I know India has his fans here, but he would have been a poor centerpiece for the exact reason you stated.

I agree you can’t rely solely on defensive metrics, especially for catchers, so if he looked that bad to you I’m willing to accept his WAR is likely overstated. I still think he has to be a far superior catcher to Narvaez who has both the eye test & advanced metrics working against him.

While I’d normally be willing to accept defeat here ?, Carson wasn’t just missing by inches. He was all over the place and walking between 5 to 7 per nine innings. I’m not sure crisper offerings will change that enough, but clearly I’m not a pitching expert.

Lol...I got scolded for throwing out a theoretical Rutherford for Joc trade (from a value standpoint), but I’d without doubt be pissed if we gave up all three of those guys for Joc unless they plan on adding both Machado & Keuchel.

The difference is BP has him as one of the best framers baseball. Admittedly, I have to rely on the advanced metrics here, but despite his shortcomings he’s a pretty useful catcher if you believe the framing is legitimate going forward.

That’s totally fair, but even the Sox had to take pitching prospects in all three of their big deals. Sometimes that’s just the way the market shakes out. Now, if it comes out the Dodgers were offering Ruiz + Verdugo I totally get it. But I’d rather have Sixto than India if those were my centerpiece options.

I think you’re really underestimating how valuable Alfaro is. Even if you think Collins is a 50 FV prospect (which would be aggressive) he’d be much worth less than Alfaro IMO. Kid just put up 2.2 fWAR & 2.5 WARP in a 108 games last year.

But you’re only getting two years of said catcher. Sixto Sanchez is a legit 60 FV prospect plus they got a 25 year old catcher coming off a 2.5 WARP season who’s under control for five seasons. I think this is a fantastic return if you believe there is room for growth with Alfaro.

100% disagree here. Three months from now Fulmer could have zero value, while Joc is a cheap, useful player that could be traded at deadline and return sometime greater if necessary. The only reason you don’t make trade is if you’re convinced Driveline can return Carson to former 1st round pick glory.

Phillies don’t make this move unless they’re convinced they have Harper in the bag. That leaves Machado for us. And the Dodgers can now safely hold onto Verdugo, making Joc expendable.

Now that Realmuto is down, I think bigger pieces finally start moving including Machado & Joc to the Sox.

Let’s be honest, the security blurb never made any sense. The real smoke is coming from Gomez. His confidence is growing at a rapid pace and this Jordan tweet truly makes me think something is close to happening.

100% agree. These systems simply do not know how to project for young players with serious ability / tools but a lack of results. As we have seen in recent years, teams with developing young talent have greatly outperformed their PECOTA forecasts when those guys start to click.

I really don’t see Kluber getting moved at this point.
