Cardinals looking for pitching. MB to Cards?
chisoxfan09 replied to Mattchoo's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Buerhle continues to struggle do you think the Sox would sell his availabilty as "A change of scenery is needed"? The other factor is payroll. Whatever they take in for buerhle most likely counts against the massive pot they will need to re-sign Pujols longterm and keep him happy. -

Actual link with the interesting bits copied/pasted and BOLD. Link: http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...05?OpenDocument A club source also indicated interest in Baltimore Orioles starter Kevin Millwood but indicated that finances likely preclude the Cardinals from pursuing a winless pitcher still owed about $7.5 million of his $12 million salary. Kansas City Royals righthander Brian Bannister is believed available for the right price. Unlike Millwood, Bannister is on a tear, winning his last five starts while dropping his overall ERA to 4.50. Bannister, 29, is third-time arbitration-eligible after this season. Sounds like the main reason they would not pursue Buerhle. -

Balta, you are so right!! We are so busy venting we are ignoring this butt kicking going our way for once. -
Jones came with hish risk, high reward. He started really fast but has not been a factor recently.

I don't profess to know what is wrong but maybe some of this is just plain attitude if as you point out the team has a good amount of talent (I don't say a lot or a little). If you just give up then no amount of talent is going to help. You have to believe you can do it. In this desperate season people like me will make desperate comments. It goes with the territory. If it is attitude or giving up is that all on the player on some on the coach for not inspiring confidence?

Reloading doesn't work with this coaching staff. This same topic was just debated in the other thread. I would rather see a youth movement now.
-
I totally respect that, but as also has been just posted, you just can't keep trading away propsects or adding payroll to an already SH***Y set of ingridients. You can't anything to SH** as it will still be mostly SH**. Dunno I just don't see any sense in these comments. We obviously caught lightning in a bottle in 05 but have really sucked since then. Good inning. This is what is expected a mjority of the time, not once every 25 games or so.
-
But that's the thing. Reload with what money? You trade away pieces you start losing starters and hope to go with youth I would have thought. But if he is talking about relaoding that is obviously via trade?? What do we have to sacrifice to get impact players? Nothing. The farm is decimated. I don't get his comments at all. The season is pretty much a wash. He needs to make coaching changes as well. Maybe he is also part of the problem. But this is sounding like denial of reality to me.

Link: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...es-looming.html The White Sox helped promote the Prostate Cancer Foundation's "Home Run Challenge" that starts Wednesday night and runs through June 20. But there was sobering news of a different sort, as general manager Ken Williams acknowledged that some changes need to be made in the wake of the Sox's 24-33 start. "We're not talking about tearing something down," Williams said. "If we do something, it will still be along the lines of shuffling the deck with the expectation that we're going to add impact guys that can help us win." Nevertheless, several Sox players could be playing their final games soon. A BIG F'ing HUH?????????????? I guess they don't get it do they? Long year of pain ahead.

Let's turn out the lights and pray this party is truly over.

Glad to see he got the ERA under 4 now.

Great outing by Hudson. He bounced back from a poor start with classic stuff, 10K's and no BB's. Way to go. Morel really struggling.

White Sox select Chris Sale with #13 pick in MLB draft
chisoxfan09 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
Anyone know what kind of bonus he will command? -
This gets interesting from another point of view. With the selction of Sale we hopefully have a top flight starting pitcher in the wings for late 2011/early 2012. This could change things in that we should also have a top 10 pick next June. And we have still not picked up anyone from the 2nd round or below. It could be the start of restcking the farm for a long term plan to rebuild. This is really not as bad as it looks to me. If we can even trade off some of the players we have with high payroll and shed that then we have room to grow. But it would have to to be accepted that we offically dump the "Win Now" mentality.

OB, do you reckon he is ready for AA already? Or Advanced A? Judging on your calculation that he will be ready for the big in late 2012. -
If you had to guess one might say it is similar to what Zito went thru in his first 2 years with the Giants, he could not buy a win and no oe would trade for him. We are kinda there with MB. I hope the Cards at least listen if he is offered.
-
Dude, I think at least we have the 13th pick in 2 days or tomorrow and this year's mess guarantees another top 10 pick next year. If we rebuild then so be it. I for one would like to see some youngsters come up but with decent coaching.
-
It was really a matter of time. It will be very hard to deal Buerhle to Cardinals. I dunno if they bite with his past 12 months record. But like someone said maybe a change of scenary will do him well.
