  1. Next thread idea: Are we allowed to get nervous about Mitch Trubisky, Jordan Howard, Leonard Floyd, Kevin White, and Kyle Long??? Super Bears Super Bowl!
  2. Andrew Miller activated from the DL today. Yes, Cleveland hasn't had their best reliever available the last two weeks. They must be struggling, right?
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20170914/ed...nder-jon-police I find this crazy. I recognize Edison Park would be an area of a lot of police officers. But to me the Burge era and the after-effects is one of the biggest influencing events in Chicago of the last 30 years. I'm glad they are teaching Chicago history though, that is pretty cool. I live next to Edison Park. I find nothing about this crazy.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 05:53 AM) Tony's awful? Camilla: Hold my drink... Hold my drink? The Camilinator finishes every last drop. Crazy. Not to take away blame, but damn does Johnny love to antagonize her. I know it's part of the game, but every time the monster comes out he just presses her buttons more and more, trying to get her to lose her s***. Disappointing the youngsters attempt at a coup got shut down so quickly, and the only one left is Nelson, who is the worst of the 3.
  5. My wife has a trip planned to North Miami in about 3 weeks. The area she is staying was just re opened to civilians and an the hotel currently has 30 minute wait time on the phone. Should be interesting to follow how ready it will be in early October
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) I think his only choice is something like an opt out after 3 years. He is taking a big chance financially, but if he can become a free agent after 3 seasons, and is any good, he may be one of the few who opt out that teams didn't regret re-signing. The opt out IMO is at least some sort of advantage for teams. Most big money guys, you give them a contract the last couple of years you want no part of. The opt out eliminates that, if the team can walk away. They get the worth it seasons, and in most cases are given a gift. See Belle, Albert, Rodriquez, Alex, Sabattiia, Captain Cheeseburger. This guy might be one of the exceptions. Is he allowed to do a 3 year opt out and skip the standard 6 year service time? I thought that wasn't allowed.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) Also lets keep in mind the reputation of "overload" on Japanese pitchers. Kenta Maeda came over and had "the worst medicals anyone has ever seen". I think it's fairly common to throw 200+ pitches multiple times in a week during that big national High school championship in Japan.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) Jerrell Freeman tore his pectoral muscle and is unlikely to return this season. Kwiatkowski, time to play Nice, I've been debating a Kwiatkowski jersey, guess I'll see how performs in the spotlight first.
  9. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) If they were healthy that series would have been over in five games instead of Theo being the best baseball mind since Abner Doubleday. When Carrasco and Salazar both got hurt in September, nobody realized at the time how important that would become in Chicago.
  10. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) Does anyone know or have a link of where one might find the current contract statuses of the Sox players? http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) I get that the idea of being a hundred millionaire seems incredible, but this guy is going to be really rich no matter which way he chooses. The top Japanese players make like 5mill a year. If he bombs spectacularly he'll be able to go back to Japan and live like a rich person for the rest of his life. On the other hand, he has this depreciating asset which he has no possibility of gaining later in life, unlike money. He only has 6-8 or so years in his athletic "prime". His dream is to prove he is the best. Wasting 25% of that time just so you can become unfathomably rich instead of incredibly rich? It's not that crazy. And if he lives up to the hype in MLB, he will become an even bigger legend in Japan. Which will lead to more and more money as well anyway.
  12. Think many of us may have jumped the gun in handing Chris the Cy Young award earlier, Kluber is definitely taking control.
  13. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) He's also stopped bunting so much. Thank god. 100% due to Soxtalk
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Except I want to say the Sox were still playing about .500 ball during that stretch. They got almost caught because Cleveland went nuts. The Dodgers are actually collapsing. The Dbacks just went nuts too, but LA had a nice 21 game cushion vs. the Sox 15, so they are still up 9 games.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) What year was it the A's won 20 in a row? I'm thinking 2002. I'm rooting for the Indians to break the record. That would, for me, be more impressive than the Heat's 27-game streak in '13. Mostly due to the randomness and unpredictability that is the game of baseball. The most impressive thing is that they aren't getting lucky in close games. They are dominating. +100 run differential, averaging a 7-2 victory every night.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 05:14 PM) I've sensed a lot of anti Abreu talk on the site. You haven't? People want him traded. People ignoring his 31/90 like it's nothing. I've given people a chance on my praise Jose posts. Silence. You haven't read the posts saying if we can get anything good get rid of Jose? I've said we need some hard core older White Sox when we get good again to go with the kids. Silence. Why would you block a die-hard Sox fan. Cause his opinion differs from yours? Sure I get mad when I feel like people are dissing Abreu and Davidson. I get frustrated. So I keep trying to sway opinion or at least get somebody to offer some praise, in this case Jose and/or Davidson. Now a guy like Saladino? In the past I praised him as well. People said he was utility at best. They were right. I was wrong. I admit it and shut up. Saladino is no good. I do agree. Absolutely not. There was one poster who extremely disliked him and he has changed his tune. Like I said earlier, when Jose had some struggles, I always thought Soxtalk gave him way too much of the benefit of the doubt, which I hadn't think he earned. That's because he has so many fans here. Let's be honest, this has nothing to do with Jose Abreu and everything to do with your personal vendetta against "sabes". That's why you mention his 31 HR and 90 RBI, because you want the "sabes" to say those stats mean nothing. Instead everyone keeps praising Jose, which the advanced hitting stats back up too.
  17. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 07:34 AM) Considering Google Maps bought Waze, they are both fairly similar. It's weird, if I have to walk somewhere or just look something up, I'm 100% using Google Maps. If I am driving somewhere, I'm using Waze. I've found that the alerts from other users on Waze (police, car on side of the road) are really accurate and helpful. I'm the same way. My biggest issue with Waze though is that it's too smart for it's own good at times. It will find "quicker" routes down side streets in the city, but expect you to cross a major three-lane road without a stoplight.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) The Dodgers are two innings away from losing 10 in a row. That's why baseball is unpredictable and great. Just lost #11 in a row. 9 inning Game ended about 30 minutes ago, about 4:12 AM Central
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) JJ Stankevitz‏Verified account @JJStankevitz 1h1 hour ago Jerrell Freeman has a self-reported concussion and has a pectoral muscle injury, per John Fox. Fox said that concussion may have played a part in the blown coverage on the big TE touchdown. I had noticed too that the Falcons had quickly gotten to the line of scrimmage and the Bears were scattered all over the place confused on that one.
  20. I've actually made posts critical of the board for giving Jose TOO much praise during his struggles. I guess me and greg have been posting on two different soxtalk.com message boards.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) He hasn't shown anything, that's for sure. It's a shame because he was explosive in college Gonna be 5 games played in 3 seasons if he doesn't come back. His brother is at WV too, coming off a major injury. In the end, Pace will be judged on Trubisky and nothing else will matter.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 04:28 PM) I'm at the bar watching football but they're saying this is category 2 now. So people won't even die right? People are stupid so there will be some deaths, but thankfully it seems to be a slight dud so far.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2017 -> 01:36 AM) If you guys think Jose Abreu isn't a good ballplayer, I can't help you. I'd love to see you do a study of all the players on last year's Cub team. And tell me who you identify as a great ballplayer advanced stat wise. Or this year's Dodgers. Who can survive the advanced stat scruity nowadays? two or three players in each league? I'll take Avi's season and Abreu's season anyday. s*** even Davidson's season. Give him another 100 at bats or more and you've really got some production. The Cubs had one of the greatest defensive team in history, every single one of their players probably passed the advanced stats test.
