  1. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) Here's a thought just throwing out there. Is KW waiting for Damon to panic? I know he turned down more money than we can offer earlier but he literally has no market. If they truly have the money to get one more player as its been hinted at, signing Damon to a 5 mil deal would be a great pickup and still give ozzie his "flexibility at the dh spot" or if CQ begins to wear down he can play DH permanently. Signing Damon would be a game changer. Juanny would rock the Cell's RF stands... He's also year-after-year one of the most productive players in all of baseball. Let him regrow the hair and there is no stopping him. Also a great clubhouse guy...
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 01:12 AM) ask a cubs fan? I am far from a Juan Pierre apologist but a mental midget? The guy has had 4 seasons with over 200 hits! And 3 other seasons with 170+ hits! have you looked at his playoff averages? he has hit .304 with a .375 OBP, and with the Cubs he had 15 total bases in 7 games. Im not going to argue with you about Rios because he has to prove himself to the White Sox, but everything in his entire career has pointed that last season was the abberation, not the rule. I really think you should re-examine your definition of mental midget. Mental midgets shrink from pressure situations, and Juan Pierre has risen to the occasion when presented with pressure situations, and considering Rios was a blue jay his entire career save 2 months, he never really has been in a pressure situation Fair enough about Pierre and I shouldn't be throwing mud anyway before the season. Hope Pierre is all that he can be... My point was more to suggest that given CQs health/recovery question marks, having an outfield that relies on comebacks from Andruw Jones and Alex Rios, will not work...
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 12:40 AM) LOL what? Since when? Read any opinion article in the Toronto or LA papers from the past few years -- to summarize from a Blue Jays fan post announcement of our acquisition of Rios: "Good luck with Rios Chicago, he will frustrate the hell out of you, all the tools, but no toolbox. Hopefully Ozzie can get through to him. He plays without emotion and makes countless mental errors on the basepaths, the field, and at the plate." Harold Reynolds, who's opinion I respect greatly, was openly negative at the time and again pointed to Rios's lack of discipline and mental focus as his biggest detractors. Juan Pierre, ask a Cubs fan Talk to me in October
  4. Alex Rios and Juan Pierre are known as two of the biggest mental midgets in MLB. An OF strategy relying on the 'outperformance' of at least two of the trio of Andrew, Juan, and Alex is in-trouble. Carlos, no recovery lock either... They need another player like a Damon, who is consistent and performs year after year. Too many wild cards here...
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) Even if we threw money at Damon, it still would have left the same giant hole in CF we have had for years. You're right - cannot rely on AJ to be the everyday CF'r ... Still Juanny Damon, with his 'Crede/Rowand' clubhouse presence and lefty bat in the DH/rotating spot. Wow....
  6. Juanny Damon, what's another $12 mil? Why, oh why, did we pick-up Rios again?
  7. What is the conventional wisdom regarding Kila Ka'aihue? Switch hitter, good OBP, but not as much pop as expected perhaps? Also, know that the Royals released Jacobs, but what are the thoughts here?
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Really? Because the opposite tends to happen. Matsui probably is toast in the field but so is Jermaine and only 1 of them is willing to accept a primary designated hitting role. Alright, alright, I tried... ...at least our hat, t-shirt sales, and tv coverage would increase
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) He also had a significantly higher OBP if I read those stats correctly. 30bps meaningful, but dont discount the fielding ... Matsui is toast, JD's numbers would increase if he was simply DHing like Godzilla, and most importantly, is not nearly as sexy. Might also be cheaper -- not sure about that
  10. Can we please take a step back for a moment ... If we are seriously considering a dinosaur with bad knees who might be able to play RF, but mostly DH, then why in the would we not be interested in re-signing Jerry "I can rake other than 2H09" Dye?! Is a lefty more important than sexy?? 11. Hopefully KW follows JP's career-ending signing/lead and dumps Rios, what a stiff... Looking forward to watching some pitching in 2010, hopefully an exciting off-season and a new line-up coming.
  12. Don't Ask Dotel .... Best middle relief outside Farnsworth
  13. Good luck Mr. Incredible ... Hope you get your ring -- thanks for the great memories and the 2008 Division Title ...

    FIRE OZZIE

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) Ok, so who would you have pitched? Ozzie's been burning out the bullpen lately trying to win some games. You've been posting a lot lately without backing up your opinions with fact or at least what you would have done. Disco72, first of all, you are taking this very personally for some reason. More importantly, people can post whatever they like. You keep Freddy going because he was pitching well. If you replace him, you let your relief pitcher warm-up sufficently... That's purely managerial, nothing to do with Williams. How else would you like me to 'back-up' my opinions on qualitative issues like managing? I'll give you a lay-up, how many managers in MLB have started more different line-ups than Ozzie over the past two years? He over-manages. We can get to some of the harder ones, like fundamentals, after you nail that one smart guy. Oh, and btw, Disco still sucks.
  15. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) Somebody needs to photoshop a picture of Terrance & Phillip's "Asses of Fire" movie but with Contreras' and Linebrink's heads in their places. T_P.htm
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) I don't know how you can get mad at him after getting Rios and Peavy. Now, if he didn't make those moves, I would have some issues. Rios sucks ...

    FIRE OZZIE

... and how did we feel today? Again, at the stadium, again, embarrased. Did PHT fans agree with the Williams call? Yeah, neither did I... Again, no one sitting on the rail. Packing for Florida...

    FIRE OZZIE

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) ....and here we go. PHT is getting as unbearable as the product on the field. we all love Ozzie and his past, but he's not a good manager... why is it unbearable to have a debate? Isn't that the point of 'PHT'?
  19. His staff is questionable from top-to-bottom, including Coop Stupid line-up/managerial decisions all season long, year-after-year Was embarassed to be wearing a Sox cap at Yankee Stadium today and it was the last straw with him Starting the Count - AGAIN - and spotting the f*****g Yankees 8 runs Team half-assing it all day One-hitting 'Cy' 6 ERA/1.9 WHIP Mitre and the back-up bullpen Jayson should have run-out Cano's play AJ should have run-out hitting Mitre Pods should have made that catch without even having to dive Embarrasing beyond words, didnt even look like professionals today, let alone a team with any passion or motivation Hope they are enjoying the fancy whirlpools and showers in the locker room, think that was their only motivational drive Thanks for the memories Ozzie, you are and will be a legend of Sox lore, but time to go...
  20. Walker has pictures of Ozzie in a cornfield after an '87 Brewers game, how else can you explain it? Harold to hitting coach, who cares if he can't talk...
  21. i love it that he's a real fan, not just pretending to be sports fan to connect with the "common" man. In the Costas interview he referred to it as the Old Comi-n-sky Park, so he is suspect, but as 35thStreetSwarm points out, he represents...

    Obama.

Was very cool to see the President in a Sox jacket ... that said, and I'm not questioning his legitimacy as a Sox fan, but during the Costas interview referring to the old park as Kominsky Park? Anyone else catch that?
  24. I've been berated before for saying this, but lack of communication skills being vastly overstated (especially for someone who is already a coach), Harold Baines should be given a shot at hitting coach. Mattingly, as an example, is a great hitter, who was quiet in the clubhouse, and certainly seems to be doing something right out in LA... Walker can help Buddy down on the farm...
