White Sox will chase Jay Bruce
What's sad is we should have got Bruce right after LaRoche retired, but instead gave Avi one last opportunity. Now we'll have pay a much higher price if we want him, unless his defense limitations drive away suitors. Very frustrating we didn't address this need before the season, even if it was only an interim solution. And I get some posters are skeptical of Bruce, which is fair, but look around the league and see what else is available. There will be slim pickings in terms of left-handed bats and the costs will be high. The one plus to Bruce is the Reds might want us to take on his full salary and ultimately pay less in prospects. That's exactly the type of move we should be targeting right now.

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 07:16 AM) Would love Rutherfold if he's available. Very interested to see how how this Delvin Perez shakes out. Bad makeup, but might have the biggest ceiling in the whole draft. Watch the Cubs get Perez in the 3rd round (obviously kidding).

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) They should be getting their king's ransom for Sale, Eaton and Quintana. You trade those guys in the offseason when there are more suitors. Frazier, Melky, Robertson, & maybe Shields are guys you'd move now. Having said that, I'm not ready to sell.

Lawrie is a very frustrating player to watch when he goes cold.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) Is Purke still on the roster? Yes, but would you really bring him to face Harper?

And I just want to say I don't blame Robin for the pitching issues tonight. He had no choice but to pull Latos and Jennings probably made the most sense given the situation. Didn't work out, but the strategy was right.

Is it me it did it seem like Jackson didn't give 100% chasing down that ball?

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Abreu looking much better lately. Getting around on pitches much better lately. Definitely, first time I've felt optimistic about him in weeks.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Pitching depth is great, lets see what we got in Shields however. Fair enough, just think Shields will bring much more certainty/consistency than Latos & Gonzalez.

Nice at-bat A-jax!

And to think some posters thought we didn't need pitching right away. Thank god we got James Shields. Latos might not get more than one more start at this pace.

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) Hopefully it's something like Adderal and he drops to 26. 100% agree. Would be a phenomenal get as long he wasn't busted for PEDs.

6/6 Games
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 07:13 AM) Over his last 28 days, Adam Engel is hitting .310/.389/.480. That's pretty encouraging. Even if he can maintain a low .700s OPS, he provides a ton of value in his defense and base running. Is that including his A+ numbers?

Are Melky & Jackson back yet?

Sox (29-28) vs Nats (34-23)
Hopefully we see a better Latos tonight. With Gonzalez waiting in the wings, Mat has to be sharp if we wants to hold onto that rotation spot. I don't envision the coaching staff giving him a very long leash.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:52 AM) There are zero fans who expect James Shields to be an ace. Where do you get that? Yup, I'd be ecstatic if he could be a #3, with my expection that he'll be a #4. His days as an ace are long gone & most fans are already aware of this.

6/6 Games
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:28 AM) I think people are looking at Anderson's last 6 weeks instead of his whole season because he typically starts extremely slow. They are. Plus it's foolish to compare Anderson's full-season OPS to guys like Sanchez, Garcia, & Coats who are in their 2nd or 3rd AAA season, let alone ignore the obvious difference in tools.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) WAR, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Flashback to Chris Rock/Jackie Chan scene in Rush Hour. Isn't that Chris Tucker in Rush Hour?

**2016 TV Watercooler Thread**
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) If you haven't watched it already, Narcos on Netflix. It's about Pablo Escobar. The best part about the show is how it's narrated and how the story is presented. It's surreal that some of the things in the show actually happened in Colombia. Fantastic show. When will season 2 be available?

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Very good. An interesting was the stats professor discussing why WAR is so flawed especially for pitchers. He had an interesting take on it. One I hadn't thought of. Yeah, I was surprised to hear his view on WAR. While it's no doubt a great stat, it is ultimately flawed. Shields is a great example why too. His one horrific start brings his total value down significantly, but in reality that one start is contained to that day. He could give up a 100 runs in a given start and it would only be worth one loss, but would f*** up his WAR for the season no matter how well he pitched in all other games. While that's an extreme example, he only gave up 22 runs in his first 8 starts this year, while giving up 10 in his most recent. Those quality starts are worth more than 0.4 wins, even if you account for the one game he lost in epic fashion.
