NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 08:42 AM) I still think Shaq is a very bad fit for the Bulls roster. Griffey was a horrible fit for the Sox back in 08 and a lot of people were still okay with it. I want to see Shaq in a Bulls jersey for the hell of it TBH with you.

Really like the Watson deal. He's a solid backup who will put up nearly average PER numbers. Get one more big and the team is set.

Does Kenny dare to consider making this trade?
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) People need to understand the trade was great, the extension was a bit rushed and looking bad now. Can this change? Yes, I still think Mark can produce. He has the ability to be more than mediocre. But until then, he's very mediocre. If he was mediocre on offense and mediocre on defense at 3B, he'd be a pretty valuable player. But he can't defend for s***, so yeah...

2010 AL Central Catch-All
If the Tigers don't make some moves, they're as good as done with the schedule they have for the next 28 days. They have 14 road games against the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, and the Sox. Talk about the possibility of getting your ass whopped. They're also 16-29 on the road, so...good chance they're done by mid-August.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 09:28 AM) He re-injured it while sliding into 3rd on sunday. So he's still day to day?

Beckham Back to the 2 Hole?
You have to start moving Beckham up in the lineup. You're wasting his bat in the 9th spot.

Does Kenny dare to consider making this trade?
QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) Obviously Teahen isn't the number one option out there, but he can probably be had for a couple mid level prospects. Aramis Ramirez is still owed a lot of money and has two years left on his deal. I don't think the Tigers will want to give up good prospects and be obligated to pay Ramirez what he's do the rest of this year and next. I think they said on the radio he's set to make $14M next season, where Teahen is going to make $5M. The pricetag on Ramirez should make him cheaper, if anything. The Cubs are looking to dump salary, they're not going to ask for too much I imagine.

The Tigers would rather go after Aramis Ramirez or someone of that sort, not Mark Teahen.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
So is Quentin's wrist still bothering him? It appears Hudson had a good game (I'm looking at his pitch f/x charts), he threw his fastball, slider, and change for strikes nearly 65% of the time and got a good whiff rate on his change and slider. Good to see him bounce back, even if the Mariners can't hit.

Beckham Back to the 2 Hole?
QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) You know a guy by the name of Joe Crede batted 8th for us & gave our line-up a lot of clutch hits. I'm still torn, not sure if Becks should stay in the 9th hole. Joe Crede hit 8th because he was a very mediocre hitter who didn't get on base enough and would hit the occasional home run mixed in with a bunch of infield pop ups. Yes, he thrived under high leverage situations, but there was a good reason why he hit 8th. Gordon Beckham is not the same hitter as Joe Crede and I'm glad he's not.

It's pretty clear at this point...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) Those guys all signed with the Rays though, so they didn't have to give up any players to get them. What chw42 is saying is that the Royals will give up players to bring these terrible players into the fold, and that really is a shame. Their bullpen would look a hell of a lot better with Leo Nunez in it, I can guarantee that much. Leo Nunez and Ramon Ramirez are good pitchers and he traded them away for Mike Jacobs and Coco Crisp. Jacobs was about to be non-tendered by the Marlins and he actually gave up talent for him...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) I can give a pretty entertaining list of some of the signings by the Rays from the early part of the decade as well. John Rocker, Tino Martinez, Fred McGriff, Greg Vaughn, it was a nice place to go to end your career on a 50 win team. Those are the guys under their current front office with Dayton Moore. I think the Rays underwent a change of philosophical direction in 06 or 07. It took a couple of years for them to surprise everyone, but Dayton Moore's been on the job for 3 years and they're still pretty much the same team they were when he took over.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) I'm still unsure why everyone wants him released. A lot of people don't want him released, they just don't want him DHing on what's already a bad offense.

THE CLUB - 2010
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Can't but help think how perfect that episode would have been if Santos could have performed a miracle and won us that game 6-5. My wife knows very little about the front office shenanigans, but she did say after it was over "Ozzie is really full of himself". That 05 World Series really built him up.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) I'm not sure an easy way to do this, but can someone find me Kotsay's slash numbers since June 6? I don't know how to look that up, but in the past 28 days, he has a .772 OPS, which ain't bad.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) You know, I bet the Yanks and the Red Sox thought the same thing about the Rays before 2008 and look what happened. For all we know, the Royals could wack Dayton Moore and hire some hot new GM (like Rick Hahn) to work with that deep farm system, and BAM! We'd have a team similar to the Rays right in the AL Central. That scares the hell out of me. Except you're looking at two COMPLETELY different organizations here. The Royals are bad because they spend their money on crap and think that a sabermetric is used to measure the length of a sword-like weapon. There's a whole blog dedicated to ripping on Dayton Moore and it's f***ing hilarious. This is a team that went out of their way to get Yuniesky Betancourt, Mike Jacobs, Jason Kendall, Willie Bloomquist, and just about every other piece of crap player imaginable. You didn't see that in Tampa. Outside of Billy Butler, what other great hitting prospects have you seen in KC that you think would have a good future there? They may have some nice prospects coming down the line, but until the Royals get a GM and a front office that is capable of realizing there is a whole world of great tools to evaluate talent out there for free, they're going to be stuck in the mode they are right now and that's suckitude.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) You know, they were within 7 games of .500 until a recent skid and have one of the best offenses in baseball this year by some measures. And there is some pitching talent there. I wouldn't be so quick to write them off for 2011 already, especially if they can make a few shrewd deadline trades this year. They aren't contending this year, but next year is another story. They have some serious talent that should hit the majors by next year. Batting average and that's about it.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Is it just me or did this scare the hell out of anyone else?? It's the Royals, no. With Dayton Moore at the helm, he'll find ways to f*** s*** up.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) When dealing with a depleted staff that includes a rookie and a really old guy, it can't hurt to shorten the games by having a blockbuster pen. So you then solve your problems by replacing the rookie or the really old guy with a better pitcher...

Beckham Back to the 2 Hole?
If he keeps on hitting well in Seattle, I think it will be time to move him back in the 2 spot. The fact that Juan Pierre couldn't drive in a run to put us up 7-3 in yesterday's game might have cost us. We gotta do something about the top of the order.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) True. He's having a year so above and beyond his norm that I forgot about him. I guess I was looking from this point on into 2011. He still has Brian McCann and Geovany Soto to battle with for that title. McCann's probably my favorite catcher in all of baseball. Even in a down year, he has a .360 something wOBA.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) I would say that's entirely a product of playing in Coors. Home - .400/.421/.689/1.110 Away - .210/.313/.360/.673 Of course it is, but that doesn't mean we should ignore it.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Is he the best catcher in the NL, at least offensively? If not yet he very well could be by next year. And how about Carlos Santana? He could be the best catcher in the AL very soon. .274/.432/.988 with an OPS+ of 172 in 139 PAs. His 1.50 BB/K rate is uncanny for such a young hitter. I've said it all year, I've never seen an infusion of talent as deep as what we've seen in '10 hit the game practically all at once in my time as a baseball fan. Miguel Olivo's .391 wOBA in way more PAs says hi.
