lot of money. Anyone sick of winning yet? As did every Republican. Which was preceded by every Democrat complaining about how much time Bush spent in Texas. Has there ever been a president who didn't golf and go on vacation too much?
  16. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) The off season starts with Hahn trading Avi Garcia and Abreu for more prospects. This will be done in the name of a rebuild. I see it as more of a salary dump to get this team to have the lowest payroll in MLB. All this translates into more profits for JR. This leaves the team with the following lineup: 1B=Gillaspie, 2B=Moncada, SS=Anderson, 3B=Davidson, LF=L. Garcia, CF=Engle, RF=Delmonico, C=Smith. Starting Rotation Rodon, Shields, Lopez and Holland. (Hahn resigns Holland thinking that he'll have a rebound year) Bullpen= The same group who are in our present bullpen. After Rodon gets off to a good start Hahn will sign him to a contract extension. After the All Star break Hahn will then trade Rodon to the Cubs for more of their prospects. Nobody ever talks about this but Hahn is a life long Cubs fan. He never attended a White Sox game in his life until he started working for them. And finally for a job well done (Last place team with the lowest payroll=enormous profits) JR will reward Hahn with another contract extension, If Hahn is a closet Cubs fan who just wants them to win, why would he demand their top two prospects for Q? He should have asked for Justin Grimm and Tommy La Stella. Mind blown.
  17. QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 09:28 PM) With ReyLo hurt that probably means Holland stays as the starter for now. That sucks. How have we been so unlucky with horrible starters? Covey, Shields, Holland, Danks. Probably others. Those last 3 actually were considered aces at one point in their careers. Danks was unlucky. Shields was majorly trending downward and Holland was a injured reclamation project, no unluckiness there.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 07:02 PM) What about our rotation? If Rodon, Lopez and Kopech are ready, playing devil's advocate, why can't we build a real pitching staff around those guys and contend? The basis of this thread is we're supposed to hit next year. I will never understand why the rebuild requires us to win 65 games two years in a row minimum when a lot of these guys are "ready." Sign two veteran pitchers for 10 mill a year apiece like the Royals always do, get a few bullpen guys and uh, win?? Is it that hard to sniff .500 in this crap division? I know, it is. If this post angers you, please ignore it. Not meant to argue. I "get it." We're in a rebuild. We're supposed to lose. I'm just playing along with the first post that says we should hit next year. Well, 3 key pieces of the future are leading our rotation ... but they have to suck first before getting good? Modern baseball really fatigues me. If I'm running a team I never do not consider the possibility of winning. The 2009-2016 White Sox beg to differ.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 08:58 PM) Never? I meant never good in a Sox jersey. And he hadn't been great with the Padres. Obviously he he was pretty solid for a long time between Tampa and KC
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) Last 14 starts 62 innings 67 earned runs. Yeah he really really sucks now. But Shields has never been good and they gave up players for him. Holland was a wild card signing and he actually had some success for a while. Thats what I was comparing to.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) The scout that thought he would be a good fit for the Sox must have been same one who recommended Shields His ERA was 2.37 after 10 starts
