  1. Colas has legit star potential. I can’t express how fucking excited I am that he will be playing stateside next year.
  2. Am I wrong, but didn’t Bortles also get progressively worse under Hackett? And I don’t believe he calls plays right now for the Packers, so hard to give him too much credit.
  3. He’s got to be eager to get his professional career started here and I honestly think it’s a good bet for him. The quicker he can get to the show, the longer the leash they will give him at the major league level.
  4. Mitch was never going to be a high-end QB. It’s very clear the NFL was too fast for him and his decision-making would always be subpar. Let’s not let an Athletic article change our conviction there. He was a bust of a pick the day we drafted him, we obviously just didn’t know it at the time. Yes, Nagy did a terrible job coaching him and didn’t always adjust to Mitch’s strengths. I think it’s possible that Mitch could have developed into a slightly below average, but still somewhat competent starting QB with someone else in charge. Either way, it’s good that Nagy is gone because Fields needs a coach that will prioritize his development and adapt to his strengths.
  5. You interview now for several reasons. First, it shows a commitment to the high demand HC candidates while you’re searching for your GM. Second, it lets you get interviews out of the way with key leadership / ownership so the new GM can move swiftly once in place. As for the process, I’m not sure what makes this a failed process already or similar to what they’ve done in the past. Polian is a far better, more relevant football mind to lead this process than Ercosi was and so far (fingers crossed) they’re bringing in every major GM & HC possible, including many GM candidates I’d consider much more modern. Yes, George could still botch this, but so far I’m not sure there is much to b**** about when it comes to the process.
  6. I’d like see this go one of two ways and it’s all dependent on Harbaugh. If we can get Jim, then pair him up with Ireland as GM. If Jim is off the table, then go Smith or Dodds at GM and an offensive minded guy at HC. After Harbaugh, I think Roman would be my personal favorite for HC as he’s shown a willingness to adapt and has developed a young mobile QB into a total weapon. Hell, take a WR in one of the top two rounds (super deep class too) and we’d have very similar playmakers to what Roman has worked with in Baltimore.
  7. Dude did himself in with those QB sneaks this past week.
  8. Regarding the head coach position, sounds like five confirmed candidates so far and more surely will come: Doug Pederson (HC/OC) Brian Daboll (OC) Nathanial Hackett (OC) Leslie Frazier (HC/DC) Todd Bowles (HC/DC) From my perspective, all else being equal, I want an offensive-minded head coach. Simply put, I think there is much more risk replacing an OC than there is a DC, so stabilize the offense with a HC on that side of the ball. As such, the remaining guys I hope they pursue are Harbaugh, Roman, McDaniels, Leftwich, & Day.
  9. Reaching out to Rick Smith & Jeff Ireland is excellent news. No doubt it’s possible one of these less experienced candidates would be better, but I’m not sure I trust McCaskey to gauge that appropriately, even with Polian providing input.
  10. Which rookie QB was giving them a better chance to win this year than Wentz? If you say Mac Jones, I doubt you believed that before the season. The reality is the Colts had a win now team and needed a win now QB. And let’s not ignore the cost of moving up from the 21 spot in the draft to snag a QB. I just don’t think it’s as simple as you’re making it out to be.
  11. Who was the obvious QB they should have gotten instead of Wentz?
  12. Sounds like that is the immediate plan with a retirement shortly thereafter.
  13. Goodbye and good riddance!
  14. Easily our best group of left-handed hitting prospects I can remember in my lifetime.
  15. I’m a huge Ramos fan, but he’s exactly the type of talent a freshly rebuilding club like the A’s is going to seek. I feel like him and Rodriguez are the two prospects with the most trade value that are somewhat movable. I think holding him for another year would be better, but McNeil is a really nice fit for what we need, personality not withstanding.
  16. Bassitt just put up a 3.3 win season, McNeil is coming off a 0.5 win season. I certainly think McNeil will be better in 2022 than he showed last year, but he won’t be valued the same as his 2018 to 2020 version and 2B’s are typically worth less than WAR models suggest. And again, the clubhouse issues are real. A guy who refuses to shift as instructed and gets in fights with teammates over it is a legit problem. I really don’t think the value gap is as big as you think it is, but obviously just my opinion.
  17. I guess it depends on how highly the A’s view those three prospects. Our system is obviously amongst the worst in baseball, but those three guys represent our 5th, 9th, and I’m guessing 11th or 12th ranked prospects per BA. That’s not a bad haul for one year of Bassitt if your scouts like the kids and the A’s did very well with a previous quantity of quality trade with us. I also tend to think McNeil will go for a little less than many are expecting. The clubhouse concerns are legit and something the Mets will want to avoid if reasonable value can be had. That will also be factored into his price along with a tough 2021 season. I don’t expect him to be cheap, but I think there will be a substantial discount relative what it would have cost to acquire him coming off his 2020 season and without known attitude problems.
  18. Three way trade with A’s & Mets…who says no? White Sox: Give: Rodriguez, Ramos, & Burke Get: McNeil Mets: Give: McNeil Get: Bassitt A’s: Give: Bassitt Get: Rodriguez, Ramos, & Burke
  19. Did you miss 2020 was a shortened season due to COVID? Cause no idea how anyone could think “only 1.5 WAR in 52 games” is somehow bad.
  20. I’m 37 and first joined in 2004. I withdrew for a period of time after a couple of internet tough guys here gave me shit for having a picture of Eazy-E wearing in his Sox hat in my signature despite being from the north suburbs. Amidst the 2005 late season collapse, I posted why I was optimistic about our chances and apparently a couple pussies here got triggered by my positivity and the notion of a north side kid liking rap music. Between that and the general negativity at the time, I pretty much stopped posting. Rejoined in 2008 under a new handle and have loved it ever since. The site has become one of the best fan communities on the internet and it’s amazing to see the diverse group of people who post here. Kudos goes out to the mod team for allowing people to disagree with the more popular opinions and occasionally say stupid / aggressive shit without fear of unfair long-term repercussions.
  21. So Manfred isn’t negotiating a new CBA with the players but is instead firing an analyst on the MLB Network for criticizing in a separate outlet. Glad he has his priorities straight!
  22. Vaughn is worth considerably more than one year of Bassitt.
