Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Chicago White Sox replied to yesterday333's topic in The Diamond Club
Can we please stop talking about Tatis? -
We’re so far away from needing to worry about a guy as talented as Machado being a model citizen and/or team leader. We need impact talent first and foremost and lot’s of it.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Chicago White Sox replied to yesterday333's topic in The Diamond Club
I’ll be honest, my concern with slow playing it was once another team jumped into the fray, it wouldn’t surprise if a billionaire owner decided he had to win the bidding strictly out of ego. Unfortunately that or more less happened. I’m just skeptical the Sox were actually leaking a 7/$175M offer. Not only would it potentially invite teams into the mix, but made them look cheap as fuck. -

If the Sox leaked the $175M offer, then Hahn should be immediately fired. I’m not sure if I beleive they were that stupid or not. -
I hope you’re right and people make their voices heard with their wallets & TVs, but the sad part will be when the Sox blame the fans for not being able to spend “a dollar when you only have 50 cents”. The lack of accountability at the top of this organization is sickening.
-
It’s really sad one free agent miss could do this to us all, but the way they blew it was just a punch to the gut. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and they completely betrayed that trust. Until they prove themselves in free agency I shall remain Jack Parkman skeptical.

This organization literally destroyed my optimism in one fair swoop and I hate it man. I need an under-the-radar strike of Harper for it to come back and I do think there is some small chance they could pull it off.
-
Doesn’t matter, we’ll get 2 win Puig next year for 4/$70M and lock down 3rd place finishes in the Central for the next half decade!!
-
Don’t believe the Dodgers are seriously considering Harper on a long-term deal, they seem like a Boras created threat to the other interested parties. I could see the Giants being legitimately interested in a 10 year deal though.
-
Who is Mike Rankin?
-
If Hahn gives that contract to Puig then he should be fired on the spot. Locking up $17M on a 2 win OF when we have half a dozen prospects would have a complete disaster Also, we should be able to accommodate more than two big contracts with the amount of young guys we’ll be relying on. Adding a veteran bat should have no bearing on our ability to add a stud pitcher.
-
It’s pretty clear to me that any opt-out should be after year 4. Heyward & Arenado both got them after year 3, but those were 8 year deals. If Harper wants a 10 year deal, he has to committ 4 years to an organization or the deal is way too player friendly. If I’m the White Sox, I’m offering 10/$330M with an opt-out after year 4. That way his camp can claim the largest contract ever and the largest AAV for a positional player.

Unless Adley falls to #3, I really hope we go with upside all else being equal. I wouldn’t necessarily hate the Vaughn pick in isolation, but the system will quickly lack potential impact talent after the next round of graduations and it’s time to put a greater emphasis on ceiling over floor IMO.
-
I believe it’s a mutual option.
-
I just think that is a bad plan. Moncada & Lopez are free agents after the 2023 season. Waiting until 2021 to compete means we have a three year window. We really can’t afford to wait that long. That’s the whole reason Machado (or Harper) was so important, because it jumps start the rebuild and helps us not just waste service of all our young guys while we slowly add around them.
-
I think he ends up resigning with the Nats, but if not I doubt you get much of a discount and you’ll have to pay him into his mid 30’s. That’s problem with most of the big name free agents next offseason, age wise they just don’t fit the rebuild very well.

2018-9 MLB off season free agency thread
Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, this rebuild is completely fucked when we miss on all our high end targets and the rich ass Yankees can lock up their talent to ridiculously friendly long-term contracts. -
Eloy opening day if he earns it
Chicago White Sox replied to 103 mph screwball's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have a really bad feeling the Sox put Eloy on the opening day roster in some demented way to appease the fans after the Machado (and likely Harper) miss. -
Dane Dunning: No TJS just yet, rest and monitor

Um, unless 2011 was somehow three years ago you are completely wrong. -
2019 Prospect Injury Hit List
Chicago White Sox replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in FutureSox Board
Yes, if you don’t mind moving it there, it would be a better location. -
Given our prospects are dropping like flies and it isn’t even March yet, I figured we should maintain a list of key injuries so that we can quickly identify which prospects have managed to survive the 2018 / 2019 onslaught (so far) and are somehow healthy for the time being. 02) Kopech, RHP - TJS / out for year 06) Dunning, RHP - TJS / out for year 07) Adolfo, OF - TJS / status TBD (throwing wise) 09) Basabe, OF - Hand injury / out 12 weeks 13) Burdi, RHP - Lat injury / delayed start to season 14) Burger, 3B - Achilles injury / out 2 to 3 months 20) Johnson, RHP - Lat injury / delayed start to season NR) Puckett - TJS / out for year Please let me know if I’m missing anyone of importance.

Dane Dunning: No TJS just yet, rest and monitor
Chicago White Sox replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m pretty sure I just expressed this exact concern like a week ago. But dumb question, is forearm discomfort the same as elbow pain? Is there reason to expect the worse here or could this be some lesser injury? -

Somehow Paddy has a job for life despite only a single LatAm signing reaching AA under his watch (and not even with us unfortunately). -
Still can’t believe Machado agree to an opt-out after five years. I fully expect Harper to push for three and maybe willing to accept four. Five years is a total pipedream.

Nolan Arenado to sign extension with the Rockies
Chicago White Sox replied to Kiebs13's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think all the guys you mentioned are interesting, just don’t see a centerpiece that warrants trading Rodon (although I’m admittedly lower than many here on Welker). Adding Lamber certainly would make the package more intriguing thought, but I’d probably still hold onto Rodon for another year.
