  1. Engel is two hitless/walkless at-bats away from his OPS dropping below .400. That still may be nearly double Jacob May’s OPS with us last year, but seems like he should suffer the same fate if Trayce shows any amount of ability.
  2. Don’t worry about the HR Carson, just get the next guy out.
  3. But fuck all those extra base hits, walks, stolen bases, and awesome defense, dude will be out of baseball if he doesn’t get that K rate under 30%.
  4. And Collins is most definitely broken. I get the BB rate is nice and all, but not when it comes at the expense of making contact and putting good swings on the ball. His approach at the plate is terrible right now and it’s showing.
  5. Glad to see he’s already back in form.
  6. His FIP is 4.20 despite the absurd BB rate. That puts him right around 60th overall for starters. So while he’s been lucky, he’s also been fairy good and has flashed legit TOR stuff. I fully expect Lopez to improve his command over the coming months and that should help mitigate some of the ERA regression that is likely coming.
  7. Call me crazy, but I’ll happily take Fulmer and his warts over MiGo any day of the week.
  8. I don’t think you can get worse than a broken-down MiGo. Dude couldn’t even hit 90 MPH last start. Something definitely seemed wrong.
  9. I don’t think Fulmer’s struggles change any of the calculus. Ultimately we need to convert three of Kopech, Lopez, Giolito, Hansen, Dunning, & Cease into top of the rotation starters. Rodon will be in the mix for a while as well. We can always sign a veteran mid-rotation starter if needed to backup. And if we can’t develop a #5 starter between the guys I listed and all our other pitching depth, then we have larger problems at play. Therefore, definitely take BPA at #4 so unless Mize suddenly falls, that player should hopefully be a position player.
  10. I can’t comment on the cold, but we’ve played less games than pretty much every team in baseball. Having those three games cancelled in Minnesota reallly screwed us. I fully expected our guys to be rusty pitching on so much rest. As for yesterday, I’m obviously just speculating that the stomach bug could have impacted his command, but Lopez did specifically say it hurt his stuff a bit. Look, I don’t think he’s suddenly going to have perfect command because he won’t, but I think there is reason to be optimistic with him. As for the rest of the staff, I don’t know what’s going on there, but it’s obviously a huge problem and needs to be addressed ASAP or this will be a historical season for the wrong reasons.
  11. He also hasn’t had the best pitching conditions. His second start was really cold, his third start was on seven days rest, and yesterday he was battling a stomach bug. His first start which was in a dome he only gave up two walks in six innings. These may be excuses to some extent, but the reality is those factors could have had some impact on his command. He’s also a young pitcher who should hopefully improve over time. And despite averaging 5.63 BB/9 his FIP is only 4.20, which demonstrates how teams haven’t been able to square up against his stuff and just how good he could be with even moderate improvement in command. There’s still development to be had here, but I fully expect the command issues to improve as the weather gets warm and as he gets on a normal pitching routine.
  12. The kid has looked fantastic so far this year IMO. Has been a real bright spot for us. I know the command hasn’t been perfect, but there’s no doubting the stuff or his ability to battle. So what do people think we have in this kid? Is pretty much everyone now convinced he can make it as a starter? If so, what is his ceiling? To me, if he can continue to improve the slider & curveball he has a chance at being a legit #2 starter. Also, I haven’t seen it mentioned here anywhere, but apparently Lopez was battling a stomach bug today and it was it was affecting him a bit. Got to give the kid props for five gutsy innings against a stacked lineup while under the weather.
  13. That Brett guy isn’t really a prospect so he can go at any time. I’m not opposed of rotating Booker, Fisher, & Polo across two OF spots. At some point they’ll need to bump up a couple of the W-S outfielders to AA to make room for Robert & Luis Gonzalez, so some of the more fringey prospects at AA or AAA will have to be casualties for the legit ones.
  14. And I could be wrong, but I don’t think Moncada was actually crying. I think he was simply pissed off and the “crying” claim was typical Gamethread BS.
  15. This is just a horrible take. Tim Anderson is weak minded cause a brother like figure was the victim of a senseless crime and lost his life? You must not have anyone you care for in this world, because losing a loved one to a tragedy will fuck most people up. There is nothing weak minded about that.
  16. Yeah, it’s his approach at the plate from what I’ve seen, just way too passive.
