Engel is the smart guess. Delmonico maybe a dark horse.

QUOTE (Username @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Yeah and they need to remain flexible for the monster 2018-19 free agent class. God forbid even if Q doesn't rebound and he's more in line with his peripherals (4.3ish FIP), he's still an extremely cheap #3/4. He's still almost top 30 in WAR for starters. Plenty of value for a team looking for payroll flexibility. Exactly. If I were Cashman, I'd much rather spend big on the 2018-19 free agent, in particular the positional guys, rather than spend big on the starters who will be available this coming offseason. If that requires trading some prospects away for a cost-controlled TOR starter then so be it. The new luxury tax is a legit hinderence to the traditional big spenders. They now have to be much more strategic on how they spend their money.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Apparently, according to Sherman's article, they are expecting to even be facing a 40-man crunch soon...so there is more reason for them to "cash-in," as you say. Yup, this is another reason why it makes sense.

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) I see that we are back to Q to the Yankees chatter. I remember back when these talks were going on in the Winter and people were saying how Aaron Judge wouldn't cut it as a headliner in any deal for Q. Oh my how things have changed... I don't see Cashman trading away his prospects. The Yanks are ahead of schedule. They will just buy pitching in the offseason. They want to come in below the luxury tax threshold next year, so buying quality starting pitching at market rates is going to be a challenge for them. Meanwhile, Quintana only comes with like a $5.2M charge next year for luxury tax purposes. There are a lot of reasons why they'd be willing to trade in their prospect currency for a starter like Q, who fits both short-term & long-term needs.

Who would you be most upset if the Sox traded them?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 05:13 AM) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/06/taki...-white-sox.html Detailed analysis of Sox trade worthy assets Frazier to NY, Boston Robertson to Nats Leury or Carlos SANCHEZ to play SS for Orioles with Hardy out (depends on offers, obviously) Quintana to Yankees Robertson/Swarzak to Nats Frazier to Red Sox Kahnle to Dodgers -
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 11:16 PM) Sherman suggests Clint Frazier, Chance Adams, Jorge Mateo, & Estevan Florial for Q. I'd make that deal in a heartbeat. Yeah, that's an absolute no brainer to me.
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) Avi for Reyes could make sense. Don't know if the Cardinals would offer much more. I would do trade in a heartbeat, but unfortunately the Cardinals probably wouldn't.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) It may be too late as his value has gone through the roof, but I'd offer him an 8 year $120 million extension. If he takes it, he's the centerpiece of our rebuild. If he doesn't, trade him if you can get a package as good (or better) as we got for Sale. You literally have nothing better to do than troll on Father's Day? Good god dude...

Father's Day Games (Lopez, Guerrero, no DSL)
Chicago White Sox replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) When you draft guys based on them being polished (Fisher, Collins, Burdi) and see them struggling like this, there's definitely reason for pessimism. Hansen has been great but is beyond ready for a higher level. Burdi was basically sent straight to AAA and is K'ing almost 14 per 9 innings this year. He had not given up a single HR prior to today. Control has been an issue, but his overall numbers are victimized by some bad luck. I'm not concerned in the slightest, he simply needs more development time. Collins has an .830 OPS despite his focus most likely being on the defensive side of the game. The contact is bad, but acceptable when he's walking 20% of the time and hitting for power. Even his BABIP is a little low. Regardless, right now it looks like he can stick at catcher which would be HUGE. Not sure how anyone could say he is struggling or view his season as a dissapoinment. Jameson Fisher has been a disappointment IMO, but he has not been struggling. He simply isn't dominating low A like he should. Meanwhile, you completely ignore Flores, Lambert, Hamilton, Morrison, Booker, Remillard, & Roman who are playing very well. That also doesn't include Call, Curbelo, & Hickman who are all TBDs. I'm not sure how anyone could be pessimistic about this draft unless they are expecting perfection. -

And while the periphials aren't great, Lopez has rebounded nicely all things considered. Luis Martinez also had a very nice today. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) I'm really surprised a good guy like you, a very very smart guy like you is into the rooting for losses thing. Saddens me. You are a brilliant guy and I'm surprised you haven't assessed, like me, the fact the draft is a fricking crapshoot and anything can happen in the draft and tanking is a very very cliche-ish, bad idea. I think if you study the issue completely the logical conclusion on the tanking issue is the one I hold.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Defense really screwing over Rey today. 3 errors so far. Was just about to post this, they've completely f***ed him today. -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) His BABIP will almost certainly fall but Avi's career BABIP is .333 so regressing it to the league average doesn't make sense. He can be a .340 BABIP guy, so going forward I think his numbers will still look decent if he can keep hitting for power. Exactly. His ISO is like .210 this year. If he keeps that up, he's still valuable even with a 50 point drop in BABIP. And that's not even including some positive regression with his BB rate which is abnormally low.

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) No one has really earned a promotion out of Charlotte. If these guys were lighting the world on fire you'd figure they'd get the call by now. At this point I'm starting to think if keeping these guys down until next May might not be bad idea. I'd be OK throwing a guy like Cooper out there before starting the service clocks on some of the higher profile arms. Lopez has been good since a rough start, I think he deserves a call-up as soon a long-term spot opens. Moncada could use a little more development time, but I can't envision any scnenario where we keep him down in AAA until May of next year. And once Frazier & Melky are gone, I'd definitely like to see Delmonico in the major league mix. Guys I could see keeping down in Charlotte until next year Giolito & Fulmer. And Burdi is another guy I'm ok taking it slow with. His control has been pretty bad and I see no reason to rush him at this point.

We're within 2 games of six teams. I fully expect us in the 3 to 5 range by seasons end. Philadelphia & San Diego are going to be the only teams hard to catch IMO.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) I don't know who Frorial is but I'd haggle over 3rd piece, maybe get some of their lat am prospects now turning 18. He's a former Latin signing who is currently 19 years old and playing very well in A Ball. Strong package of tools (speed/power/arm), walks at a decent clip for his age, and sounds like he can actually stick in CF long-term. He's got some swing & miss issues that are concerning, but his ceiling is very, very high. Reminds me of Basabe with more power but a bit less speed. IMO, these are the types of guys we should be targeting as secondary pieces with our best trade assets or as the primary pieces with our less valuable assets. This recent draft provided us with a ton of "baseball players" to provide depth to the system. Now's the time to sprinkle some athletes in as well.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 07:27 AM) If he had more of a track record and more than 2 years of control, I'd say keep him. But if a team offers you the value of his current level of production, trade in a heartbeat. Yeah, 100% this. I don't see anyone paying an All-Star price for Avi, but if they do you take it and run. But honestly, every day he keeps this up until the deadline, the more likely a team will come calling.

Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As
Chicago White Sox replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) Why do posters continue to dream up "packaging" this player with that player in trade, when this has not been Hahn's preference in word or in deed? I suppose anything's possible, but I don't recall him wanting to do things that way... Because the deadline is a different beast and teams are oftentimes looking to fill multiple holes in one deal if possible. And on occasion, teams have been able to successfully package a secondary piece to land a blue chip prospect (see the Shark trade to Oakland). While multi-player trades are far more complex and more difficult to complete, I do think packaging two relievers in a deal with the Nationals makes a ton of sense for both clubs. There will no doubt be other quality relievers on the market, but I doubt many teams will have three them available at once. We can differentiate ourselves as the one-stop for a team like the Nationals who need more than just a closer. That could go a long way towards us getting a quality return. -
Real talk, would you guys accept a Quintana for Frazier, Kraprielian, & Frorial deal? Are you willing to gamble on the 2nd major piece coming off Tommy John surgery? My heart says no, that it's too risky, but I'm not sure we can much better.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 06:22 AM) pplama7 hours ago I don’t see the Sox and Yanks coming together on a Quintana trade. Sox would want 2 of Frazier, Rutherford, Adams. The Yankees won’t give that up. If Mateo were performing well, he’d be a perfect secondary piece.. But he’s isn’t, and combining Rutherford with Fowler or Andujar won’t be enough for the Sox to bite. As a Yanks fan, I wouldn’t want them to get him if it cost any of the players you mentioned, besides Mateo which you mentioned as not being a real piece (I agree as far as a blue chip piece). Maybe Adams and Mateo with some other complementary pieces, but I don’t think that would get it done. And, I don’t think the Sox would, nor really should, accept an offer that doesn’t include at least one blue chip prospect. I just don’t think Quintana would be a great fit for the Yanks. He is a very good pitcher, and any team would be better with him on it, but I would rather the team hold onto those impact players for the future, especially in a year where he has looked rather mediocre, or for a player that I think would strive in NY. I think that the Astro’s are the best fit for him. He won’t feel like he needs to be the ace there, they have the prospects to get him (without sacrificing much of the future either since they have a great young core) and would increase their reputation as WS favorites significantly. Mlbtraderumors.com Quintana hovering just outside Top 30 in fWAR http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&page=2_30 I have no idea what's going on with this post. What's with the underlining and who is pplama7? Is this an opinion piece by mlbtraderumors or are they citing another source/article? If you could just learn to use the quote feature (it's literally clicking on a single button), your posts would be so much easier to digest.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) Feel pretty confident Archer goes to the Yankees for a huge package. Tanaka got bashed yet again. Wainwright got destroyed as well. Cards in interesting position with Cubs scuffling. You feel pretty confident that the Rays are going to trade Archer to their AL rivals? Why is that?

Chicago White Sox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) Honestly, trade everyone, as long as we get good value. For me, Avi, Kahnle, Swarzak and Rodon are the guys that have some upside left in them that I would be concerned about giving away. Abreu I think brings a lot of veteran leadership to a ballclub heavy on latin american assets, so I suppose he is the guy that I would keep around for reasons chalked up to "chemistry" or "intangibles." Swarzak is a free agent after this year, you take whatever you can get for him at the deadline. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) At the same time, here's what Jeff Sullivan said in his FanGraphs chat yesterday: which, yeah, I also completely agree with. Yeah, you don't hold onto relievers during a rebuild. First, they're too fickle performance-wise year to year and they almost always bring back a premium at the deadline. Second, if you're a pitching rich organization, you'll probably have plenty of arms to field a quality bullpen. In addition to Burdi, I feel pretty strongly that Fulmer & Stephens will end up in the pen along with a few other failed starters. Therefore, trade Robertson, Kahnle, & Swarzak this deadline if you can get quality returns. Jones potentially becomes a big trade piece in 2018. Cashing in on relievers is rebuilding 101 and I'm glad to see we're set up to do just that.
