Gordon Beckham and Joe Crede
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) O-Swing% and O-Contact% track pitches swung at and contacted outside of the strike zone Beckham's O-Swing% 2009 - 24.7% (LgAvg 25.1%) Beckhams's O-Swing% 2010 - 30.9% (LgAvg 28.5%) Beckham's O-Contact% 2009 - 59.3% (LgAvg 61.7%) Beckham's O-Contact% 2010 - 60.3% (LgAvg 66.5%) He's swinging at more bad pitches this year, and making contact with them at roughly the same percentage. He's still swinging at pitches in the zone, but he's overall just swinging more often than he did last year too (he swung 47% of the time last year, opposed to 49.2% this year). His approach at the plate this year has most definitely become worse. Greg Walker

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) I loved that 1983 Sox team. The rotation? Lamar Hoyt, Richard Dotson, Floyd Bannister, Jerry Koosman, Britt Burns. Off memory, I seem to recall that Bannister won like 8 in a row in the second half, Dotson won 9 in a row, and Hoyt won 10 in a row. And between them I have a vague memory of them going 42-5 in the second half. It was obscenely good. They were 3 games over at the ASB, then won 99 games. "Winning ugly" was the motto. The key offensively was putting Carlton Fisk in the #2 hole. Rudy Law stole 70+ bases in the lead off spot. I also remember down the stretch that Britt Burns, who was not as consistent, would pitch shutout, then get hit hard, then shutout, then bad game. Well he was on his shutout turn in the playoffs, and did in fact shut out the O's for 9 innings. But the baserunning blunder by the "Dibber" and Vance Law cost our best shot at a run, and we lost in 10. With Hoyt coming back at home the next day, the Sox would have been in the World Series. One of my favorite Sox squads until '05. ^^^^THIS^^^^^

Why is Kenny in Pittsburgh?
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) Quite the speculation there. I think it would be more likely if AJ is the one who is being traded right now, and he is going to say his goodbyes to each person individually. However, still believe it's a reach. Sure you're absolutely right, but I have a feeling he is the Angel's top choice and times-a-wastin' on their side. That said, they are doing well since Kendry went down.

Why is Kenny in Pittsburgh?
End of the game tonight, AJ goes up to PK, puts his arm around him and has a lot to say ... would be really, really sad to see the Captain go. Just a hunch...

6-16 game thread, Sox at Pirates
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) Inside info? Not at all, just seemed unusual but AJ went right to him, said a bunch of stuff, etc.

6-16 game thread, Sox at Pirates
Anyone see AJ with his arm around PK at the end of the game and sort of think they may know something we dont? Like it's his last game.... Would be really sad to see Paulie go....................

Beckham needs to be sent down
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 08:32 AM) I can't believe I'm saying this, but yes, at this point the organization needs to get Gordon back to making solid contact. Rally Crede -- do you have Joe's phone number? Think he'd sign a small contract?

Sox/Cubs Weekend
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Even tho it doesn't mean anything, I will be watching and Sox need to win, I still will be pissed if we loose the series to the Cubs. I completely agree. Feeling good hopefully after a Hawks cup, when the grill/beers start flowing at Murphy's I'll be psyched up for the weekend

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) You trade A.J. becasue the team sucks and we want to get something in return for him. He can "game" elsewhere. They will not get anything for him in return - that's the point. Also adds a lot of risk at the position
-
Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
I really dont understand why you trade AJ ... the guy, despite a sub-par season, is a baseball rarity, a good-hitting catcher (despite swinging at the first pitch constantly), a good gamer, and a veteran that Flowers could ultimately learn from ... he certainly competitive and we don't get anything for him in return. Don't know but having him finish his career with us and anchor that position (or mentor) seems to be worth an inexpensive extension.

White Sox select Chris Sale with #13 pick in MLB draft
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) I don't care if Lillibridge could kick his ass. Put him in the box against Sale, and he'd start him out with a change, follow it up with a sinking fastball, and then ace him with a breaking ball. This kid can pitch. He certainly can ... was just joking about his size. I am worried about the arm angle, but they will fix that up... Great pick hopefully

Sox/Cubs Weekend
It's our 2010 playoffs and they can't have it....

White Sox select Chris Sale with #13 pick in MLB draft
In all seriousness, anyone worried about his arm-angle or the fact that Brent Lillibridge could clearly kick his a$$?

The Soxtalk Committee on Closing
This season is a write-off, trade Thornton and/or Santos, who have substantial trade value. Keep Putz and Jenks, who dont, to mop-up this season, maybe compete for the rebuilding 2011 and move on. Given we are unfortunately going into a 1-2 year rebuilding phase, closer is not a priority...
