  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) I've mentioned before, but Tyrod Taylor is likely available. Romo may be available. I'd rather draft a qb that we've rated appropriately then giving up a 3rd overall pick and a 4th for garoppolo. Agree. It's easy to say all these QB's are bad because most people don't actually go on draft breakdown.com and watch 5 game sod each guy. Bears should probably take the player at #3 that they think is best available. However, if they think one of these guys is the QB that they want, then they should absolutely take him at #3 or move back a little and do it. If by some miracle Myles Garrett fell to #3, the Bears would pull the trigger I'm sure. The other defensive guys aren't a consensus though. That's really high for a DB unless they are super studs. People have Jonathan Allen up there but from what I've watched and read Stanford DL Solomon Thomas and Ohio State S Malik Hooker are the 2 best defensive players after Garrett. It's going to be a fun offseason I think.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) At least the Bears staff gets to coach the Senior Bowl. That should give them a better look at a couple of the QBs. Supposedly, it is where Dallas became intrigued with Prescott. None of the good QB's are at the Senior Bowl though. Trubisky, Kizer, Watson, Mahomes, and Kaaya are not there. They could see Davis Webb of Cal. That's about it it.
  3. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) I think you have to find the QB. Nothing else matters. The Vikings team and Texans team both have a ton of talent and pretty much can't do anything. Texans stumbled into the playoffs, they are at -49 net points this year. Colts have pretty much done as bad a job as you possibly can in drafting and adding players and still finished 8-8. Completely agree. QB is #1 priority.
  4. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) Yes, I agree with this. Power guys are nice and every team needs them, but you also need the guys that that can hit for average and just seem to know how to get on base. OF Kyle Tucker, RHP Francis Martes, 1B AJ Reed, and OF Ramon Laureano is a nice package from Houston. That's a deal I'd probably make. That probably hasn't been offered though.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 06:30 AM) The price isn't measured against a trade made 8 years ago. The price is being measured against what Sam Bradford got, that's why you keep seeing 1st and 4th. And the Patriots have little motivation to come off that price because why should they? Because I don't see anyone paying it, he only has 1 year left on his deal, their starting QB thinks he's playing into his 40's. Something has to give somewhere.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) Two years ago they were heavy on skill players and barren on trenches. now have good/great play, young and improving dline play, and good linebacker core. And worse skill players. Yeah this is true. Kevin White can't be counted on. This kind of hinges on Jeffery. Jeffery and Meredith each had 800+ yard seasons with bum QB's. Jordan Howard is very good. It's clear that QB and secondary are top needs but another pass rusher, a starting TE, and more speed at WR is also necessary
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) Who were the playmakers on the 2014 Bears defense? If their players are worse than they were 2 years ago, that's on Pace. The fact is 17 forced turnovers in 2015 set a franchise record low. The 11 this year shattered it. I don't know if it's coaching, what is emphasized, lack of players , luck, or all of the above, but it needs to change quickly. They have had no talent before and forced a lot more turnovers. Pace can draft 6 future Pro Bowlers in April, if the team is 6-10, neither he or Fox will be around for the annual post mortem press conference. They don't have less talent than they had 2 years ago. Their secondary is bad. The front 7 when healthy is pretty good.

  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2017-zips-p...cago-white-sox/ What this means is, if Quintana and Frazier are traded you are looking at roughly 20 zWAR. That's about a 66-67 win team generally.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) If this is true, we all may be slightly disappointed with the haul. If they're intent on finishing a deal before camp opens, they will end up settling for best offer. The best offer might be something that we've been expecting though. I guarantee you the Sox are asking for the sun and the moon but ultimately are fine with accepting just the moon in return. For example, Sox could be asking for Meadows, Glasnow, Newman, and something else. Meadows could be the sticking point. Sox may be fine with taking something like Glasnow, Bell, Newman all along though. Hope that makes sense.
  11. Interesting thoughts from Buster Olney on ESPN today. It's Insider so need a subscription but here's the Quintana portion: http://www.espn.com/blog/buster-olney/insider/post?id=15688 The Chicago White Sox could wait until after the start of spring training or even into next season to trade Jose Quintana, the best available starting pitcher. But evaluators with knowledge of the Quintana discussions say the White Sox seem intent on finishing a deal before camps open. The Pittsburgh Pirates could be the frontrunners for the left-hander, whose modest salary through the 2020 season make him perfect for Pittsburgh's budget.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 07:23 AM) Relax Luke Cage. Do you honestly enjoy Benetti? It reminds me of Ventura replacing Ozzie. He won't embarrass the team or organization, but he's about as interesting as listening to paint dry. Yeah Benetti is fantastic. I've met him. Great guy. Very insightful IMO. He's a voice for the modern game. He's very knowledgable about new age stats and modern baseball. He doesn't talk about Rico Petricelli either which is a plus.
  13. Gar Forman's wife and Michael Reinsdorf's wife are best friends. They also think it's beneficial to get into the playoffs rather than going young and losing. I wouldn't expect anything to change.
  14. Fred Hoiberg might be a bad coach. Personnel is a much bigger issue though. They've drafted really poorly and added a bunch of guys that don't even fit what the HC wants to do. Hoiberg might be terrible but how could anyone tell?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) Huh, I am not seeing anything as of yet. It's from Josh Jones @jrocke217
  16. White Sox reportedly interested in Everth Cabrera according to twitter. I can't tweet right now.
  17. Penn State had 2 losses. Ohio State had 1. This is easy to figure out. And if Penn State, why not Michigan?
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) I got talked into this type of league on nfl.com. Thinking of how to pick because even if I pick guys on a buy in the first round, I'll get x2 pts in second round. I think I've settled on: QB:Ryan QB: Rodgers RB: Bell RB:Elliott RB: Miller WR: Beckham WR: Hill WR: Edelman TE: Graham TE: Ebron K: Janikowski F: Ajayi I probably lose Ajay, Janikowski, and Ebron for sure after round 1.
  19. I'm doing playoff fantasy football. Gist of it is: We get 12 players. 1 per playoff team. 2QB, 3RB, 3WR, 2TE, 1Flex, 1K. I'm trying to figure out the best strategy for this. This is what I've come up with initially: QB: Matt Ryan QB: Aaron Rodgers RB: Le'Veon Bell RB: Ezekiel Elliott RB: Jay Ajayi WR: Odell Beckham WR: Doug Baldwin WR: DeAndre Hopkins TE: Eric Ebron TE: Martellus Bennett K: Sebastian Janikowski F: Tyreek Hill Any thoughts?
  20. If Glasnow + Newman ++ is the best deal right now then the Sox should keep Q into the season. Newman is very good but isn't really the type of headlining position player the Sox need. I'd wait if this is the best the Pirates will do.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Freese and Jaso are old veterans, neither of whom is very good. Bell was very productive for the major league team last year. He was a top prospect, so he has the pedigree. They are trying to win, so why would they give that up? Asking for them to include Bell is as pointless and trade-killing as asking for Mookie Betts was last July (okay, not as silly as asking for Betts, but it's the same problem). Or dare I use another analogy - as pointless as including Trayce in a trade for Frazier, when you had no center fielder to replace him (yes, Bell is better and has the pedigree Trayce lacked; and the Pirates have some sort of backup; but it's just not a move a contender will make). Pirates can't get him without one of Bell or Meadows IMO.
  22. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) I would take all these deals gladly but I doubt any of the other teams would be willing to. IF the other teams wouldn't be willing to do something like that, then Q probably stays honestly.
  23. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) Hypothetically speaking if Garrapolo was released from the Pats and placed in this years draft. Wouldnt you strongly consider taking him at 3 if you are the Bears? This is apples to oranges though. Garoppolo is older than the QB prospects and will cost a hell of a lot more in a contract. Would you rather have 21 year old QB making Peanuts or 26 year old QB making big $$?
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) My point was the same point I have made before, but apparently you missed. 2018 is not going to be a year spent in competition. Anyone who is expecting that, is not being very realistic. No it probably won't be. But many of these young building blocks will be on the team and many more will be joining the team with potential looking upward for 2019. 2018 won't be a playoff year but it will be fun to watch.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) More than I will enjoy the next few years for sure. This statement is absolutely nuts to me, man. Really? You'd rather watch these patched together rosters of hope and prayer then legit stud prospects coming up at every turn? wow. Alright.
