  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) Not that I disagree with anything you said, but do you think the voters even know what WAR and wOBA is, let alone use that as a basis, for whether they vote somebody in or not? Sabermetrics have come a LONG way in the last 10 years, but they're not quite yet that mainstream. And they may never affect hall of fame voting since most of the voters are really old school. But Dawson getting in isn't the worst thing to happen, that's all I was trying to say.
  2. Let's hope we can be 4 games up on the Tigers by the end of the day. That, along with their injuries and tough schedule should make this a two team race pretty soon.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) That sure didnt look like it was going to be a homer... Musta been the wind.
  4. Lyle Overbay! 5-3 Jays.
  5. Downs gets out of a huge jam by striking out Sizemore and Larish. Tigers and Jays tied at 3.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) It's worth noting that the pitchers have given him a lot more help this year too. Gavin's gotten a lot better at moving to the plate, D1 and MB have solid moves to 1b, etc. And he's NOT catching Freddy.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) Use Firefox. Download "Adblock". Right click on his signature. Select "Adblock image". Thanks. I already had Adblock, it finally becomes useful.
  8. Kim Jung Il is a Bulls fan. http://www.deseretnews.com/blog/73/1000956...ear-Threat.html
  9. A.J. has a +2 in Plus/Minus Stolen Base Runs, good for 5th in MLB and first in the American League. Not bad at all.
  10. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Pierre LF Ramirez SS Rios CF Konerko 1B Quentin DH Pierzynski C Viciedo 3B Jones RF Beckham 2B Hudson P And I also like this lineup.
  11. Toronto up 2-0.
  12. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) Twins starting lineup today does not have Span, Hudson, Mauer, and Morneau. Obviously Morneau hasn't been playing but missing those 4 players in your lineup today to start the game is big. Please get a win Baltimore! Wow and I thought Ozzie's Sunday lineups looked bad.
  13. We've seen Braden once before. In that game, he went 7 innings, giving up 3 runs, 7 hits, a walk, a home run, and 4 Ks. Vs. Current Sox Splits
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) I'm certain Viciedo is involved in any Sox trade talk right now. They have to keep his value as high as possible. If he goes 0-10 with 6 K's, Kenny's plan, whatever it is goes out the window. You really think 10 at bats is going to change a team's mind about a prospect?
  15. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) I know it was discussed when the voting results were announced, but I just wanted to take one last chance to say that it's a joke that Andre Dawson is going into the Hall of Fame. Dawson wasn't a great offensive player. His career wOBA is .352. If .352 gets you into the hall of fame, then there should be a lot of people in the Hall. The thing with him is that he was a great fielder. He has a career total zone of +69. That makes his career WAR at 62, which is almost hall worthy if you ask me. To me, the hall of fame cut-off is 75 WAR. Because if you put up an average of 5 WAR for 15 seasons, you are one of the best the game has seen and you deserve to be in the hall.
  16. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Plus you're taking him out of Coors. Yeah, that too. Plus, he's really dropped off this year.
  17. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) The choice...Luke Scott or Jack Cust? Luke Scott and it's not even close. Brad Hawpe's name is also getting thrown out there now. The problem here is that Hawpe is a DH and a DH only. He's no better than Quentin out in RF.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) Well, with Minnesota seemingly jumping up as the favorite to challenge the Sox with Ordonez and Inge down, it seemingly will come down to pitching (as always): Garcia/Hudson versus whatever they can get from Duensing, Slowey, Blackburn and Baker. For the moment, you don't see them trading for Oswalt (although I wouldn't be shocked, either) or Haren, I think they're pretty confident about Duensing after 2009 down the stretch. For whatever reason, they've gotten through to Pavano. From one of biggest jokes and worst contracts in baseball to probably their co-#1 starter along with Liriano. As much as their fanbase has been on SLOW-BAKE-BURN this season (along with Rick Anderson and GM Smith for their contracts), Pavano and Liriano have certainly been somewhat unexpected success stories which have somewhat mitigated the drop off from Kubel, Cuddyer, Morneau and Mauer. Of course, having Nathan go down early didn't help matters either, they still have some shakiness in their middle relief corps. One of those guys don't belong in that sentence. If he didn't get hurt, he'd easily be the MVP favorite right now.
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) The Tigers will spend as long as attendance holds up and Ilitch has his finances in order. They are 14th in the league in attendance avg just over 30k a game. The problem with them is, they are too willing to give out big contracts to bad/mediocre players (Robertson, Willis, Bonderman, Inge) and over pay on many of those contracts and other ones, such as Pudge a few yrs back, Ordonez, Guillen. Dombrowski is a decent GM, but way to liberal in terms of contracts. In other words, he's bad. He's the Jim Hendry of the American League.
  20. QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) nay, I will never be a fan of anything New York.. and like I already said, im a casual basketball fan at best.. so the two teams I like are both in Florida, at least its not just random picking as I like most of the sports teams in Florida.. Is there a way I can block your horrendous signature?
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) I've heard Chris Narveson. Bleah. Narveson's not as bad as his ERA makes him out to be. Out of everyone that the Brewers might offer us back in a Fielder trade, I'd take Parra or Narveson.
  22. Maybe this means the Tigers will look for a bat instead of an arm.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) The lineup should be very interesting considering the consensus is the Sox look "tired" today. I still don't understand why Pierre and Omar have to play every single day. Would you guys want Jose Guillen for a rental the rest of the year? I'm sure the Royals, however, would try to rob us for said rental. I don't want him, but he's another bat the Royals are dying to get rid of since he's a headcase. As like an almost to last resort kind of thing, okay. But there's lots of other guys you'd like to have besides Guillen. He can't field, he can't run, and he's a horrible clubhouse guy.
  24. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) I have seen you say this multiple times now. S*** was just not thrown at the wall... and then let it stick there. I suggest you look up exactly why the number is, what the number is, otherwise you will not grasp it and always be in doubt. I think I saw the reason why it's 10 runs once, but I forgot now. Has something to do with the average amount of runs scored in a game.
  25. That's gotta be the worst strike call ever.
