I honestly struggle with who should be demoted. I had been saying Acuna for a while, but I kind of feel like we are exposed a bit right now against LHP. As such, I may swap out Rikuu for Periera. This is a good opportunity to give Pereira some run against both LHP & RHP and see how he does.

I said it in the other thread, but don’t think Jerry has any real influence on draft picks. This will 100% be Getz & Shirley’s decision, although they will certainly listen to their top advisors. All that being said, I remain convinced they will take Roch. IMO, a great draft class would be college positional player at 1.01, two or three high ceiling preps (including Thome), and a bunch of college arms. Not sure what the depth and quality of the latter, but this org badly needs to add another wave of pitching in the low minors and I feel it’s easier to find interesting college arms in the mid ti late rounds than it is prep pitching and positional guys in general.

The latter is very true. A 59% groundball rate is a problem that needs to be addressed before he gets the call IMO. We don’t need to call up a rookie who has to make adjustments to get the ball into the air more all while adapting to major league pitching. Don’t see how that’s going to help us anytime soon.

They don’t want to call-up Braden because he’s better than the current major league incumbent, they want to call him up when they feel his development is complete. His xwOBA is only in the 65th percentile amongst AAA players and his power numbers in AAA are down considerably despite his home park. His contact rate has been way better as of late, but his power hasn’t been materially different. I still think July is the likely ETA for Braden.

I seriously doubt Jerry has any real influence on the draft. And Tony may share his thoughts, but he is just one voice in a broader decision-making group. This pick will come down to Getz & Shirley’s views on the top players.

How do the Sox feel about him exactly? You honestly think they feel he isn’t a high end defensive SS because they play him at 3B some? If not, why do you think they keep doing this? Do they just like playing guys out of their optimized spots for fun? You must have some theory on the why behind this malpractice. Also, several cracks in your post. Colson definitely does NOT have the best range amongst SS’s per Statcast. Witt’s OAA is more than double Colson’s and is hands down the best. And while I do think Colson is a tremendous defensive SS, it’s funny that you ignore DRS where he’s currently at -1. Most importantly, Colson has also been elite at 3B, which is part of the reason his OAA is in the 100th percentile (that isn’t just SS). SSS, but when adjusted for playing time, his 3B defenses would amongst the very best by both OAA/FRV & DRS. If you compare Colson’s fWAR per PA, it’s nearly identical between SS & 3B right now (and that’s using Statcast defensive data). As such, from a total value consideration, when Vargas or Murakami needs a day off, the question becomes who is the best backup at SS or 3B since Colson can provide high value at both spots. And it’s very clear they don’t love their other 3B options from a defensive standpoint, which is why we’ve seen Colson shift to 3B in such scenarios. So Venable isn’t really an idiot, but trying to optimize the roster as currently constructed. When Murray was on the bench, Venable kept Colson at SS when Vargas or Murakami needed time off and would play Tanner at 3B. I will not defend the relentless bunting as I find it to be incredibly stupid, but I refuse to be upset about a manager rotating around a guy between two spots he’s extremely good at defensively to optimize the broader lineup.

Least conviction <> mean the player is ready to implode. I simply have more conviction in Murakami, Colson, & Vargas to be star, 5+ win players and for Meidroth, Antonacci, Teel, & Braden to be above average, 3+ win players. Peters is basically playing at a 4 win pace despite being a strong side platoon CF. Obviously defense plays a big part of that, but his wOBA is beating his xwOBA by 50 points thanks in large part to a .363 BABIP. Yes, he is a very fast player and might be able to outproduce his xwOBA some, but it’s extremely doubtful by that much and his minor league history doesn’t support a BABIP at this level. Regression is very likely coming, the question is simply how much. If the two figures converge, Peters probably falls to a 1.5 win platoon player. As I mentioned previously, that still works if the rest of the lineup is strong, but does not prevent you from considering long-term upgrades. For now, I’m good waiting and seeing what we have in the player. His CF defense has been a welcome surprise and early indicators suggest its legit plus, but I’m not declaring him the long-term CF based on two months of results.

Because of negative contributors like Acuna and Kelenic. If everyone were healthy, this OF would be passable. Braden coming up and actually helping against RHP would help a ton though.
