QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) The State Farm guy was a gay latino masseuse on an episode of House. I remember that episode. Twas weird.
  2. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) I might have agreed with you 5 years ago, but reliable 40 HR guys don't grow on trees anymore. Offense is taking a dip like crazy right now. League average wOBA dropped all the way down from .328 to .321 last year. OPS dropped even more. It could be that last year was an outlier, but the fact of the matter is that offense is declining sharply in baseball.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) Tigers sign Brad Penny, reportedly $3mil base, with $3mil incentives. Not a bad guy to have as your #4/5 starter. That's a really good deal for them. Although Penny's shown before that he's nothing special in the AL.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 11:36 PM) They're going to give up a ton too. The key is C.J. Wilson. If he can come anywhere close to his 2010 season, that staff should be okay. Colby Lewis was not a fluke last year, that guy can pitch. Tommy Hunter is a serviceable guy. With the possibility of Feliz becoming a starter and the slight possibility that Webb might be healthy and effective, you have yourself a formidable staff. There's also Scott Feldman and Derek Holland who can end up being possible 5th starters. I think their pitching will be okay. Not as good as last year, but enough to keep them the favorites for the AL West. I really do like what the A's have done in the off-season though.
  5. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) This team really needs a SG though, I dont care if it costs us Taj and the Charlotte pick....bring in Mayo and this team can compete with anyone once Noah comes back. This team can be a championship contender with any kind of above average scoring SG. Any kind. Especially a guy like Mayo though, somebody we can hang onto for a while.

According to the Sun Times Joaquin Benoit = Matt Garza. In other news, Mike Tomlin will replace Omar Epps on House during bye weeks and the off-season.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) That was just sick. I don't remember where the conversation was about Rose losing vertical, but I can safely say that it is BS. Stacey King keeps saying 40 inches.
  8. QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) TS% of 58.6% He's getting to the line a lot I assume.
  9. Fun fact: Rose has already eclipsed his rookie Win Share total this season in only 36 games. He's not too far away from last year's totals.
  10. This is the Derrick Rose Show. Celtics about to lose again.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 08:48 PM) I think that if you get a good major league player at any position it is a good (not wasted) pick. I wnet back and looked at all of the 10-15 picks in the MLB drafts from 1997-2004. I didn't go anumore recent because the players still have a chance to develop. Here are the picks: 1997 Jon Garland Chris Enochs Aaron Akin Kyle peterson Brandon Larson Jason Dellaero Garland was the only good MLB player 1998 Carlos Pena Josh McKinley Adam Everett JM Gold Jeff Weaver Clint Johnson Pena,Everett,Weaver the only good MLB 1999 Ben Sheets Ryan Christianson Brett Myers Mike Paradis Ty Howington Jason Stumm Sheets, Myers 2000 Joe Torres Dave Krynzel Joe Borchard Shaun Boyd Beau Hale Chase Utley Utley 2001 Chris Burke Kenny Baugh Mike Jones Casey Kotchman Jake Gautreau Gabe Gross Burke, maybe Kotchman and Gross 2002 Drew Myers Jeremy Hermedia Joe Saunders Khalil Greene Russ Adams Scott Kazmir Good draft all bit Myers 2003 Ian Stewart Micheal aubrey Lastings Milledge Aaron Hill Ryan Wagner Brian Anderson Stewart, Hill, Wagner 2004 Thomas diamond Neil Walker Jered Weaver Bill Bray Billy Butler Stephen Drew Walker,Weaver, mayber Butler and Drew It looks to me like from picks 10-15 teams are lucky to get good contributing players. I'll take Sale being good whther it's in the pen or starting. If he's good it will not be a wasted pick. Butler and Drew are only maybes? 3E8 said something similar. The draft is a crapshoot.
  12. Derrick Rose is just ridiculous.
  13. Bulls are finally playing with some energy.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) I'm pretty sure that percentage is his 3 point shooting. Terrible half for the Bulls. Taj must have suffered another concussion, cause he kept losing his man on defense. You're right...Damn. His overall FG% is only 46% though.
  15. QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) I haven't posted in here in awhile, so I'll give it an update: 21.2 15.7 43.7% Absolutely absurd numbers. The 43.7% kind of sucks for a big man like him, although he does shoot some 3s.
  16. It blows my mind how the Bulls can play down to the level of a team like the Pistons.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) Then boot him to the 'pen as soon as Peavy comes back? I don't like that notion all that much. And I know this would be a nice problem to have, but what if he does fairly well as a starter initially? Doesn't really send a good message to send the kid to the 'pen, IMO. 6 man rotation. I don't think it'll hurt, especially since Peavy's a question mark at this point and Gavin usually ends up hurting himself come September. I think you have him start as the 5th guy in the rotation and then assess the situation when Peavy comes back. If the bullpen is doing well and the rotation is doing well, then do whatever you want with Sale. But if one of the areas needs help, you're gonna have to use him somewhere on the team. Because I think almost everybody in the organization is looking at this year, they probably have the future of Sale in the back of their minds, but it's not a first priority. The team winning this year is the first priority. If Sale was the team's first priority, he wouldn't have been brought up to pitch in the bullpen last season.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 06:03 PM) I want him to start in AAA. As a fan I'm not looking at just 2011. I want a cheap/productive Sale for the next 6 years. Those saying that the only thing that matters is 2011 are probably the same people that said they would never complain about a thing ever again in baseball life after we won the WS. And I think we all know by now that was a damn lie. If you're gonna start him off in the 'pen, keep him there. At least for this year. I do not want to see him dicked around all year. And they'll probably end up playing the Brandon McCarthy card anyway even if we did need an emergency starter. What's wrong with Sale starting the season as the 5th starter? I don't really care what Sale does this year, as long as he's on the team. The team needs him in 2011, they don't have the luxury to have him dominate AAA for a month or two.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) Yeah, and Kinsler. He's turning into Nick Johnson. They have the depth to make up for possible injuries. Young could slot in for Kinsler. David Murphy can play a corner OF spot.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) The Rangers are going to score them some runs. The possibility of a Young/Thome DH platoon looks real good to me.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Are you sure? The Rangers already declined an option on him that would have been a small raise. Probably because they wanted to sign Beltre. I'm also confident Thome won't make more than what Vlad made last year.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) 2 extremely good seasons? 2009, I would say was easily his best season as a reliever. Extremely good? Ehh, I'll accept that. His 2007 would be his 2nd best season, and I really don't think it was all that memorable. I would say it was a good year, but nothing I would consider "extremely good". 4.35 BB/9, 1.91 K/BB. His opponent AVG was really good, his WHIP was pretty good, and his k/9 was pretty good, but overall I would say it was nothing more than just a good year. His 2006 was pretty much average, and his 2008 was certainly below average. He put up a 2.8 WAR over 4 seasons in the bullpen. That's essentially 0.7 WAR per season. Bobby Jenks put up a WAR of double that last season, and a lot of people couldn't stand him. Again, I think CJ was a pretty decent reliever over his career, but him moving to the rotation did not create a big hole in their pen, even though he was coming off his best season in relief. Wilson was a 2 WAR reliever the year before the Rangers put him into the rotation. They did that because they could. They had the arms in the pen and their rotation was lacking a left handed starter.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) You know...Vlad is a fit for the Twinkies too. I don't think they have the money after the Pavano signing. Vlad isn't getting less than what he got last year.
  24. Reds picked up Fred Lewis today for 900K. I would have liked to see him as a 4th OFer on the Sox.
  25. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) So could you say he took his talents to south beach? As did Brent Morel, Dayan Viciedo, and all of camp Cora. God save us all.
