FS Draft Preview: Hunter Bishop
Nope. Not affiliated. Just the opinion of one writer. Have you looked at prospect lists though? Some of the OF's aren't doing well currently but it's one of the strengths of the system. Eloy, Robert, Gonzalez, Basabe, Adolfo, Rutherford, Steele Walker, etc. They have lots of guys. That's all it means.

More Replying to @MitchellWinkelm @JamesFox917 1st Round Picks since 2007 by WAR White Sox = 65.9 Cubs = 54.6 Royals = 52.5 Indians = 45.7 Twins = 41.1 Tigers = 25.2 Believe whatever narrative you want and sure, Sale accounts for a lot of it but it’s hard to draft in the 1st round for MLB. Incredibly hard. 43 is Sale but 24 of the Indians is Lindor, 47 of the Cubs is Bryant, Baez and Cashner, 32 of the Royals is Hosmer and Moustakas. It’s all a crap shoot 1 reply2 retweets0 likes How do I embed tweets on here? 11:41 AM - 26 May 2019

This is actually where Nick Hostetler came from though. Schuerholtz model of power pitching and athletes.

They actually have them selecting Maurice Hampton in round 2 though. Hampton won't be 18 until August. He has a strong football commitment to LSU but here's his profile from pipeline. Hampton is one of only four players named an Under Armour All-American in baseball and football, joining Kyler Murray, A.J. Brown and fellow 2019 prep outfielder Jerrion Ealy. Named Mr. Tennessee Football at the Division II 3-A level last fall, Hampton not only is one of the Draft's top outfielders but also a four-star cornerback ticketed to play two sports at Louisiana State if he doesn't turn pro. The most athletic prospect to come out of Tennessee in years, he could become the state's first prep position player to go in the first round since Mike White in 1986. Like most athletes who star in multiple sports, Hampton needs refinement on the diamond, but his huge upside could make the patience that will be required in his development worth it. His right-handed swing could get smoother but still generates impressive bat speed and exit velocities, giving him the potential for 25 or more homers on an annual basis if he makes enough contact. He struggled against quality pitching early on the showcase circuit last summer but continually improved and gave a glimpse of what he might be if he focused on baseball. Hampton has dynamic tools beyond his raw power. He's also a well above-average runner who can make an impact as a basestealer and a defender. He definitely has the quickness for center field, though he needs to refine his reads and routes, and also flashes plus arm strength that will enable him to play anywhere in the outfield.

Keith Law made an update to the Orioles part of his mock draft 1. Baltimore Orioles: Adley Rutschman, C, Oregon State I've said this before, but I'll repeat it: This isn't a lock. Rutschman is the consensus No. 1 prospect in the class, but I have heard from multiple sources that the Orioles will at least explore other options, notably Andrew Vaughn, to strike the best possible deal, since they pick again at 42, 71 and 79. UPDATE: The Orioles could also consider JJ Bleday at this pick.

My guess would be Houston LHP Seth Romero

I've heard nothing on that. I'm hoping it's two prep bats and then lots of pitching personally.

Just a couple things from what I've heard about their preferences. Some scouts from the Detroit Tigers are expecting the Sox to take Abrams One of the longest tenured beat guys in town told me last week that the Sox won't pass on Witt Jr. if available With that being said, I won't be surprised if it's Vaughn but Abrams makes the most sense at this point.

We can definitely look at it after the draft. I'm expecting lots of pitching though in this draft class

Thanks man. We have Bishop and Rutschman coming to close out the week.

Don't know much about him. #128 according to mlbpipeline. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019/?list=draft

I think you're correct. I think the Royals take Witt Jr. over Rutschman though. At this point I think these are the most realistic possibilities: 1. Rutschman 2. Witt Jr. 3. Abrams/Vaughn 1. Witt Jr. 2. Rutschman 3. Abrams/Vaughn 1. Vaughn 2. Witt Jr. 3. Rutschman For any Sox fans hoping for Adley Rutschman, the best case scenario for that happening would be Andrew Vaughn going #1 overall. I wonder what type of discount Vaughn would be willing to take. I personally think he falls to #5 otherwise.

Those are fair points. I took exception to you saying: Madrigal’s winning mentality is going to help him hit with more power supposedly. That's fucking bullshit, man. Nobody said that. Talk about taking things out of context.

Because Witt Jr is a definite SS. He has much more power than Abrams too.

I'm the one that tweeted this earlier and I was para-phrasing Hostetler. It's obviously not the most important factor but the fact that Madrigal has been on winning teams his entire life is a benefit. His makeup is off the charts. Jake Burger is similar in that regard. Those dudes are going to get everything they can out of their ability because they work harder than lots of guys. I understand the concerns with Madrigal and they're warranted. The hope is that the contact skills are so good that once he gets stronger and gets to use the juiced baseballs more power unlocks. Nobody fucking said that he's going to develop power because of his winning mentality though.

Madrigal was the best college hitter in the draft. Teams had 70 grades on his hit tool and defense. Madrigal is really safe. I preferred Kelenic but completely understood going Nick Madrigal and it's waaaaay to early to make determinations on the pick at this point.

I expect lots of college pitching. It's not weak throughout it's just weak early on. There aren't many top of the rotation types. You can find backend starters and relievers though.

Luis Gonzalez is hitting like .340 over his last 10 games

Absolutely no clue. Kiley is the first one to suggest the idea. I might have a better idea like a week prior to the draft. They hold a HS workout and I usually get some of the names. They are very secretive about it though.

Probably true. Everyone has them on Abrams at this point though. I think If Witt and Rutschman go 1-2 they pick Abrams. If Witt and Vaughn go 1-2 they'd take Rutschman. I'm honestly not sure what they'd do if Vaughn-Rutschman go 1-2 though. They might prefer Abrams if they actually have a plan for #45.

No shot. I think they'd take Adley in a heartbeat. The interesting scenario to me is if Vaughn goes #1 and Rutschman #2.

I think in the case of the White Sox, the lack of success with wood bats and on the US National Team is likely a factor. I think it's also smart to select up the middle athletes with premium picks.

I understand the apprehension but Pipeline, BA, and FG all have the Sox taking Abrams now and Law was the first one to say Kenny Williams was fond of him. All signs seem to point to Abrams at this juncture.
