2018-2019 Official NBA thread
Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I don’t enjoy being a Debbie Downer, but our miracle happened when we won the draft lottery and got Rose. And our shitty front office couldn’t put the pieces around him to build a championship. I agree the potential for this organization to take a massive leap forward is there, but it won’t happen under GarPax and I just don’t see Michael Reinsdorf making any changes given his close relationship with Gar unless the cash suddenly stops flowing in. -

I’m going to keep saying it, but you guys really need to accept the fact the Bulls will be in NBA hell -
Madrigal has the highest probability in the entire organization (excluding Eloy) of becoming a 2-3 win player and it’s by pretty wide margin. You’re argument against Harper would apply to Machado as well then.
-
Yup, I truly believe we could afford both of them in the short-term and build a highly competitive roster with a payroll around $160M. That’s much closer to middle of the pack than top 5 in terms of payroll. And within three or four years, one or both guys will likely opt-out creating much needed flexibility as our young guys start getting expensive. The problem with this plan (which is where I think Hahn is coming from) is in the unlikely event both guys underperform and you’re suddenly plagued with two albatross contracts for the remainder of a decade. The risk of that happening may be small IMO, but it would be so catostrophic to the well being of the franchise if it did that I can understand Hahn’s reluctance.
-
I’m not concerned abou the Padres, just saying the Nationals are even less of a threat IMO.
-
I’m not following what’s going on there.
-
I’d be more concerned the Padres land one of these guys than the Nats. I refuse to say it can’t happen, but they’d be in luxury tax hell indefinitely.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Chicago White Sox replied to yesterday333's topic in The Diamond Club
Could be that too, but I lean the other way just because Dave & others seemed to think something was close at the time and IMO a Realmuto trade seems more likely to fit that billing than a Machado signing. -

I’m guessing this is related to Joc and that Hahn agreed to a trade for him that is dependent on the Dodgers landing Realmuto without giving up Verdugo. -
Lucas Giolito's 2019: Do or Die?
Chicago White Sox replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s 100% do or die for Giolito. He’s got to show substantial improvement if he wants any chance of sticking in the rotation. Realistically Rodon, Lopez, Kopech, & Cease are likely to be given spots next year. That leaves one spot for a big trade or signing (which I think will happen given the youth / innings caps for the latter two guys), Dunning, & a hole host of our other guys like Lambert, Flores, etc. The odds are already against him at this point IMO. -
Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Chicago White Sox replied to yesterday333's topic in The Diamond Club
Alright, I think it’s officially time for a new thread. This one has brought nothing but pain, suffering, Haikus, and random Caulfield references. -
I just don’t think there’s an alternative motive to bringing on Manny’s buddies. Like Alsono is legitimately overpaid and we helped out a division rival by taking him. Throw in Jay and the fact we tried to trade for him last offseason and I think all evidence suggests he’s our preferred target. Now maybe that’s because he’ll likely be cheaper, but it’s really hard to objectively argue against him being the priority.

Caulfield, I actually really like you as a poster, but I think this thread may have caused you to go insane. -
It should be pretty clear by now that Machado is the priority.

What is the ceiling for Manny Banuelos?
Chicago White Sox replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Banuelos is a bit different than most reclamation projects. For one, we actually traded for him despite the fact he would have been a minor league free agent. Given that our organization has one of the largest scouting departments in the majors, these are the types of signings that should theoretically pay dividends in the long-run. Guess we’ll have to see if zagging when everyone else is zagging works out here. -

This is totally a fair way to look at it, but in my mind the day you’re closer to 40 than 30 you’re officially in your late 30’s. -

Well hopefully we can both celebrate this monumental occasion by handing a 26 year old a quarter billion dollars to play for our favorite baseball team!! -

Ok, I’m just going to say it...we’re getting Machado in the next 10 days. The board has finally reached its breaking point and turned on its own. That tells me the baseball gods have finally seen enough suffering and will grant us the whale we much deserve. Also, no one should be giving Shack a hard time. He’s a high-integrity guy with strong connections and zero desire to pretend to be an insider for attention. If he provides a hint about something, just appreciate that he’s willing to share what he can. -
Realmuto to the Phillies - Sanchez/Alfaro+ to Marlins

What three way deal are you referring to? -
So who were the four that made it and what were their rankings?
