  1. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 10:51 PM) I don't think anyone can deny this gives the Royals the best team they have had in a long time, and that's important to mention. If that gets them to .500, is that even close to being worth it? Your team isn't going very far when James Shields is by far your best starting pitcher.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 10:50 PM) One can only dream that this sets the market for Gavin pretty high. Dayton Moore's just stupid.
  3. QUOTE (YASNY @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) Lookin' like we'll go 4-14 against them next year. I'd rather face Shields and Davis as opposed to Bruce Chen.
  4. QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 10:31 PM) Rays also get Odorizzi, Montgomery, and Leonard. Rob Neyer tweeted it's the worst trade in baseball history. Over on a Royals board, some people are denouncing their fandom. ROFLMAO. Montgomery too? Do they understand that James Shields only has like one year left on his contract?
  5. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 10:22 PM) Insane KC overpay Tell me about it...
  6. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) BREAKING: Royals acquire James Shields and Wade Davis from TB for Wil Myers and other prospects. Wow. What a great trade for TB.
  7. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) Mark Reynolds to sign with Indians. Indians also going with young Lonnie Chisenhall at 3B per Heyman Youk to the Yankees huh?
  8. QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) Don't you think that's too harsh? Bourn has established himself as a 5-win player over the past four years. Pierre did not come close to that. This research shows that speedy guys (not speed itself, but speedy players) age well compared to other players. Even if you don't take that into account, and just knock off the standard half-win per year from the level Bourn has established during his prime, and that's 15 wins over the next four years (4.5+4+3.5+3). Still a productive starter. I'm not sure the years or money Bourn will eventually get, but maybe the contract won't be as bad as many seem to think. The problem with a guy like Bourn is that a good amount of his value comes from defense and defense alone. From what you posted up there, nothing specified defense and aging for speedsters (just the general trend). Once a speedster loses his great ability to cover the field on defense, his value drops dramatically. Some possible problems with the research you posted are that the players they deemed fast, such as Hanley, Crawford, and Reyes, are hitters who are more multi-dimensional, not to mention better overall hitters. Bourn is a singles hitter that gets on base at a slightly above average clip. Absolutely nothing special. So once he loses his ability to steal 60 bases a year and provide 15 runs worth of defense in center field, what is he? A 3 win player? If Bourn was 26 instead of 29, I'd have no problem with anybody looking to sign him to a 5 year $80 million contract. But he's 29 and his ability to give you 5 WAR seasons may not last too long. Michael Bourn is pretty much Juan Pierre when he was in his prime, just with more strike outs and a few more walks. Maybe with slightly more power, but not much more. We all saw how Juan Pierre aged, I don't want to go through that again.
  9. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) UGH...Sat Mike Wallace and Denario Alexander (43 points) in favor of Chris friggin Givens and no Thank. You. Hilton (8 points)... In my money league... way to over think things big guy. I also sat Alexander for Givens. I hate wide receivers. My team laid a total turd this week. One and out for me.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 02:00 AM) Absolutely, I do. Speed, defense, XBH, averages 5 WAR a season. 4 yrs/$50M, sign me up. He'll get more than that, though. He's 29. You might get 2 more good seasons out of him before he gets into Juan Pierre territory.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 01:25 AM) Hahn just needs to sign Michael Bourn, and trade De Aza + Floyd for a 3B already. I don't know what he's waiting for. Bourn is going to get Rios-like money. Do you really want to pay a guy who is extremely dependent on speed and is getting towards 30 Rios-like money? I don't.
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:05 PM) Oh yes he was. High strikeout, low average, low OBP, no power - you name it. Every offensive stat on that guy was below average. Nice guy from what they say, but his offense was every bit as pathetic as his defense. Teahen had a .316 wOBA when he played for the Sox in 2010. That was below average, but not awful.
  13. Illinois still overrated? lol
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:10 PM) Dreadful call. It would have been great if Leonard stayed. We really lack big bodies on the inside. Igwu is the only guy over 6'9.
  15. Illini are playing too conservatively. They're trying to dribble down the shot clock when there's still 5 minutes left. That won't win you games.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:01 PM) Mark Few, what are you doing? Does he not know the huge advantage he has? They have a huge size advantage on the inside yet they're doing almost everything they can not to take high percentage shots on the inside.
  17. That's a crap call on Henry.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) I just think Keppinger is not even as good as Teahen, that's all. Teahen wasn't an awful hitter. His defense was just pathetic.
  19. BP3 is killin' it on both sides of the court. He's so good at blocking from the side or back.
  20. Bertrand has been super impressive the past few games.
  21. Nice win for the Bulls. Bellinelli was great.
  22. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) looking like Grienke to the Dodgers that team could be the hottest of messes next year, should be fun to watch. Greinke and Kershaw. Now that's interesting. The Rangers must be looking for a real big splash in the trade market now. They can't come away empty handed. Maybe they'll just re-sign Hamilton now.
