  1. I think it will leak out as soon as MLB approves the sale. Right now everyone is under a NDA and once it’s official there will be too many stakeholders (Ishbia, Reinsdorf’s, minority owners who sold, MLB employeee, bankers, etc.) for the news not come out quickly. Just not sure how long that approval process is.
  2. He didn’t have a single called strike yesterday. Obviously it’s just one start, but if command is going to be a near-term issue for him then maybe start him off in the bullpen and reconsider things down the road.
  3. The only caveat there is Thorpe didn’t pitch in AAA, so it’s possible they give him a bit more seasoning there if someone takes the fifth starter role and runs with it. That’s far more likely if it’s an actual prospect with upside than a swingman type. I don’t foresee that happening, but it’s possible nonetheless. I also don’t think the main five guys (Thorpe being one of them) are guaranteed roles until July. If guys don’t perform come May / June, I expect Iriarte, Adams, Nastrini, etc. to be challenging them for their starts. It’s absolutely critical this season to figure out who we think can slot into the two or three rotation spots alongside Schultz, Smith, & hopefully Taylor, who can likely hold down bullpen spots, and who should be traded to address other areas. I don’t want to it to be a complete revolving door, but we also have to let the best of the best get the shots because those will be much harder to come by next year.
  4. Justin owns the PE firm, but just not sure what tray is implying by bringing this fact up. First, I don’t know what bringing a “private equity” mindset to sports ownership even means. Ishbia is going to rip the org to the seams, somehow increase its value, and then dump it for a big gain? Beyond that, him and his brother already have a track record of being quality owners of the Suns by spending big and trying to bring down the cost of the fan experience, which is the opposite of how a PE firm would manage things. Finally, Justin is a huge baseball fan and it’s very clear he’s in it for the long haul, which again goes against PE principles. Tray’s comment just doesn’t make any sense, but alas he is the same dude claiming Related brainwashed Jerry into going to Springfield to sell the 78 deal so maybe best to ignore his rumblings altogether.
  5. Any particular reason you think it will be him?
  6. I’d love to see Nastrini snag it. He was a top 115 prospect at BA a year ago and he’d be a much more fun follow than either Gilbert or Wilson. But this job may be incredibly short-term with Thorpe coming back in the not too distant future, which would potentially give an edge to the swingman types in Gilbert & Wilson.
  7. I have literally read this post 10 times I have no idea what you’re trying to get at here. Clearly you hate Private Equity, that’s abundantly clear, but what that has to do with Ishbia owning the White Sox is beyond me.
  8. So who are we thinking will open the season as the 5th starter? I got Davis, Cannon, Perez, & Burke as locks. That leaves the following as options: Bryse Wilson Shane Smith Jario Iriarte Nick Nastrini Tyler Gilbert Mason Adams I’ve been thinking Wilson would be a gimme all spring with Thorpe out, but now I’m starting to think that someone else could snag this role. As much as I’d like to see an actual kid grab that spot, I have a weird feeling that Gilbert somehow ends up the victor. Just feels like Smith profiles better as a multi-inning reliever and Iriarte & Adams could probably use more time in AAA. Nastrini is a little bit of a wild card here and his Statcast numbers yesterday were pretty decent. I could see him making a case for some sort of Opening Day role. But right now, my money would be Wilson or Gilbert and I’m sort of leaning towards the lefty given we actually went out and traded for him.
  9. Seems like they should trade some of these guys for Robert.
  10. It’s refreshing to see a GM who actually values plate discipline, good swing decisions, and high OBP’s. That’s the one common theme of the majority of the prospects Chris has acquired. And while we certainty need power and guys who can impact the baseball, at least high OBP can provide a reasonable floor as a starting point.
  11. I wasn’t able to watch this game, but love seeing the box score.
  12. I don’t remember scouting reports saying he threw this hard. How do his secondaries look?
  13. Is this a serious post? Please tell me you aren’t this sensitive.
  14. I’m sure he did but not as blatantly stupid as Trump does. Remind me about those tariffs that were supposed to be implemented…
  15. Why do we care? Not sure how that’s relevant to the topic at hand. If Getz doesn’t believe in Canario like 28 other GMs, then he shouldn’t give up assets for him. He’s the GM…it’s really that simple.
  16. If they lose 120 games again you and everyone else will have their pitchforks and torches ready to go. You keep ignoring that no credible GM is going to hand 600 plate appearances to a player they don’t believe in simply because they are young. And it’s very clear Getz doesn’t believe in Canario or he would have offered something more than cash for him. And beyond the job security element that you don’t want to acknowledge, there is some value in having a few spots in the lineup with higher floor veterans. Again, I too would prefer a younger player get the opportunity in RF, but there isn’t anyone worthy of the job. A Tauchman/Slater platoon is a perfectly fine cheap placeholder until something better presents itself.
  17. They could and they will be cut if they struggle. But until someone actually forces the issue, you might as well throw them out there and hope they can provide league average production on the cheap. Unfortunately we don’t have any OF prospects in the upper minors who look like they are even replacement level.
  18. Getting 2 wins out of RF vs. the -2 we got last year would certainly be a good start in avoiding that.
  19. Losing 120 games again would also be stupid if you’re Chris Getz
  20. 3pm would likely be after the sale deadline…I believe it to mean something
  21. There is no way the drop in payroll has been shifted to infrastructure. A small amount sure, but the general decrease is driven by a reduction in revenue and not capital allocation.
