NFL 2021 offseason thread

100% agree. Look at what the 49ers gave up for Lance compared to what we had to give up for Fields. I get the future 1st with the Bears is more attractive than the 49er’s firsts, but outside of that it’s mostly filler. And we still have our 2nd & 3rd round picks this year and can hopefully get Fields some protection and another weapon. -

Wow...Panthers pass on Fields & Mac. Broncos the last threat before the Patriots or another team trading up. -

Here is where things get interesting. The Lions want to deal this pick I imagine. -

That’s a great point, but his hits have almost always been been 1st round picks though. I feel like it’s pretty much consensus that Mond is a 2nd round pick type talent. -

Fully agree on the dart throw nature of drafting QBs. While early, Herbert performed the best out of the big three last year. Josh Allen has been better than Mayfield & Darnold. And obviously Mahomes & Watson have blown Mitch out the water and were absolute steals at #12 & #10 respectively. To me, if I can get one of Fields or Lance for a future 1st and a couple 3rds, I’m 100% going down that path. Lets you rock with them for the 2021 & 2022 seasons and either they’re a hit or hopefully you’re looking a very high pick come 2023. Either way, you need to keep taking bites at the apple when opportunities present themselves and both Fields & Lance are too talented to pass up on if the price is reasonable. Otherwise, load up on assets and hope an option presents itself next year. -

Since 2000, no more than 7 QBs have been drafted in the first three rounds. If we can’t find a way to trade up for Fields/Lance, then we should trade down in the 1st and accumulate more draft capital. One of Mond/Mills/Trask should be there in the 4th and if not I’d simply take a stab on Jamie Newman. Should be tons of good OT & WR talent into the 3rd and we should be addressing those spots along with CB before taking a lottery ticket QB prospect. -

Fully agree with this take. Really worried Pace burns a 2nd rounder on a guy like Mond. Either swing for the fences with Fields / Lance or load up on OT / WR / CB talent with your first three picks. Hopefully they go with the former and are still able to land help at two of those other three spots in the 2nd or 3rd. -

If the 49ers select Mac Jones, it’s going to be very interesting to see what happens between picks 4 & 7. My guess is ATL takes Pitts, CIN takes Chase, & MIA takes Waddle or Smith. Those are elite talents that will be hard to pass up, although I could see MIA trying to trade down a few spots and grabbing whichever Bama WR is left. Either way, the Lions are the huge wild card and will have a ton of power if they want accumulate additional draft capital. If the board shakes out this way, they’d have their choice of the best OT in Sewell, Waddle or Smith at WR, or could simply trade down for a haul. Given that this draft is loaded at both OT & WR, trading down makes a ton of sense for them, but they’re going to want a huge return if they’re passing on elite talents at positions of need. With CAR & DEN both theoretically threats to draft QBs at #8 & #9, trading up for the #7 pick really seems like the sweet spot if you want your choice of Fields or Lance. What would that cost the Bears though? Is #20 & #83 plus a 2022 1st & 3rd enough for the Lions to trade within the division? Would NE or WFT actually offer more than that? Given what the 49ers paid to move up to #3 that would be a steal IMO. If too hefty of a price, you can hope that one of the QBs slips past CAR & DEN and that someone in the #11 to #14 range is willing to move back to #20. Even then I think it costs us our 2022 1st rounder, but that’s a price worth paying IMO and perhaps it allows you to hold onto the #83 pick. Regardless, Pace needs to be ready to pounce tonight if the right trade partner expresses a willingness to trade down and the price isn’t overly ridiculous. I really think it might be doable too, I’m just concerned that Pace will prioritize a win now piece with his 1st rounder (OT or WR) given he’s on the hot seat and will settle on a QB prospect in the 2nd or 3rd. And that’s going to be very frustrating to see if one of NE or WFT ends up being able to trade up for a potential franchise QB at a somewhat reasonable price. -

Fully understood and 100% I agree crossed the line. It will not happen again and apologize for the mods having to deal with the fallout.

Clearly being from my perspective. Given this is a message board, I don’t expect people to take it any other way than it’s written. That being said, I can say with absolute certainty that I don’t actually wish ill will on Tony La Russa over his in-game decision-making and if you knew me outside of Soxtalk you’d agree with that notion. Unfortunately I made a joke in very bad taste and it’s 100% fair to be criticized for it. No other way around it.

I apologize for the comment in the game-thread last night and clearly don’t wish anyone ill will over baseball. It was simply tasteless joke driven by the moment, but alas it went too far and definitely missed the mark. Again, apologies if I offended anyone.

His velocity & command fading last night are somehow Grandal’s fault?
-
Sure, everyone’s instincts are wrong at times, but it’s pretty easy to tell a guy is gassed out while watching both his velocity & command quickly erode. Given we had a well rested pen, there was zero reason to go to the bullpen in a tight game and maximize our chances of winning. This is about as black & white as it gets and I’m not sure why you’re defending La Russa in this situation. He 100% failed at his job last night.

Never doubt the slap factory! Hamilton’s .247 career BA against RHP and Leury’s .240 make it pretty obvious they would have come through. That’s almost a 50/50 chance if you add them up!
