Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
Chicago White Sox replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If what Rosenthal is saying is true, and he’s without question the best insider, then he’s likely telling teams that they need pay up or else he’s going to hold and pick up the option. Interesting this comes not longer after another insider claimed we had already been offered one top 10 prospect for Robert. -

Bluffing is a dangerous game to play as GM. If you don’t follow through with your claims, your reputation can be compromised in an instance. Feels like this one will go down to the wire regardless if opposing GMs already think Getz is full of s%*#. -

xwOBA reflects total expected offensive value similar to a wRC+. -

And yet somehow the slow, RH hitting 1B currently has a worse xwOBA than the rookie SS you criticize constantly 😉 -

Benintendi’s splits at DH are wild. Given he can’t play defense anymore and we refuse to use Teel / Quero at the same time, we might as well use him exclusively at DH against RHP and see how his numbers progress. -

In the minors…you are saying they should have starting working him at 3B more frequently before we was called up. -

Martin actually K’ing some guys is all I want to see from him. A K per 9 rate below 6.00 is not going to cut it in the long run. -
I think he’s far more likely to be part of an offseason trade, but probably needs to have a good August & September to improve his value.

The player being discussed is a slow, RH hitting 1B / DH who is currently posting -0.4 fWAR and currently has a lower xwOBA than the player you just called the “worst hitter in the sport over the past 2 calendar year”. -

Trying to get Sosa at-bats is probably a part of it, but don’t think Rojas has anything to do with it. Also, Colson could be an elite defensive 3B. And this isn’t intended to be a dig, but they also like Meidroth at SS much more than you do. Chase got high praise from his AAA teammates for his defense at SS last year. His value is way higher if he can stick at SS than forced to be a 2B. Right or wrong, I think that is a real factor here. Before the Crochet trade, there wasn’t really a threat for SS. -

His ability to stick at SS was questioned, not his long term ability to play 3B. They gave him pretty much every opportunity to get better at SS. 3B has always been the backup plan and one that shouldn’t have required an overly difficult transition. We also have no idea whatsoever on if he got reps at 3B during practice, both in the minors and at the major league level. They could have easily been working on this behinds the scenes. There is plenty of stuff rip the Sox on, but asking a guy to slide over from SS to 3B is super low on my areas of concern right now. -

These overreactions to a bad defensive game are crazy to me. We are rebuilding, not trying to make the last wild card spot. Unfortunately, young players are going to do dumb stuff and make mistakes. Such is part of the learning process. You don’t cut bait early on or change your plan because they have some defensive struggles in year 1. I also don’t think Colson splitting time at 3B in the majors is a sign of incompetence from a player development standpoint. If you feel that he should get the reps at SS over Meidroth, I am very much open to having that debate. But I think playing some 3B after years of playing SS is not an egregious ask. Yes, there are some differences, but this isn’t like when we threw Andrew Vaughn in the OF with zero experience. IMO, the shift should have almost zero bearing on the development of the rest of his game. As for Teel, it’s simply the “can’t play a catcher in a day game after catching a night game” BS. That being said, let’s not pretend this isn’t something every Sox manger has done in our lifetimes and many managers from other orgs do. The real issue is refusing to play Quero and Teel in the same game because of the “we can’t risk losing our DH in event of injury” BS. And even there, I’m willing to wait and see what happens post trade deadline. If Getz refuses to have them both play after the OF glut has been dealt with, then I will rip these guys to shreds for having such a dumb plan. -

I am not a fan of trading for Vientos and would prefer actual prospects, but come on, there are a lot of worse outcomes possible than getting him.
