  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) eh, while we were successful in 2005, you'd have to watch the games to see that for some reason they were the best managed games ozzie's ever had. That suicide squeeze v. boston, for instance. He did everything right that postseason, but there weren't that many things that had to be done by the manager. The players just performed.
  2. Turns out the no privileges thing about LeBron's friends isn't true.
  3. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) But how many managers would let their pitchers throw complete games. I'm not an Ozzie fan but I give him credit for 2005. However, he managed horribly down the strecth in 2008. Griffey in CF, the four man rotation. Makes me sick just thinking about it. The team had some big leads. Outside of game 5, he really had no hard decisions to make in regards to the starters.
  4. 8-7 now. Jake Fox goes deep on one that just kept on carrying.
  5. Tigers back on top. Man, this game might go on for 5 hours.
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) I feel that Ozzie does some great managing in the playoff type situations. He hardly made a false move in 2005, although one could argue that it would have been difficult to make a managerial mistake with that team. However, it does seem that he puts the right lineup out there and tends to use his pitchers more effectively when the season is on the line. Why he doesn't do that on a daily basis is beyond me. That's cause he didn't have many moves to make. When your starting pitchers throw 4 straight complete games, is there anything you have to do?
  7. If anything will kill the Tigers this year, it's their starting pitching.
  8. They're already up 5-1. Minnesota goes to Toronto, where they have had nightmares in recent years. We could see a big change in the standings real soon.
  9. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) Dunn doesn't want to DH, he also walks after this year Meanwhile I'm tired of KC players not named Soria or Greinke, DeJesus is overrated by this board Quentin is finally turning it on, let him ride his hotstreak out and see what happens, we have a month until the deadline Quentin for Dunn = No, Prospects for Dunn = Ok Yes, I value Quentin higher than Flowers or Viciedo right now, though I'm sure a lot of you here don't I think Quentin is worth more to the team right now than both Flowers and Dayan.
  10. Can I say neither? All three are really bad at something. Ozzie can't make a lineup or use his bullpen right. Gardnehire has similar problems, plus he's not as good as Ozzie off the field. Leyland breaks his pitcher's elbows frequently.
  11. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) DeJesus + Dunn HELL YEAH! I would definitley trade Q for Dunn straight up. If you insert two high OBP guys like DeJesus and Dunn all of a sudden you have a REALLY solid lineup. Pierre LF DeJesus RF Rios CF Konerko 1B Dunn DH Ramirez SS Pierzynski C Vizquel/Viciedo 3B Beckham 2B I'd rather have DeJesus lead off.
  12. So it appears that the Bulls said LeBron's inner circle would get no special privileges. I wonder if that's a possible deal breaker.
  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Kotsay would likely play RF in that scenario. (Dunn + DeJesus) >> (Kotsay/Jones + Quentin) Well yeah. And DeJesus is a good player under control for another year. So the contract difference between he and Carlos isn't gigantic.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) Yes, but the Brewers wouldn't it. It also would depend (to me) on whether Putz was going to stay as the closer. Why does Putz figure into this equation? You're not trading any bullpen pieces.
  15. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) are we really going to have to wait another 3 days at least to see who is going where? Yup. I can't wait till Friday.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:26 AM) Alexei always heats up with the weather. As for his defense, its significantly better since Teahen hasn't played 3B. I don't know if playing next to Omar calmed him down, or he didn't have to worry about covering the entire left side of the infield or whatever the reason, but he's playing much better right now. Until the bonehead plays return, if they return, SS is not an issue for the White Sox at least until it gets cold again. With the way he is hitting right now, Alexei projects to be a 3.1 WAR player with his great defense. If he keeps the defense up and hits like his career norms, he's an incredibly valuable player.
  17. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) Okay. How about he's batting .300 since May 1st (200 at-bats)? Seems like you're simply looking for reasons to trash him, IMO. You should read my post on the first page of the thread. I said he was the best defensive SS in baseball, I don't like trashing on the guy. But some of you are overestimating his offensive ability. I have legitimate reasons for the things I post about him.
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) No. Right now he's hotter than ****... Batting .393 over his last 10 games. And considering he was batting .214 on May 15th, reaching almost .280 before the all-star break is pretty damn impressive. 10 games shouldn't sway your opinion on a player's overall ability. Alexei still has a ton of weaknesses.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/rumors/post/Na...?urn=mlb,252779 Quentin for Dunn? That makes absolutely zero sense, unless KW is replacing Quentin with another move, but where's he going to get another hitter with Quentin's POTENTIAL ability to stick in RF? Maybe he wants Dunn and DeJesus. I wouldn't be so against that. But if Kenny plans on putting Dunn in RF, oh lawd...
  20. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Yeah but he just won us a baseball game that against the best team in the AL that puts us 1 game out of 1st place. You can't let the moment blind you... That's like saying Geoff Blum just won us game 3 of the World Series, he is the greatest extra innings hitter ever. Or giving Scott Podsednik a lifetime pass because he hit a walkoff home run in the World Series. If Alexei grounded into a double play to end the game, would you still be giving him praise? We gotta look at this with a little more objectivity.
  21. I would love the Mets to get him... We won't have to face him ever again this year.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) He's been over a .300 hitter with an 800+ OPS since first month of the season. He's obviously improved by leaps and bounds defensively in the last 4-6 weeks...for whatever reason. When I said "plus" hitter, I meant compared to the league average for that position. You won't find many shortstops who are in the Top 5 defensively and Top 10 offensively that are 28 years old and signed to such an affordable contract. I'd like to find another one that wouldn't cost our entire farm system to trade for. At best, Alexei is average to slightly above average right now. His .309 wOBA ranks third to last among all eligible AL SS.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Do you have to look at stats to know a plus offensive player ? What exactly is a plus offensive play ? He's hitting .278 with some power and decent speed on the bases. That's plus enough for me. He still can't take a walk, is incredibly inconsistent, and looks like he's in little league at times at the plate. He's still got a long ways to go.
  24. Scott Kazmir has been horrible this year. We better hit him better than we hit Feldman.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 4, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) He's saying offensively. Read that wrong. And I'm probably going to disagree with the plus offensive player thing.
