This is great news. Now we just need an update on the TJS guys. Still blown away at how bad rehab has gone for those guys so far. I was really hopeful that Thorpe, Bush, & Berroa could have been part of the 2H mix, but it’s looking more & more likely we may two whole seasons from them, at least from a major league roster perspective.

What is the recovery time from a concussion? Feel like in the NFL guys miss one or two weeks max. I can’t imagine he’s too far off, although candidly I didn’t see the play and don’t know bad it was.

His FIP & xERA are significantly higher, but reasonable for a #5. I just don’t think he’s ever going to give you a lot of innings and is benefiting from the use of an opener. And both of those factors hurt a very short bullpen.

Jerry doesn’t have much time left. He’ll push the profit from better than expected attendance back into the team. I just hope the Red Sox want to dump Gray for cash savings instead of prospects.

Interesting wrinkle in the Sonny Gray sweepstakes. He has a full No Trade clause but has expressed an openness to potentially forgoe it. Location is key to him apparently and that could give certain clubs an advantage. He’s based in Nashville, which is a very short flight from Chicago. Outside of the Braves, we may have a geographic edge over most other competitors. And when you combine his NTC and his financial obligations, his market & cost might be much smaller than one thinks. He’s also ineligible for a qualifying offer, so the Red Sox will be motivated to move him. He may not be the sexiest option, but if the price is right, he could be the ideal bridge to a more impactful free agent SP next offseason. Getz needs to make this happen!

Update: Teel & Hicks have moved off of the IL. Pereira has been added to the 7 day IL with a concussion. It’s now been 10 days since Everson first went on the IL, so you’d think he’d be back fairly soon, but haven’t seen any official updates on him just yet. Schultz should be back with the major league club next week. Murakami progressing well and getting closer to game action. The big question there is will he go on a rehab assignment or not and if so for how long. On the AAA front, Gonzalez now has two appearances in High A with 4 K’s, 0 BB’s, & 0 R’s over 2.1 innings. He should be in AAA soon and could be a bullpen option for the White Sox sometime after the All-Star break. Adams has now made three starts for AAA and has been excellent posting a 1.93 ERA over 14 IP with 16K’s, 3 BB’s, 10 H’s, and a sub 1 WHIP. He’s a legit threat for Fedde’s rotation spot although would require us opening up a 40 man spot. Yeah, no problem with the bunt call in that particular situation.

I’ve generally been a Venable defender outside of the bunting, but that pinch hit decision was perplexing. We just needed to put the ball in play and decided to pinch hit with a guy who was striking out 35% of the time in AAA. And there was no doubt the Royals would bring in a RHP to face him. I would have just left Peters in there.
