The question is who can absorb money at the deadline. Sox coming into the season with a bottom 5 payroll but seeing attendance well above expectations may give us more financial ammo to play with than many other teams. That could help us tremendously when it comes to Sonny Gray.

I fully agree. That’s probably the most obvious move.

Thinking through this more, I think we need one SP and one or two relievers, including at minimum someone who could slot into the closer spot. I will continue to shout Gray’s name for the SP spot. A top three of Martin, Gray, & Burke is good enough in a season like this. Schultz as the #4 starter is fine if healthy. Kay isn’t good, but is competent as the #5 for now. Ideally one of Shane Smith, McDougal, Sandlin, Hagen Smith, or Adams can knock him out of the rotation with time. Some of the others can eventually reinforce the bullpen. No thoughts on a specific closer option, but we definitely need someone who can slot into the 9th if we want flexibility to use Taylor in earlier, high leverage innings. Hudson & Newcomb are your other high leverage guys. Dominguez can be a middle relief guy. Need three more relievers from the pool above, the various AAA arms, and possibly trade. But really don’t see an internal option for the 9th that we would feel good about.

Attendance was nice, but parking & concessions were a mess. It’s crazy to me they can’t handle a big crowd.

Is Peoples a better option than Pallette or Iriarte?

This bullpen is a major fucking problem…maybe even more so than the rotation. Taylor, Hudson, & Newcomb are all studs, but after that it’s a bunch of question marks. And we aren’t going to last very long if we only have three relievers we can rely on. Changes are needed and well before the trade deadline. As such, what internal options do we have to help fix this problem? There is a massive roster crunch coming at some point, which definitely adds some complexity. That being said, do Pallette or Iriarte move the needle? Sandlin makes some sense at well, but will they punt his development as a SP? Would they try Mason Adams out of the pen? After, it’s a bit of slim pickings until Wikelman and some of the TJS guys make their way back. If it’s me, I give Sandlin one more start with the Sox while Schutz is out and then move him into a bullpen role. I’d also look into getting Mason on this pitching staff in some form sometime soon. Pallette & Iriarte need maintain their performance a bit longer in AAA before I add them to the 40 man. Still not enough, but hopefully it would allow us to get rid of a couple of the bad AAAA lefties currently occupying the active roster.

You can 100% think the magic wand is stupid and that PCA is good. But when you go into the MLB Catch-all thread on a White Sox forum and constantly post about PCA and then call out his “haters”, it does raise some questions.
