I agree. The vast majority of Kannapolis’ roster is 22 or 23. I’m glad those guys are off to a good start, but we got to see they perform in High A before I get too excited.

Physically power may be the last tool to come, but we’re not talking about a guy who lacks raw power. Sheets is a well built kid with plenty of strength who hit 20+ homers last year as a junior in college. The concern is over his inability to translate that to in-game power at the moment. I’m not panicking just yet, but if he doesn’t hit double digit homers this year that’s a really bad sign.

Let’s hold off getting too excited about the 2017 class. Burger injured, may or may not ever be the same. Sheets is showing excellent plate discipline but limited power. There’s no difference. You get an extra of team control if you wait like 18 days or so into the season, so after the third week of the season it’s all the same.

If both could develop into quality LH bullpen options even better. But I’ll be happy if even just one can provide some certainty heading into next offseason.

You also don’t know what level of control Hahn had during those early years and how much Reinsdorf influenced decision making. We know the front office proposed rebuilding a while ago and it seems like Jerry told them to make one last run at things but didn’t really give them the budget to accomplish that task. And by no means am I giving Hahn a free pass, but right now I’m in wait and see mode. I like the moves he’s made so far. Having said, if the rebuild fails, he will most definitely be gone and deservedly so.
