  1. A league average hitter at 1B is a bust for a top 5 pick.
  2. The problem is he only has a year left after this, so even if he’s “fixed” by Fuller he’s a limited player with limited team control. Just another reason why playing the service time manipulation game is so important, even if will likely cause the clubhouse to implode per Balta.
  3. I will say that at least Getz is trying to make real changes and break up the insular nature of the org. He may ultimately fail in that regard, but bringing in new voices and ideas was a must for whoever was taking over.
  4. To be fair, the question he was asked was about signing a “$100M free agent”, Getz didn’t offer it up and imply some sort of cap.
  5. Orlando needs to step up his game. He’s had some really bad fake rumors this offseason.
  6. People were talking about not signing free agents who could block Schultz & Smtih?
  7. Yes it was. So was playing Sheets out there. Crazy that they went all in on the “let’s play our 1B in the OF” strategy.
  8. And to be fair, Eloy may have felt he was taken advantage of, but there is zero evidence to suggest that his beef with the front office caused any riffs in the clubhouse. That’s absolutely fan fic and I’m blown away anyone would even try to make such a ridiculous claim.
  9. And that was due to inconsistent service time manipulation? Grandal, Lynn, Kelly, & Graveman were clubhouse cancers because the young players were treated differently and that unfairness really riled them up and caused them to be assholes?
  10. Oh s%*#, how crazy is it that LatAm guys who speak Spanish all hang out with each other. And I don’t recall anyone “hating” each other outside the handful of players I mentioned along with Hendriks for his loud political views.
  11. So your theory is what exactly? Eloy secretly brainwashed Grandal, Tim, Lynn, Graveman, & Kelly to be clubhouse cancers to enact revenge on the team?
  12. Eloy and Robert got massive fucking extensions. And for Eloy, he came out well ahead of what he would made otherwise. And neither player has been known to be involved in any sort of clubhouse altercations. But yes, both purposely got injured on a regular basis because they thought getting paid millions before reaching the majors was unfair relative to Vaughn who got nothing and is now set to cash in free agency without that service time manipulation burdening him. I’m sure back in spring training 2021, Eloy was thinking “f*** that evil front office for forcing millions on me…I’m going to shred my pectoral on this fly ball to show them what’s what!”.
  13. That has to the most outlandish theory I have heard on this site in my 20+ years of posting here.
  14. I’m sorry, are you seriously trying to blame inconsistent service time manipulation as a key reason for prospects busting and clubhouse infighting? Like please provide a single example of where this somehow contributed to any of these issues.
  15. It’s amazing how you can literally make up talking points that aren’t based on reality. Like who has said any of these things? And I have no idea how you read Balta’s post and jumped to this strand of thought.
  16. I literally have no idea what you’re referring to in the second paragraph, but not playing the service time game is insane balls. We’re talking about like two or three weeks, it’s negligence to not play that game for big prospects unless you think they are a legitimate ROY threat right of the gate. And it’s not like Colson has forced the issue…there is literary no rational whatsoever for starting him on the OD roster, especially when aren’t trying to win.
  17. Skipping the entire upper minors and then being forced to play a position you never played before may be a poor developmental strategy.
  18. Yeah, that $14M could be put to better use. Unfortunately, Getz believes the 5th time will be the charm in terms of Vaughn figuring out how to hit major league pitching.
  19. So who gets DFAed as a result of this move? Scholtens is not a good SP, but he has options and there is value in having a guy like that who can be called up on a whim with no concern for their well-being or development. Murfee and Colas are the two who seem mostly likely to me, although with only 16 positional players on the 40 man now my guess will be Murfee.
  20. I agree, I would have preferred a SS addition to one at 3B / 2B. Perhaps he just saw too much value in Rajos at $3.5M. I just hope we don’t put Montgomery on the OD roster as a result. We need to extend out service time windows where possible and a strong AFL should not override a not great AAA season.
  21. Baldwin primarily played SS last year at Birmingham, Meidroth made the most starts at SS last year for Worcester, and Sosa has tons of experience at SS in the minors. I think we can get by for a month or two with those three covering SS.
  22. I’ve been assuming Baldwin at SS and Sosa at 2B with Amaya the main backup IF and Meidroth starting off at AAA. With Amaya gone, that obviously opens up the door for Chase for an OD role. I agree, I think we need to see what we have in Sosa and I’d like to see him get a real look to open the year. A month or two in AAA makes all the sense in the world for multiple reasons..
  23. And they are all guys with options who can be sent to AAA. The issue with Perez is he automatically eats up a 26 man roster spot and doesn’t offer much flip potential. I’m not losing sleep over signing him, but he’s definitely not the guy I would spend my limited budget dollars on.
  24. Prelander Berrora was the main piece we got back in the Gregory Santos traded…he’s a legitimate prospect with tremendous stuff.
  25. I’m with you. I get the “you can never have enough pitching” mantra but we have a ton of young arms on the cusp and aren’t really trying to win next year. As such, you can always find some AAAA arms to give innings to if guys aren’t ready or in the event of lots of injuries.
