  1. Regarding the bench, it really depends on the size (3 or 4 guys) and if we upgrade RF. Assuming Palka in RF, I think we’re looking at Yolmer, McCann plus one or two of Leury, Engel, & Rondon.
  2. Because he’s butt buddies with Machado. What do you not get about this??
  3. Sorry Parkman, but the Sox aren’t trading Abreu if they add Machado.
  4. You keep saying this but have provided zero ideas so far. Jon Jay cost us $4M total. If all goes well, Basabe should be ready by opening day 2020. A cheap, one-year stopgap is exactly what we needed. There’s no guarantee Jay works out, but he’s likely an upgrade over the turds we planned on running out there next year and doesn’t jeapordize the long-term viability of the rebuild.
  5. Projected lineup if we add Machado: Moncada, 2B Machado, 3B Abreu, DH Alonso, 1B Jimenez, LF Palka, RF Castillo, C Jay, CF Anderson, SS At least it would be semi-interesting.
  6. Fully agree. And on top of that, our OF is a complete wasteland at the moment and he’s literally blocking no one. This was a smart, cheap way to get Engel’s bat of the lineup against RHP.
  7. You keep ripping the career .729 OPS but do you realize that makes him a slightly above league average hitter? Probaly not because you’re ignoring his career OBP of .352 which is very good.
  8. He’s a career league average hitter who can play all three OF spots. You can rip his 2018 season with the bat, but he’s been a pretty solid OF for most of his career.
  9. Look at his Statcast data. Very good batter’s eye, but the quality of contact is well below average. I’m not completely writing him off, but you don’t hand a fringe guy like him a full time role after his half season last year.
  10. 100% agree. There is a legit “baseball move” case for signing Jay. Hahn probably had to pinch himself to avoid all-out laughter when he claimed the Alonso trade was made for “baseball reasons.”
  11. I was expecting about $3M, so we basically paid a $1M or so Manny tax. Not complaining though...happy to have Jay in the CF mix.
  12. You can’t actually be this dense, this is all about landing Machado. And Delmonico had his opportunity and blew it. Also, this likely takes away at-bats from Engel more than anyone.
  13. The White Sox are adding Manny’s buddies because they want to a have tie-breaker in case the money is close with the Phillies and it’s a small gamble worth taking.
  14. The Yankees won 100 games last year and are his desired location, we have the most losses in the MLB over the last six years. Did you really think we could replicate their sales pitch?
  15. Honestly, I just don’t see why anyone would care about this. Engel is not a major league regular, Cordell has lost most of his prospect status, and Leury is semi-interesting but is made of glass and hasn’t done enough to be handed a job. Jay is probably more of a 4th OF at this point, but he’ll come cheap and may be better than our current internal options in CF. Ultimately this all about appeasing Machado, but for a couple million bucks he wouldn’t be a terrible addition on his own merits.
  16. What other free agent OFs are considerably better AND can play CF?
  17. Does it though? Seems like he’s a 4th OF at this point and wouldn’t command much money. I bet he would simply take Engel or Leury’s spot on the roster.
  18. I’ll be honest, even with Eloy we got lucky. He probaly would have been untouchable just few months later if you believe he would have replicated his 2H 2017 performance (post trade) with the Cubs. We literally got him right before he took his game to another level.
  19. Let’s be honest, if cheating is so rampant around the league, I’m guessing the White Sox did their homework on Manny and talked to some people around the league before taking on Alonso’s $9M salary. I seriously doubt a reduced ability to cheat on his wife will have any consideration on his decision.
