2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) With no real competition for him, unless the Angels were there, why so much for so long for Beltre? Probably because Boras is his agent. Plus, he's really freaking good.

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) has anybody read up on the whole thing with the hackers compromising the PS3's security? I dont know much about it but from what ive heard soon people will be able to burn signed backups of PS3 games and use them on any PS3 system without the need for any mod chip at all. just plop the burned copy into anyones PS3 and play away. And apparently there is nothing Sony can do about it without having to change the entire hardware of the PS3. That sounds good to me, i love paying $5 for video games.. charging 65 bucks a game is almost as much a robbery as a mechanic charging a person with no vehicle know-how $600 to replace an alternator.. Edit: Found This http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalf...rity-in-tatters The funny thing is that Sony made the worst programming mistake ever. That security key is supposed to be impossible to solve since there's random numbers in it. But somehow, Sony didn't randomize the number, it's the same every time. Looks like somebody's getting fired. I will also jump on that hack when I get the chance. I hack almost every electronic device I have.

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) No, they were doing pretty terrible in TDM as well. That's why I checked their player card, wondering if it was a "little brother playing his older brother's account" thing. They just weren't very good despite playing the game for about 240 hours. I'd start getting really bored of the game if I'm not that good at it. They must have nothing better to do. And I meant they probably played a lot of Domination or Capture the Flag, where you can get a good amount of XP without getting kills and that's how they might have gotten to 6th prestige.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Has anyone else run into guys who are like 5th or 6th prestige, but are pretty bad at the game? I'm talking below-even W/L and K/D ratios, but they have like 10 days of playtime. I don't get how you play the game that much but still suck at it. In about a week I've almost worked my way through 1st prestige, and my K/D has been consistently over 1 for a while now. Closer to 1.4 or so over the last two weeks. that's what having the week off of work will do for you, I guess. They must have played a lot of non-death match games then.

QUOTE (T R U @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) haha the other day we got into a game against a full team of noobs and we were all going like 50-2 and for some reason they kept staying so we got to play games like that for about 4-5 games in a row.. I love to go on Combat Training, play it on recruit, and just go knife all the bots starring at you for three seconds before even pulling the trigger. I usually do that when I'm in a rut or I'm just really bored.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Is he though? I actually like Beltre a lot and obviously his defense is always elite but he's been the definition of a contract year player with the bat. His glove and his ability to stay healthy generate about 3.5 WAR to begin with. So if he's just good with the bat (like an .800+ OPS), he'll get pretty close to 5 WAR. That's only for the next couple of years though, Beltre's not getting any younger.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) The number there is $85 mil/5 years. If that winds up being the final number, then on an annual basis, Beltre is more expensive than Crain + Dunn. On a total contract basis, Beltre would make almost as much as Konerko and Dunn combined. Beltre's probably at least a 5 WAR player if he plays in Texas and stays healthy. I'd say the contract is worth it.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 04:11 AM) dont listen to T R U.. he just wants more "Christmas n00bs" to join the black ops community so he can feast on your souls and inflate his stats even more. I loved it when I'm in a map with noobs when the game just released. Easy kills. Unless they're on your team.

Is 2011 make or break for Ozzie?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 01:30 AM) I can't believe the intelligent people on here think we are a lock to win anything and if we don't Ozzie should be canned. First of all it was a miracle winning as many games as the Sox did last year. Secondly, I could easily see this team sucking. Just because Dunn has been added and Crain? That doesn't mean s*** except we are returning to the days we had another major league hitter (Dye before the second half collapse in his final season here; Thome before he was let loose n signed by the Twins) in the lineup instead of the abysmal Kotsay and mediocre Jones duo. We have no proven closer. Our starting pitchers were good at times last year, horses*** at times. Peavy is a major question mark. Our third base and second base are question marks (as much as I love Gordon's potential). Paulie could easily drop in production after that great great season of his. We still have a powderpuff hitter in left who arguably is not a good leadoff hitter and has no arm. Rios is no superstar. In fact, despite his nice season, he still has much to prove. After bouncing back last year, does he feel he has anything to prove? Will he regress? AJ had an average season last year. Some might say until the last six weeks or so he sucked. He's not getting any younger. And this team has shown no ability to beat Minnesota and even dominate the lowly teams in the division. Just because we added Dunn and Crain we are locks to win the division? We are locks to dominate KC, Cleveland and Detroit when we haven't dominated them the past two seasons at all, just because of Crain and Dunn? I dunno about that. This team isn't a lock to win s*** and if it doesn't it isn't necessarily Ozzie's fault. That said, if I were Ozzie and thought I had enough money in the bank/investments, I would ask for an extension now in an ultimatum ploy. If he doesn't get one, he should resign. He can be a bench coach next year somewhere in the NL, then get a managing job again, likely in Florida. He's a fool to go into the year with a one-year deal; a fool. Managers with a WS title under their belt have more leverage than one year deals. As much as people think the White Sox should win it all every year, the reality is the city of Chicago has one WS title in the last 10,000 years. That title was with Ozzie at the helm. Ozzie's contractual situation will be a major distraction all season. How can it not be? Ozzie doesn't stifle on matters like this. With Ozzie's mouth, the reporters will be able to bait him so easily. If the Sox are winning early, they'll be asking him about the extension and doesn't he deserve one NOW; if the Sox are losing, they'll be asking about him about likely not getting an extension. He'll say his old s*** of, 'If they don't like Ozzie, fire him now!' It will be a HUGE mess with him unsigned past next year. Should be crazy to watch it all explode. p.s. After reading Rogers' article, it's pretty obvious Ozzie will be Florida's manager after next season. This isn't going to work with him on a one-year deal. No way. Not with his ego. There will be sooo many fireworks. Might as well get it over now. Thank you Ozzie's agent. There's question marks on every team, some just have less than others. The White Sox are one of those teams with less question marks than most of the teams within our division. Detroit is thinking about starting Phil Coke. Minnesota barely has a bullpen left. If you spend $120 million this off-season and end up losing to the Twins again or underperform (anything less than 88 wins IMO), there's no reason Ozzie should stay unless the team has a bunch of injuries and things were completely out of his control. Ozzie has absolutely no right to continually ask for a contract extension throughout the season. He has to earn it. He was the one who helped screwed up the entire DH situation last year and I'm willing to bet Kenny's fuse with him is very, very short. If he complains about a contract extension throughout the season and the team underachieves, he doesn't even have to resign, he'll be fired first.

Bulls success = White Sox payroll?
The Bulls' financial success since the Jordan era might be a reason why we're getting so much money this off-season. After all, Jerry is the majority owner of both teams and he can do whatever he wants with the money he makes.
