  1. Ownership is just not spending that type of money this offseason
  2. Yeah but it makes more sense when you're better. They won't be signing free agents with QO next winter either. True. I think it's more about the bonus pool lost than anything. There's zero reason the Sox should be forfeiting draft picks right now though.
  3. Correct but the signing team still forfeits the picks.
  4. Here's the thing about the free agent market: it would be Santander and Alonso plus forfeiting the first pick in the 2nd round, first pick in the 3rd round and $1 million in international pool space so that you might win 65 games.
  5. I know that most fans always want their team to go for it but San Francisco has hurt themselves in free agency. They keep signing players with QO atatched to short-term deals and forfeiting 2nd round picks. They have a smaller bonus pool every year and now their system isn't very good.
  6. I previewed the international signing period for the White Sox at FutureSox. It's currently available on Patreon: https://www.futuresox.net/2025/01/03/2025-white-sox-international-signing/ The White Sox have $6.2 million to spend and their agreements total around $4.2 million so far. The group is headlined by Cuban 3B Alejandro Cruz. They've also signed Cuban righty Yobal Rodriguez. Pitching has been a focus and they've given some other bonuses as well. Cesar Familia RHP Dominican Republic $350K Jhonny Morao LHP Dominican Republic $300K Roderick Medina RHP Panama $275K Yordani Soto SS Dominican Republic $750K Diego Natera C Venezuela $225K Jeremy Aponte OF Venezuela $200K Igor Escobar Inf Venezuela $70K. I'm curious to see how the presence of Roki Sasaki affects the White Sox. Can they trade money to help someone sign him? Can they sign a player that gets their deal voided from the team who actually signs him? I'll be curious to see that.
  7. The Sox literally don't have anywhere for Cartaya to play.
  8. The owner is claiming that they don't, yes. Has nothing to do with the front office. They're spending what has been budgeted.
  9. The front office just doesn't have this type of money to spend unfortunately.
  10. Sounds like Baltimore made a big offer to Burnes but he simply wanted to stay in Arizona.
  11. Yeah but he's not considered one of the very top guys I have no idea. Cruz is the only reported signing. I'm sure they have more and we just don't know about them yet. This exactly.
  12. The White Sox are likely pretty locked into Marco Paddy’s signing class for January 15 at this point. Players have had agreements for years at this point. Best case scenario at this point would be a team signing Sasaki and reneging on some deals. Then maybe the Sox could potentially break some agreements or use their signing money to grab players who are now left without deals. Alejandro Cruz is getting $2 million from Sox. No other deals have been reported at this point. Leaves them around $4.2 million available.
  13. David Keller has the same innocuous title that Marco Paddy had but my interpretation is that he’s essentially the international director and Louis Silverio is running the academy. This hire for a coordinator is basically the #2 to Keller. They will coordinate between the area scouts and staff in the DR up to Keller and the front office. It’s a big job, but a necessary one.
  14. I don’t think Booser being 32 is very relevant. It’s all about value created. He’s a lefty with good stuff, 5 years of control and 3 options. They’re hoping to optimize him under their pitching development system and flip him again at some point. I like Fajardo but I’ll trust them on pitching decisions in general going forward.
  15. The Sox absolutely think they’ll get more than Fajardo for Booser. He’s 32 but he’s not even arb eligible and has 5 years of control and three options. I get it.
  16. John Ely is apparently leaving the organization to focus on his young family. That wasn’t really said.
  17. Nah they'll go over. It's really hard to be that bad again.
  18. Thaiss had a 100 wRC+ vs RHP last year and he’s really familiar with the coaching staff. It’s fine. Quero and Teel both need more time in AAA
  19. Agreed. It's very weird. Results will ultimately be what matters but he's done a pretty solid job behind the scenes. Getz has made multiple really promising hires and has made a real effort to change the way things have been. Smart people have signed up to come here due to whatever his plan is. They have what looks to be a top 5 farm system and they were around 20 at this time last year. Getz isn't the hire that I would've made but saying he's in over his head right now just isn't an accurate statement. If that makes me a "Getz Lover" then I'll wear it I guess.
  20. There's really no excuse. My guess is they'd say they couldn't trade it. Even if they were to say that they reallocated the money to something else (employees, technology, etc), they could still do that and trade the $$. If they trade $740K in international space, no money actually changes hands. You're literally just giving someone else the right to spend $740K more of their own money. It's pretty frustrating though.
  21. I thought they were taking Arjun Nimmala if Blake Mitchell was off the board.
  22. Media literacy is at an all time low in this country. Jesus christ, guys.
  23. I listed him as the favorite in FutureSox Rule 5 Preview fwiw https://www.futuresox.net/2024/12/01/2024-chicago-white-sox-rule-5-draft-p/
