Yeah I don’t know about this. It doesn’t seem like Jerry is giving up control anytime soon based on everyone I’ve talked to. Ishbia has to have some assurances but I don’t think this moves quickly.
-
Sounds like it’ll be a bit slower but it’s indeed good news. I think many people haven’t read the articles because of cancelled Athletic subscriptions.
-
Justin Ishbia isn’t backing out of Twins deal without some assurances that he’ll eventually assume control of the White Sox. He just wouldn’t. It makes no sense. Regardless of what the White Sox say publicly. It might not be soon though.
-
Yeah it’s from Reifert.
-
Definitely seems like part of it What do you mean?
-
Not that anyone cares at this point but I've heard he'll compete for a bullpen role.
-
His teammates seemingly don’t have any issues with him. I believe this is true but it’s still pointless. Even if you don’t care about the public blowback, there’s no upside. You can’t even flip this guy for anything. Just a pointless signing.
-
You know what deal probably makes sense for both teams? Mike Tauchman for Alexander Canario. Now that would be fascinating.
-
How do they acquire him though?
-
The 40-man isn’t the issue. Carrying him on the 26-man roster is.
-
Maybe like a Nick Nastrini or something?
-
They’ll absolutely claim him on waivers. Someone else will probably trade for him before that though. That’s the issue. Should the White Sox be the winning bid? I’m not sure about that
-
How though? They can't carry 6 outfielders on the roster with 13 pitchers and 13 position player requirement.
-
It makes a lot more sense in that case but the offers need to improve greatly for that to happen I'd think.
-
Fine but will they roster 6 outfielders? I'm sure he wouldn't be opposed but that doesn't matter. He's out of options. Canario literally needs to be on the 26-man roster or he'll be DFA again.
-
I feel like Canario is unlikely. The White Sox would likely claim him and let him compete for a spot but you can't trade anything for him because I doubt they'd release Michael Taylor or Austin Slater for him. Canario would need to make the club out of spring training or be DFA again.

I wrote about some college options for the Sox and I’m waiting on bonus pools: https://www.futuresox.net/2025/02/19/white-sox-2025-mlb-draft-notebook-2-0/

It's very likely that all of these pitchers will get hurt at some point because pitchers inevitably break. Hagen Smith and Grant Taylor have both already had Tommy John though.
-
Like Garrett Crochet?
-
Agreed but I hate the assertion that those deals Rick Hahn signed were a mistake. They didn’t work but the alternative could’ve been those players being good and ownership being unwilling to pay market rate.
-
Still a perfectly fine trade Yeah he’ll receive a year of service.
-
Apparently. It’s the ideal time for it but sucks for the kid regardless. Would’ve been really limited this first season anyway.
-
For the record, I couldn’t care less who believes and who doesn’t.
-
Mike Shirley is actually good at his job though. Lots of others were replaced. He did draft Chris Getz though haha Being skeptical of ownership is totally warranted. Jerry is awful. It’s a very different organization right now though below ownership. I mean Rosenthal and Passan wrote entire articles on the organizational change. Merkin, DVS and others reported heavily on the research and development, international and hitting infrastructure hires. This info has been out there for anyone who was interested in being open minded. We don’t know if it’ll work because they ultimately need to develop players. However, they’ve put themselves in a much better position and situation to actually be able to develop players.
