FS: White Sox Should Be Pleased With 3rd Pick
Yeah for sure. I could totally see them taking Misner in that scenario. I also know that the Sox like Nick Lodolo (I'm not sure they'd take him at #3) and the front office recently went to UNLV to see Stott

So let me ask you...it's early but lets say Rutschman and Vaughn are off the board...what will the Sox do?

FS: White Sox Should Be Pleased With 3rd Pick
I wrote that a three player consensus is forming. They have the 3rd pick. Of course they'd prefer the 1st overall pick. Taking the player left on the board isn't a bad outcome by any means though.

FS: White Sox Should Be Pleased With 3rd Pick
I wrote about the players rumored at the top of June's draft for FutureSox today. If these guys are identified as three consensus talents then the organization should have an easy decision to make: http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2019/03/white-sox-should-be-pleased-with-third-pick/

Gio Gonzalez
Gio Gonzalez doesn't cost a draft pick. The White Sox chose Ervin Santana instead. They don't have a rotation spot for Gio at the moment. They were probably scared off by the walks and amount of homers he gives up. I think going with Ervin is fine, personally.

2019 MLB draft thread
It's not Nick Hostetler. It's been the organization philosophy though.

Guess the Opening Day 25 Man
Minaya has been outrighted so that changes some things here. I think Ian Hamilton goes down to start and Ervin Santana begins on the DL. 1B Jose Abreu 2B Yolmer Sanchez SS Tim Anderson 3B Yoan Moncada DH Yonder Alonso C Welington Castillo CF Adam Engel LF Daniel Palka RF Jon Jay Bench INF Jose Rondon INF/OF Leury Garcia OF Brandon Guyer C James McCann Pitching Staff Carlos Rodon LHP Reynaldo Lopez RHP Lucas Giolito RHP Ivan Nova RHP LHP Manny Banuelos RHP Alex Colome RHP Kelvin Herrera RHP Nate Jones RHP Dylan Covey RHP Ryan Burr LHP Jace Fry LHP Caleb Frare

Eloy officially got paid
Is it really that different than signing Abreu or Robert?
-
Eloy officially got paid
The minor league season does not start on March 28th though. That's the issue. I would expect him to debut on Friday April 26th vs Detroit.

Eloy officially got paid
Your deal works in the sense that he's making real money over the first three years. I can't see him locking in 2026 and beyond though. If everything goes right he's looking at 3 minimum salary years and then 4 years of arb where he could make $55-$60 million over that period. If he's making $5 million in ARB1 which is possible, he could make $12 million, $18 million and $23-$25 million in years 2-4. I might be a little high on the totals but I wouldn't lock myself into two years on the back end for that deal.

Eloy officially got paid
So a few things here: I don't think the 8/100 offer makes sense for Eloy at this stage. People are prematurely disregarding the cost certainty for the club though. It may look like an overpay if potential isn't reached but if they truly feel like Eloy will be a superstar, then 8/100 is a bargain. I'm shocked that more people wouldn't be on board. He'd start with the club immediately and get 8 years of control instead of 7. I would think the White Sox would prefer options in 2027 and 2028 but there's no incentive for the player to sign up to hit free agency in his early thirties at this point. Also, I've seen misinformation about Eloy's timeline. Since he's on the 40-man roster, he needs to spend 20 days in the minors or else he accrues a major league season. On April 20th, the Sox are in the midst of a long road trip. We won't see Eloy debut until the Tigers series at home on 4/26-4/28.

Eloy officially got paid
I think he turns that down personally. He'll make more than that just playing out the arb process.

This is a worse take than your opinion on Pride Night I think.

FutureSox Night at Guaranteed Rate Field
FutureSox Night will be Saturday June 15th vs the New York Yankees. Tickets are like $62 plus tax for a bleacher seat and pregame patio party from 4:40-6:40. It includes unlimited food and beer during that two hour period. It was a good time last year but we are hoping to get like 100 people since it's on a Saturday this year. Come out and join us! Here's the link: http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2019/03/2nd-annual-futuresox-night-at-guaranteed-rate-field/

That's not what I said. Read my post from a few minutes ago.

Eloy officially got paid
If the Sox wait for him to "prove himself", it likely costs a hell of a lot more $$
-
Eloy officially got paid
I have no idea if it's true but it makes some sense for both parties obviously. If the Sox do nothing, Eloy comes up on April 26th. He plays this year and 6 more seasons. He'll likely qualify for Super Two status which gives him 4 arbitration years. If the Sox believe that Eloy is an absolute stud, those arb years could potentially cost between $50-$60 million. If you look at year 8 as a $30 million commitment, then you are really only giving him $10-$15 million over the first 3 years where he'd cost you peanuts otherwise. It makes sense for the Sox because he could be in the lineup on opening day, never have to go through the arb process and it could be structured in a manner that is cost efficient. If he bombs, it looks really bad but I think they get praised if they ultimately do it. For Eloy, he could likely make more $$ betting on himself, but guaranteeing yourself $100 million would be tough to turn down and it's only foregoing 1 free agent year.

Sox Therapy Thread-Enter at your own risk
Holy fucking shit this thread. I'm not easily offended but I'm an atheist that has multiple gay friends. To me, the mere suggestion that a higher being created us at all makes me chuckle but still believing that being a homosexual is some sort of choice is absolutely absurd. It's like being on the other side of the vaccine "debate". For some things, there just isn't another side to argue.

Guess the Opening Day 25 Man
There aren't enough roster spots to do what you're suggesting. Especially with an 8 man bullpen. I would go Eloy in LF, Jay in CF and Palka/Guyer platooning in RF.

I keep scratching my head over the Kevan Smith DFA
They needed to add Seby Zavala to the roster and weren't going to carry 4 catchers on the 40-man. They tried to slide him off the 40 man. He was claimed and then an opportunity came to acquire Colome for Narvaez and they did it. That left them with just Welington/Zavala on the 40-man. James McCann sucks so I understand being critical of that signing but Kevan Smith is just a guy and is 30 years old. We should see Zavala and Collins sometime this season.

Who is your top 2019-20 free agent target
JD Martinez will 100% opt out. He re-enters the market next time with a QO though. He should be able to get another 5/100 deal though. The Sox should be more than willing to do that. Hell, the Sox should have done it last off-season.

Guess the Opening Day 25 Man
They could keep Leury and expose Rondon to waivers in this scenario I suppose. Engel probably makes the team too. Engel isn't better than Brandon Guyer though so I can't justify putting him over Guyer.
