I don’t want to call out anyone here specifically, but there is most definitely a bias against black athletes. IMO, a white SS making the same mistakes that Tim has made would be far less likely to be referred to as being mentally retarded in terms of baseball IQ. I also think they would get less shit for demonstrating their excitement on the field. Soxtalk in general is pretty good about this stuff, more of an observance of baseball fans in general.

Fans will probably give him more time because he’s 24 and was incredibly raw when he was drafted. And while you keep saying 3rd season to express disappointment, he’s effectively in his second season playing time wise. I’m not sure why you think he can’t or won’t get better with more experience. Also, he’s been one of the most valuable base-runners in baseball this year, so I’m not sure this idea he has poor base-running skills comes from. You must be only looking at the rare mistakes and not the overall body of work which has been stellar.

He’s a catcher so much less of an issue IMO

Tim is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorites. I can’t remember another guy who played with this much swag. He’s kind of playing the A.J. role but doing so in more of a fun manner. And the kid has got some serious balls to take all this criticism and still stand up for what he believes in. I really hope he doesn’t back down because lame ass cowards like Perez catch feelings & then threaten his teammates.

It really bothers me that you can only play with so much emotion. This is a fucking game, people should be excited when good things happen and not be afraid to show it.

Basabe with his fourth HR of the year in the 1st inning. I could care less that he’s repeating, he’s young for the league and is absolutely killing it. His OPS was over 1.000 before that HR. Kid is well on his to making some top 100 lists.
