  1. He’s barely played at all and only struck out 16.5% in the AFL, I think we need to get you a jump to conclusions mat.
  2. I’m predicting we get this done by tomorrow for around 8/$280M. There will be some sort of swell-opt that guarantees us at least four years of control if exercised.
  3. I don’t follow. Hector has stood strong that our offer weeks ago was $8/$250M. If so, that is fantastic news because it means at a very minimum we’re currently equal to the Padres or within shooting distance. If we you believe what Nightengale & Heyman have said, we are way behind the Padres right now and I’d personally be terrified that we have no attention of approaching $300M. Hector’s reporting is a good thing if true.
  4. Well then this franchise is doomed. But I don’t believe it, not after we just spent $50M on a amateur LatAm signing.
  5. I am not all that familiar with most of the prospects in the upcoming draft yet, but I’d love for a college arm to shoot up to the top of the rankings and give us a non-zero chance of Adley slipping to 3rd.
  6. Lol...I almost pooped myself over the same or a similar alert.
  7. 100% agree. The Sox have zero to gain from putting their cards on the table until the other side is willing to agree to a deal. Therefore, there is no reason to believe our previous was our best offer.
  8. Well it should comfort you to some extent, because otherwise we should believe the Sox’s offer was somewhere between 7/$175M and like 7/$210m. If the Sox were at 8/$250M weeks ago, hard to believe they won’t go up another $20M to $30M to get this thing done.
  9. I’d be shocked too. Also, I meant “deferred” money and not “random” money lol. To me, a deferral-based is offer not a legit threat.
  10. Nightingale saying the Padres have offered Machado an eight year deal for somewhere between $240M & $280M. Heyman has suggested there be some deferred money.
  11. If the Padres have really offered that, my guess it comes with a ton of deferred money and the present value of it is substantially less. But regardless, offer 8/$280M and end this then.
  12. I must be drunk or something, but how does a $20M signing bonus change anything? The remaining $220M of the contract you’re proposing would be worth 5% less playing for the Padres, which is worth about $11M. And why can’t we offer a signing bonus if that’s ultimately important?
  13. If the Sox can’t beat that offer, then either Reinsdorf is a cheap fuck or Hahn has no idea what a player like Machado is really worth. Just offer 8/$270M and end this thing now.
  14. They better give him a $250M signing bonus then or else they can’t really get around it.
  15. And if he opts out in two years, then plenty of teams can out-bid. There is no positive spin to Machado signing with the Padres over us.
  16. Honestly, I don’t view Alonso & Jay being brought in as anything more than giving us a tie-breaker and making the thought of playing for a loser in 2019 a bit easier to digest. In all likelihood, Machado would rather play for the Sox than the Padres and as such his camp would bring any offers to us to match. Money was always going to be the primary factor here and I don’t think you waste $13M on Machado’s buddies (on one year deals no less) in hopes of that making up for a substantial gap in offers. I truly believe the Sox are prepared to go up to $300M if a team forces us there.
  17. This guy’s math is off. I’d wager it’s closer to 5% which is probably in the range of $12.5M to $15M.
  18. Oh I’d be more than disappointed, but unfortunately that’s a part of life. Can’t hide from your feelings when things don’t go your way. That being said, I’m still confident we end up with Machado. Also, I 100% disagree we don’t need a guy like Bryce or Manny. Without one of them or a similar caliber player, we’re relying on internally developed players to become all our stars and that’s an incredibly risky game to play. And we have a ton of financial flexibility that is completely worthless if we’re afraid to use it and that only gets harder after this year. As I said before, there is literally no excuse for not landing one of these guys.
  19. No, you’re telling everyone else we’re not going to get him and to be prepared for disappointment. If you need to tell yourself that’s fine, whatever, but stop polluting these threads with your over-the-top pessimism.
  20. And who do you think leaked that? It’s clearly coming from Lozano.
  21. My point was not to take Yoan taking grounders at 3B as being a bad thing as they’re just keeping their options open and Moncada would probably end up there if we end up with Harper instead of Machado.
  22. Hahn has been hinting all offseason of possibly moving Yoan to 3B depending on how the offseason shook out. IMO, the only way that wasn’t happening was if we added a legit stud 3B like Manny. Obviously I could be wrong here, but that’s how I and several others took his comments.
  23. I really don’t think Moncada taking grounders at 3B means anything. If they sign Harper, then Yoan likely ends up at 3B. Until there is resolution with the whales, might as well get him some practice at both positions.
