COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I literally have no fucking clue what you are arguing in this thread. But let me say this, dining indoors should not be allowed, whether it’s currently a rule or not. That should not be up for debate whatsoever and before you say “what about all the poor restaurant owners and their employees” that falls on the government to provide them with the necessary financial support to get through this pandemic. If our government could just take care of those most impacted by COVID (like the restaurant industry) and ban all non-critical activities that greatly increase one’s exposure to COVID (like dining indoors) we’d suddenly have thousands more people are alive. It’s really that fucking simple.

Callis prospect report from ATS
Ian Clarkin was a major let-down as the 2nd piece.

Offseason Targets
Longenhagen probably got some bad intel when Colas’ body went the wrong way. He’s back in elite shape with elite speed, power, & arm who has had success at various levels of Cuban & Japanese baseball at a very young age. To think he’s a 35 FV grade prospect is just laughable.

Offseason Targets
You’re right buddy, Fangraphs is never wrong, just like when they had Luis Robert graded as a 55 FV prospect prior to this season and still only have him as a 60 FV guy. But hey, if you actually think Oscar Colas is the same caliber prospect as Luis Mieses then god bless you!

Offseason Targets
I can tell you Fangraphs is way off with that valuation.

Offseason Targets
I’m not saying he will 100% be the guy, but my guess is the Sox sign him with every intention of him being our starting RF in 2022. And IMO, that means they won’t purposely block him with an expensive, multi-year addition this offseason.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I waited for 3 1/2 hours at the DMV this morning to get my Tennessee driver’s license and voter registration in order. Basically lost a half day of work at the worst time of year for me, but it was worth every waking second knowing I’ll be able to vote against this fucking clown in a red state.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I meant someone directly tied to this recent outbreak, but maybe that’s not enough.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I’m afraid it’s going to take someone in his camp dying for his base to realize just dumb these actions are.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
This may be the dumbest, most dangerous tweet in his whole presidency. Anyone who voted for this idiot con-artist should be embarrassed for the rest of their lives.

Fire Ricky
It is kind of interesting.

Offseason Targets
Because we’d be completely fucked financially if we traded three cost controlled guys projected to be above average regulars for two dudes making ~$50M/year.

Offseason Targets
Unless Uncle Jerry is planning $200M+ payrolls long-term, Harper isn’t happening even if the Phillies would just give us his contract. I’ll keep saying it, but I think Oscar Colas is the name people need to peg for RF starting in 2022.
-
Right Field
And if/when that doesn’t work, what’s our fall-back plan? The reality is they’re going to add a different RF because they can’t risk rolling the dice on Mazara when he’s entering his last year of team control.

July 2nd Latest from Futuresox & our James
Unless they have traded for more, the Rays should a bonus pool of $6.4M. Sounds like they already have two major signings in place for somewhere around $5.0M plus a couple lesser signings (not sure if they will count against the pool or not). Regardless, seems like they would be hard pressed to sign Colas for much more than $1.0M to $1.4M and I believe Jimmy has pointed out we should have $2M+ to work with.

Offseason Targets
Abreu & Eloy were both awesome against RHP, while Grandal was above league average. If you add a guy who can hit righties in RF and Yoan returns to form we should be fine.

Will the Front Office Fire Renteria?
How were the results better than the true talent of the team?

Will the Front Office Fire Renteria?
This is all fair, but I feel like we’ve typically avoided lame-duck managers in the past. If they’re sure Ricky is their guy, then he’ll likely be extended this offseason. If not, I think that signals there is real concern with him.

Fire Ricky
I’ll say this, if the Sox move on from Ricky this year it will be because there is some external option they really like and have confidence they can land. They won’t fire Ricky just to start an open-ended hiring process.
-
Fire Ricky
Seems like Ricky might be on the hot seat more than people realize based on that interview. I also didn’t realize that Ricky only had a year left on his contract.

Fire Ricky
Why is that?

Offseason Targets
One thing I think worth reiterating is our young core is going to continue getting more and more expensive in the coming years. So while we should have payroll flexibility in the near term, we do need to find some spots where we can go cheap to help offset future rising costs. I keep seeing people saying let’s trade for Conforto, Yelich, Harper, etc. and those deals are highly unlikely IMO. I truly believe the Sox will sign one of Oscar Colas or Yoelkis Cespedes to be the long-term answer to RF this winter. With a lineup a lineup that should be amongst the best in baseball come the 2022 season, we can afford to go with a young RF in the 8th spot and not impact our ability to compete. Getting a one year stop-gap like Joc or Brantley makes way more sense than taking on a massive contract that will prevent us from filling other holes. IMO, if we have the ability to add one impact free agent or take on a big contract this offseason, it should definitely be for a TOR starter. If this post season showed us anything it’s that we are at least one arm short in our rotation and can’t afford to rely on all three of Kopech, Cease, & Dunning at the same time. Go fairly cheap with RF, get creative with the bullpen, and spend your financial resources on the rotation.

There is zero chance the Giants would accept that deal for Yas. He may be 30 years old, but he’s coming off a monster season and is controllable for five more seasons. The Giants may move him, but they’ll be looking for top 100 talent and not C tier prospects.

Sox should replace Renteria with Ozzie Guillen

And I would totally be open to Brantley, but have no idea if he has the arm for RF though. He has barely played there during career.
