Bold predictions for today: Lopez goes six innings with 8 K, 2 BB, & 1 ER Tim Anderson goes 2/4 with a HR and a SB Eloy gets his first big league hit and it will be a double

The rookie league guys will be fun to follow. I really hope Mieses takes a big step forward this year as it sounds like he has some exciting tools.

Those guys will be cleared out as the AA guys prove they’re ready for the next test. Basabe already has 270 plate appearances under his belt at AA and will likely move up fairly quickly as long as he doesn’t struggle coming back from his injury. Luis Gonzalez could force a promotion with a strong 1st half. Hell, even Adolfo has a decent shot at AAA this year given this represents his second option year. Having said all that, none of these guys (or Blake) are ready for AAA just yet.

Looking at the prospects beyond the big six, it really seems like organizational filler at the full season levels. The one guy somewhat interesting is Frost and he’s on the old side with some swing & miss issues. At least the power looks legit and separates him from the rest of the pack IMO. Also, it would be nice if three of the HS / LatAm guys in extended could force their way to Kannapolis next year. Weaver and Comas both had nice seasons, Mieses, Guerrero, & Coronado not so much. It’s really too bad we don’t have another rookie ball team, because the latter two guys didn’t play much at all last year.

Figured I’d do one more of these for the outfield given our all our prospect depth in this area. What statistics have you shown? Until you show me the average age of top 200 prospects by level (or something similar) there is nothing to dismiss because your sample is littered with organizational filler that has zero trade value. And plenty of people / publications have discounted Luis Gonzalez’s numbers b/c of his age. Saying otherwise is simply disingenuous.

It’s the problem with numbers, people can use them any which way to support their agenda. If you focused on top 200 prospects, the average age per league would look very much different.

Just outside the top 120 based on what rankings? Regardless, you’re right about guys like Gonzalez & Walker needing to prove themselves against higher level competition, which is exactly why when Walker finishes the year as a 23 year old in High A, no matter how well he’s done the performance will be discounted. And no, when you have six quality OF prospects (including one you just gave an unprecedented extension to) you should be able to bank on three of them becoming full time regulars. If that doesn’t happen and we need Walker to fill in a spot, the rebuild has gone terribly wrong. The reality is Walker will likely be a trade bait and we should not be conservative with his assignments.

I’m not trying to be a dick, but evaluating the quality of minor leaguers by their team’s Win-Loss record is just plain dumb. You should be judging these guys based on their individual performance and their tools / underlying ability.

Gotta disagree here, just look at Luis Gonzalez. Numbers wise he should be a top 100 prospect easily, but once you factor in age his performance is taken with a huge grain of salt and his trade value is impacted accordingly. That might not be an issue for Gonzalez as he is closer to the majors than some of our other guys and we’ll likely need to give him an opportunity, but the odds are Walker will become a trade chip and we shouldn’t purposely be suppressing his value IMO.

But the odds of him ever playing a game for the White Sox are incredibly low with six better OF prospects ahead of him. Therefore, all being conservative with his assignment does is suppress his value to teams potentially interested in him.

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but rebuilding teams shouldn’t be wasting playing time on league average types with limited ceilings. A guy like Sanchez shouldn’t get multiple years in a starting role. Once he’s established his value, he should be moved and the position should be opened up for another young player like Rondon in this case. And I like Yolmer, but him being here right now isn’t doing anything to help the rebuild.

He’s a fine baseball player, just need a starting caliber player.
