  1. The article cites spotty StatCast metrics but his xERA is 3.95 or right around the middle of the pack due to strong barrel and ground ball rates. There are reasons to believe he can be a valuable SP moving forward, even if the the 2ish ERA is far from sustainable. A weak SP market would definitely help his value though.
  2. I understand the risks with Crawford, but I’d still easily roll the dice on him for Robert. He is 21.5 years old and has plenty of time to grow & adjust. I also think you are greatly underselling his physical skills. He’s a legit 70 grade runner, which is incredibly fast. He has far more raw power than Juan Pierre ever had. The tools are there to be a special player even if they haven’t materialized in the way we’d like to see yet. Candidly speaking, if he was hitting more line drives and running better routes, he’d be one of the top prospects in the game and completely off limits. I don’t think the Phillies would give him up for Robert, but that would be a HR trade for us right now. I would not trade Taylor for him though…would need something with a higher degree of confidence to move him right now.
  3. On a lesser note, our 3rd & 4th picks who were college OFs are basically missing their entire first full seasons. At least Bonemer and Antonacci have been hits so far.
  4. You 100% consider trading Taylor if you don’t feel he can stick as a SP. My only issue is I think he will gain significant value with an actual track record.
  5. Meidroth is fucking study. @fathom - You are going to be stuck with him for years to come 😁
  6. They should have said he had the runs or something.
  7. From a game theory perspective, why not show him sitting and make other potential buyers think a deal is close? I just don’t buy this groin thing…when did it happen? He actually finished out Wednesday’s night game. And hopefully they aren’t pushing him too hard on their days off. I call BS on all of that.
  8. I could see it. He’s probably more gettable than Clifford.
  9. I mean, they aren’t going to come out and say they’re close on a trade and they are sitting him. I’m sure this just the BS that Venable been asked to feed the press.
  10. He seemed healthy as of Thursday. Feels like we got a trade cookin’.
  11. I don’t think it’s a money thing. We’ll easily have the $20M, to me it’s the player and I’m sure Jerry doesn’t like the idea of paying Robert that much after these past two seasons.
  12. I’ll be honest, we have not done great on the pitching side of things. I’m far from giving up on Thorpe, but he’s a big wild card at the moment. Iriarte has been a massive disappointment. Gonzalez is walking like 7 per 9. Wilson is doing ok this season, but was DFAed to start the season. Gilbert & especially Booser haven’t really hit the mark. McGough and AHT both retired / disappeared. Rosado is walking more than he is striking out in AA. Berroa out with TJS. Don’t disagree with your notion, but I might have more faith in the org’s ability to find diamonds in the rough on the positional side of things at the moment. And that’s saying something I have been a huge Bannister Stan for the most part, but the lack of progress with some of these pitches has left a bad taste in my mouth.
  13. While I still think this is all posturing, I’m not totally against the notion if you can’t even get a 45 / 45+ FV positional headliner for him. Still would prefer moving him now though if the right offer comes in and I think it will.
  14. Arecena is a pretty legit prospect with some helium. Seems more than fair for a rental reliever that isn’t a closer.
  15. Coming back to the Mets, give me Ewing or Clifford as the headliner. Obviously very different players / profiles, but I’d like to come out of this deadline with one decent OF prospect even if they come with some warts. A CF would theoretically be ideal given the lack of them in the system, but power is an equally big org need and that is something Clifford would address. Either way, I prefer both of them to Gilbert and would be content with either as a centerpiece. Feel like Clifford might be more gettable than Ewing though.
  16. The lowest payroll in baseball is the Marlins at $67M. We basically have Benintendi and nothing else next year. I don’t think we even a single arb eligible player if we end up moving Wilson. As such, if using all pre-arb players, we’re looking at ~$35M to fill out a roster for next year. That would imply $32M of additions just to get to the bare minimum. And I believe our cash payroll this year is another $20M higher than that figure, so theoretically we’re looking $50M or so of additions just to maintain. I fully believe they will spend some money next year and given the amount of young options we have, it should be allocated across less players. I expect a veteran SP, some OF additions, maybe a DH, and a couple veteran relievers to be added.
  17. I mean, our payroll will be almost nothing next year. There will be room a couple decent additions even if Jerry is still getting his debts in order.
  18. Getz not having any flippable relievers of real value is frustrating
  19. Doesn’t seem like a bad return. Two top 20 prospects from a good farm system including one arm who was basically a 2nd round pick back in 2022. Seems ok for a rental 1B.
  20. I’d probably roll the dice on Clifford if my scouts thought he could stick in LF. We could use some power and he’s got plenty. He just turned 22 so plenty of time to fix the other issues with his offensive game. Less excited if he’s condemned to 1B.
