Garza throws no hitter
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) I know I'd love to have him in the outfield for the Sox. Right now, sure. But before this year, I wouldn't have even bothered.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) There's always Josh Willingham though I'm sure the price for him is higher than even that of Dunn. It should be higher than Dunn's. Willingham can play defense and hit almost as well.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) If the DBacks throw in Adam LaRoche, do you bite if you're the Sox? Also, give reasons please There really shouldn't be reasons given for a trade proposal like that. Gordon Beckham is worth more than two of those guys combined.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Would you guys do this trade (and do you think the DBacks would bite?) Gordon Beckham + Daniel Hudson for Edwin Jackson + Kelly Johnson? You keep your Vizquel/Viciedo/Teahen TriPlatoon at 3B for the rest of the year, or until the playoffs, you get a left-handed hitter with a decent OBP & Pop playing where Beckham was, and you have a rotation going into the playoffs that's pretty solid, and your 2011 rotation would be pretty ridiculous, and you have Johnson locked up for 2011 as well Edit: This also allows you to keep the DH spot a swinging door between Quentin/Konerko/Viciedo or whatever versatility Ozzie wants Ew, no.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) And I ain't trading Strasburg for anybody not named Jayson Heyward either. It's good to know that you are smarter than Steve Phillips.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) I'd be astonished if he gets stuck with that level deal again this offseason. The thing with Dunn is that since he's nothing but a DH, that's all he should be worth.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
I don't want Dunn for 4 years and $60 million. No way. 2 years at $24 million? Maybe.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) Well I'm not a mechanics expert. Some people think Strasburg has bad mechanics. I just can't, in my mind anyway, justify trading somebody because of mechanics. Unless you really think you're getting a good package back. And Jackson/Kennedy was just not that. But I agree. That deal was nowhere near the abomination that was the Haren deal. Strasburg does have bad mechanics. http://www.chrisoleary.com/projects/baseba...nStrasburg.html Analysis of Scherzer: http://www.disabledlistinformer.com/?p=476

Garza throws no hitter
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) The difference was he wasn't hitting for power then. Considering he doesn't draw walks that puts a lot of pressure on his ability to hit for contact and power. He can hit .300 and actually not be that valuable as a corner outfielder. Before this year, that's what he pretty much did. He was basically the least valuable .290-.300 hitter in the league, especially if you add in his bad defense.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Apparently last week, Rizzo wanted Garza from the Rays for Dunn. http://danny-knobler.blogs.cbssports.com/m...ntryListMiniCnt Haha, that trade won't even work in MLB 10 The Show.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) I thought that Visquel had several pretty good offensive years with Cleveland. I know that he won't get into the Hall on his offensive prowess alone, but I thought that he was above average. He was pretty good for a couple of years. But for the majority of his career, he's been very mediocre.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) You have to add the qualifier "assuming the asking price is the same". It won't be and it shouldn't be. Scott is going to be here next year if we do get him. A year and two months of a .365 wOBA hitter is a lot more valuable than 2 months of a .340 wOBA hitter (that's what ZiPS is projecting for Edmonds).

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) I still think the Scherzer trade was pretty retarded. You could at least understand some of their thinking in that trade and you can pinpoint why they made it. They obviously overrated Jackson, but a lot of people did last year. They wanted Jackson because they thought they could win this year. Plus, Kennedy's been a decent pitcher for them, nothing great though. They also had concerns about Scherzer, which isn't surprising. Max's mechanics aren't exactly Cliff Lee-like. The deal's a win for the Tigers, no doubt, but I don't think it was retarded or anywhere near as bad as the Dan Haren deal that just took place.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) I think I can say this about 2/3 of the garbage players in the big leagues...he'd still be better than Kotsay during the regression. Yeah, that's true. Like I said, he does make sense for this team and he's surprisingly having a hell of a year (2.5 WAR). But if I have a choice of Luke Scott or Jim Edmonds, I'd take Scott in a heartbeat.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) Hitting .289, .866 OPS. I'd totally give up someone random from A-ball for that. .350 BABIP, unsustainable line drive rate of 29%, lots of fly balls. He's due for a regression and I don't want him on this team when it happens. He would make sense for this team, but I sure wouldn't consider him somebody you'd really like to have.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Jim Edmonds anyone? Yeah, he's old, but the man knows how to hit, is somehow more durable than Quentin, and still plays a decent OF. I'm not saying he'd even be the answer at DH, but at the very least he's an upgrade over both Jones and Kotsay, and is a good backup option just in case Quentin breaks his back while taking a shower. That'd be like a last resort type of move.

Mariners (Rowland-Smith 1-9, 6.27) @ White Sox (Floyd 5-8, 3.87)
Why can't Ozzie just sit Pierre if he really needs rest? Quentin in RF while our second best fielder DHs makes me mad.

I'm actually planning to go to a game around this time.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Call me crazy, but I'd much rather go after Luke Scott than Dunn. Not saying Dunn isn't the better player, but I think Scott would be the better option for us. He would not cost us nearly as much as Dunn in regards to cash and prospects. I'm thinking along the same lines.

Gerrardo Parra never walks. We don't need more people who can't get on base with little power.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) Too be honest, after that Haren trade (do we know who the PTBNL was yet?), I don't think the D-Backs have any idea what they are doing. They have made a lot of boneheaded moves in the past couple years, IMO. The PTBNL is Skaggs. I don't think they've made "boneheaded" moves. Josh Byrnes was a decent GM. He got Johnson and LaRoche for next to nothing this year in terms of finances. The only real boneheaded move came after Byrnes got fired and the Haren one is definitely that.

Teahen cleared for baseball activity...
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) But Quentin is a really bad one. If Teahen is even marginally better, then DH Quentin. UZR updates came out today. Quentin's now at an awesome -17.6. I'd rather have Brad Hawpe out there.

Mariners (Rowland-Smith 1-9, 6.27) @ White Sox (Floyd 5-8, 3.87)
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) Branyan has been dealing with a sore back, could return to the lineup tonight. Well that's certainly bad news.

Teahen cleared for baseball activity...
If we don't get a big bat at the deadline, Teahen should go play RF and bat 6th. In 2007, Teahen played 137 games in right and had a UZR of +9. Unfortunately, ever since, in 124 games, his UZR there has been -13. So yeah, kind of a mixed bag, but all I know is that those numbers are much better than Quentin's.
