Cue meltdown in 3...2...
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) I think he only comes out the bullpen if they're in a spot to actually compete for a playoff spot come July/August, I can't see him breaking camp with the team, Sox will still be mindful with his clock. Perhaps I took the quote the wrong way, but the way I understood was that they'd start Rodon in the bullpen first if he does make the ML team out of spring training, which seems like a waste of his service time. If they're going to do what you're saying, then I think that's fine.

Cue meltdown in 3...2...
I don't agree with this at all. It worked out for Sale, but ask the Rangers how it worked out for Feliz. Everyone's different, but if Rodon tears it up in Spring Training and we don't have a better option in the rotation, then he should absolutely be in the starting rotation on opening day.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
I think there are a few positives from yesterday's game that were very encouraging. Our run game looked awesome. A lot of misdirection pre-snap to keep the defense honest. Forte didn't get all the carries and Carey looked like a decent backup. One thing I absolutely hate about our offense is our lack of a short yardage bruiser. Forte's a finesse runner and not being able to convert third and short plays without throwing the ball is painful. We had the ball at the 1 yesterday and decided to throw instead of run. We get pushed back because of a false start and throw the ball 3 times. Instead of a easy TD, we get a FG. Speaking of RBs...Eddie Lacy...so bad. He has no burst. If the o-line doesn't give him a huge hole to run through, he's going to get stuck at the line almost every time. He might have had 2 good runs yesterday against a pretty piss poor run defense. Against a good passing defense, the Packers would have been screwed yesterday with their horrible running game.

Let's Grade the Players, Coaches, Hahn for 2014
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 11:55 PM) Here are my grades for this season. I'll give the team a C-minus though I wouldn't argue with D. Abreu: A-plus. He had 36 HRS, 107 RBI. Everybody likey. Beckham: D. He stunk and his tenure was blah. (Sanchez in 27 games hit .247; Semien hit .233 in 63 games; both get Incompletes). The eye test tells me Semien will be a good player. Alexei: A. He hit .273 with 74 RBI. Gillaspie: B. I wouldn't argue B-plus. He hit .282 with 57 RBI in 130 games. Viciedo: D. He hit 21 homers and only drove in 58, barely hitting .230. He's an underachiever to date. Eaton: A. We all know he was great. A. Garcia: B to B-minus. Hit .250 in 45 games. Showed a lot of guts to come back so quickly. Flowers: C. Hit .240 with 15 homers. 50 RBIs. Paulie: I'd like to give him an incomplete as a favor to my idol. If I have to give a grade I'd give him a D. Dunn: 20 home runs in 360 at bats. That's not so horrendous. I'll give him a C this year. For his Sox career a big fat D. Moises Sierra, Danks and guys like that didn't play a lot. Not a big fan of that duo. Quintana: B. 3.32 ERA is fine. Sale: A-plus. He's good. Danks: C. He was 11-11? Not bad for an 89-loss team. I realize we don't care about wins and losses of pitchers anymore. Noesi: C. 8-11 record. Carroll: C-. Was 5-10 I love everything about him except his stuff. I'll give all the relievers a D except Petricka and Putnam who get Cs. And Bella of course gets an F. I can't bring myself to mention each guy. Robin: He gets a C. The team was a couple games over .500 at a fairly late date then sucked. I wouldn't argue C-. Hahn: C. He improved the team some but the team is still lousy and not a contender. Jerry Reinsdorf: D. No sense of urgency from the big guy. That's it for now. I think we have some good players. At this time, I'm really down on our bullpen and down on Viciedo. Soxtalk posters: C. I wouldn't argue B-. Still a reluctance to start new threads with people thinking a new thread is evil for some reason. People love the catchall threads more than new threads. Not a lot of activity on the baseball board. Lot of lurkers need to start posting more. The new posters were awesome this season. Of my own posting I'd give myself a B-. I put passion into my posts even if many of you despise me. Cheers to the White Sox. I don't even... Quintana was easily the second best pitcher on our team and only had 0.1 fWAR less than Sale because he pitched the whole year and threw 200 innings. If Quintana didn't have the s*** luck he's had and won 15 games like he should have, you would have given him an A and I don't doubt that for a second. Alexei was great in the first two months of the year, but he was actually a pretty poor hitter in almost every other month. He was solid this year, but there's no way that he was a better player for us than Quintana this season.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 05:28 PM) Moto 360 users reporting that recent software update has more than doubled battery life, especially when in heavy use. One user had the backlight turned on for over 24 hours straight before battery died. With normal use, people are now reporting 48 hours The backlight doesn't even keep itself on all the time, though. Ambient mode on the 360 isn't the same as it is on the other Android Wear watches. I got through all of today and I think I still have 55% left. The battery life is now about the same as the other Android Wear watches.

How many times are we going to get screwed by the officiating in this game? I still don't understand how you call a TO and then run the ball when you have 54 seconds left on the clock. What did you call the timeout for if you were going to run the ball again?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) That is awesome. bad base running is such a huge part of softball, for better or worse. A lot of that play was just dumb base running. The guy on third didn't even tag. You always tag on a fly ball or line drive if you're on third. You're scoring if it drops and you're probably scoring if it's caught. There's no point in leaving the base, especially when it's bases loaded and nobody out. Still, what are the odds right?

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) Description please. We were up 9-6 to start the inning. Girl bloops one right in front of our RFer. Whatever, nothing hurt. Next guy hits a single. Guy after him hits a pretty routine flyner to our LFer, who misreads it and has it go over his head. So now we're kinda screwed. Tying run on second with nobody out. Then we pitch around the next guy since he hit a 3 run bomb on us in the first. That loads the bases (in this version of co-ed, if the guy hits in front of the girl and walks, he gets two bases and the girl gets to decide if she wants to hit or walk). So now we're f***ed. There's maybe a 1% chance we win this game. Next batter comes up and hits what seems like a single to our RFer. It hangs up and we get the first out. RFer throws to first to get the force since nobody tagged (terrible base running). Then our first baseman fires it to second to get the guy at second, who also didn't tag. Game over. We were all in disbelief. We could have gotten 4 outs on the play if we needed it. In a tournament where half of our team failed to hit period and where we didn't score more than 9 runs in any game, we got to the semi-finals and lost to the eventual winners (who beat the second place team by 21 runs in 3 innings). Had we played like we could have, we could have won it.

We turned a game-ending triple play yesterday in the quarter-finals of a tournament. They had bases lodaed, nobody out, and we were up by only 1. It's probably the most exciting play I've ever been apart of in slow pitch softball.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) and now enter the smartwatch... Speaking of that, I've had the Moto 360 for a week now and while it's not as good as I had anticipated, it's not as bad as some of the original reviews. Reviews said the battery was awful...it's not. I've never gone lower than 20% on it yet. You have to charge it every night, but it'll last at least 20 hours if you don't over-use the watch (i.e. play around on it for no apparent reason). Android Wear still needs work. There's still too many annoying bugs, like the watch disconnecting from your phone 4-5 times a day for no apparent reason. They also need to give you more options for quick replies so I don't have to speak into the watch to say something as simple as "see you later" (that's not a quick-reply option, I have no idea why). There's no speaker on it, so you don't get a voice for turn-by-turn and it doesn't do the vibrate once for left and twice for right like the Apple Watch does. It does, however, vibrate twice when you get close to a turn. Overall, it does what it's supposed to do, give you a glance at your notifications, tell you the time, let you set alarms/timers, and use Google here and there (I found out how old Ellen Page was in about 10 seconds yesterday). But in order for it to gain mass appeal, there needs to be a lot of refinement by Google and a lot more development by developers to take advantage of the form factor.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) Yet the rumors persist... Let me rephrase that... I doubt they will only make a new 6 inch Nexus. I think a lot of people would be put off by it, but then again the Nexus phones aren't really a consumer-first device. It's designed for developers. That thing is huge...just look at the spacing of the navigation buttons. They're usually pretty close together on the phone UI. That's more or less a tablet UI on a phone. I think there's a good possibility they make a 5.2 inch version based off the new Moto X and the 5.9 inch version that's shown up there. There was a picture of that phone next to an LG G3 on reddit yesterday and someone made a to-scale cut-out from that image. Apparently, it'll be similar in height to the iPhone 6 Plus, but slightly wider. I also doubt this thing will be cheap...say good bye to the sub $400 price tag. All phablets are expensive, especially ones with a 2K 6 inch screen.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) God f***ing damnit. The game started off so great with the leadoffs HRs from Markakis and De Aza. Then Jeter got that RBI double and it was the most amazing and classy double you will ever see in your life, and doubles will never be the same after this season. Then he has that error and everything was looking awesome and hilarious again. I was so excited to see him have a 3 error game and be awful. Then enter the 9th inning, Girardi decides not to pull Jeter on defense to get his 20-minute standing ovation. Robertson then blows the game, allows Jeter to bat again. First batter gets a hit, is bunted over to 2nd, and Jeter delivers a basehit to RF and the throw is terrible and the game ends on a walk off. f***ing makes me sick. I hope he plays in Boston and his career ends on a strikeout or a DP. I hate Derek Jeter so much. Good riddance. Damn dude. I don't like Jeter, but you straight up hate him. I think it's pretty cool he got a walk-off hit in his last home game. Is all the media going to be on his dick for the next week? Yes. Do I hate that? Yes. But at the end of the day you have to admit Jeter's been a great player over his career and that's probably one of the best ways you can end a career (at home at least).

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 25, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) I started him over Romo, which I'm fine with no matter how Tony does. Don't think I would've yanked Foles for him. I wasn't confident in Foles doing well against what I still think is a decent defense in SF minus the stupid penalties. Apparently I didn't realize the Giants have a good secondary when they get a pass rush, which they're getting today. Cousins looks rattled right now. He's not making the easy throws.
