  1. Wakamatsu is a bad on-field bad manager, but I always thought he was a nice guy.
  2. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 02:01 AM) Besides Greinke's Cy Young year, he's been average at best, including this season. I'd pass on him "Pretty good" would be the best term to describe his performances in 08 and 10. He's far better than average. Wanna know who's average? Freddy Garcia.
  3. Mark Buehrle just pitches so well on July 23rd... That was vintage Mark yesterday. Good control, good location, pitched to contact to keep his pitch count in check.
  4. It seems that everybody on the A's has a deceptive ERA.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 01:17 AM) Jenks "Irritated" that People are Upset Over His Closing! http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws The problem is that Jenks doesn't think he has a problem! "I've been the closer for this team, this is my sixth year closing," Jenks said before Friday night's game against the Oakland A's. "I shouldn't have to go out there and prove myself over and over again. I think I've done that, and it looks like I'm going to have to do it again." Jenks said he's taking Guillen's decision as a challenge, albeit irritating. "It's both," Jenks said. "I don't want to really overstep my boundaries as far as manager-player goes. Even Mariano [Rivera] had a couple bad games in a row. In my case, I just go out there and when I get the ball, I go out there and do my job. That's all I can do." Sounds like the words of an alcoholic. He's in denial.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) Most sane people like us would DH him but we know Ozzie will primarily use him as an outfielder. Given that fact I don't know if we'll ever see his true potential as a hitter, making him expendable in my eyes. Insane people would say that Q would go insane if he DH'd, making him more prone to injury. They should know.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) I've never heard of the other two guys. But unless they plan on making Joba a starter, that seems like a terrible deal for Arizona. With that bullpen of theirs, who knows? In the longterm, they should make him a starter to get he most value out of him.
  8. Although I do think that Rowand's talent has been underestimated by some of the posters here. In his prime, Rowand was every bit as good as Torii Hunter was when he was in his prime. Rowand was easily one of the top center fielders in the game when he played here.
  9. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) Well. I didn't think the O's would take any from Minny. That's a nice bonus. Maybe they can even earn a split now.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) At this point I would trade Q for Dunn straight up if we could sign Dunn for an extension. I'm getting tired of all these damn injuries. He gets hit a lot, s*** happens. Add in the fact that he can't play the outfield too well and you have yourself an injury-prone player. If you DH him, there's a much better chance of him staying intact.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:15 PM) You could argue who was a better CF in 2005 (I think that's all chw42 is doing). Nobody would question who's the better CF overall. That's obviously Rios. I'm talking about production. Rowand, production-wise, had a better year in 05 than what Rios has done this year. But from a talent and skill standpoint, I'd say Rios edges Rowand.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) Scott's really hot right now. They already have Wieters, you can push them to take Flowers but it's back to the same thing, giving up Viciedo for Luke Scott. Pretty obviously, it won't be Danks. And if you're the Orioles, you're probably not going to take a package of players like Morel and Short (just throwing out names) over someone much closert to big league readiness. There's no way we trade any of our top 5 for Scott, that's why I think he's a good fit. Cheap(er), versatile, and can hopefully keep Quentin healthy.
  13. Joba would be intriguing for the D-Backs.
  14. Luke Scott puts the Orioles on top 3-2. I want this guy on our team.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) There's no defending a lot of lineups decisions Ozzie has made this year. It's like he's taken a golden shower on every piece of research about rational lineup construction ever published. Why the hell does he put back to back left handers 6 and 7? WHY? This is the same guy who batted Mark Kotsay 5th to break the lineup up but won't do it in the 6 and 7 spots. Oh by the way, it's pretty safe to say that A.J. and Kotsay are the worst hitters in the lineup right now outside of Pierre.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 05:51 PM) I understand that, but at the same time you are saying that Luke Scott couldnt be any worse in right than Quentin, and the guy hasnt played there but 37 games since 08 according to Kalapse. We just dont know if he couldnt be any worse, It's just really hard to be worse than Quentin right now. And it's not like Scott has been kept out of the outfield because he's bad. Markakis plays right field and the Orioles have had better options to play left.
  17. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Rios makes alot of balls that look like any other person in the outfield would be hard to get to just flat out easy....he has amazing range.....i agree his D is alot better than the 05' Rowand Rowand had a range rating of +15 in 2005, 4th among all outfielders. Rios has a 3.7 range rating this year.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Good point. All you heard was get Quentin back to his "natural" position of RF and he would shine. Major disappointment. The thing with Quentin is that he used to be good in RF when he could still run. After his foot injuries, he's been absolutely dreadful.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Am I going to get tarred and feathered if I don't like Alex Gordon that much? Sure, his splits are great - .315/.442/.577/1.019 - but he's striking out 22.4% of the time and, thus, that .315 average is inflated by a .389 BABIP. He obviously needs a chance to play, but I think he looks a hell of a lot more like Dallas McPherson than Ryan Zimmerman. Gordon was a decent major leaguer in 07 and 08 (he produced 4.4 WAR in this time). McPhereson did nothing even close to what Gordon did in those two years. He hit fairly well at a premium position and played acceptable defense there. Sure, he has more potential than that, but at least his production was acceptable.
  20. They did the best they could, I would say. I'm perfectly fine with all the signings.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) DeJesus is out for the season...OUCH! Ouch indeed.
  22. Oswalt - Cardinals Haren - Phillies Lilly - Twins Scott - White Sox Bautista - Tigers Francouer - Royals - LOL
  23. Somebody should make a list to follow on Twitter with all the MLB writers. It'll be like the LeBron Watch Twitter.
  24. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) JeffPassan Royals listen on everyone because it would be silly not to. How blown away would they need to be to trade Greinke? "Atomic," source said. 5 minutes ago via web This is funny considering Moore almost traded Greinke away to the Braves for Francouer in the off-season of 2009. Had Burnett made up his mind quicker, Greinke might be pitching for the Braves right now and the Royals would be stuck with a replacement level player.
  25. ^Good. Kotsay in the 5 hole made this offense so anemic.
