Hahn's next move?
Hahn's next move has to be for a C or LF. Our team is pretty set for a while most places. Davidson at 3B for the next 5 yrs. Abreu at 1B for the next 6 yrs. Some combination of Alexei/Bacon/Semien/Sanchez at 2B/SS for the next 7-8 yrs? Anderson and Johnson coming too. Garcia in RF for the next 4-5 yrs. Eaton in CF for the next 5 yrs. We all know the catcher "depth". I think if we wanna win next year we should trade Viciedo, De Aza + for a really good left fielder with serious pop, or catcher. I also wouldn't mind just dumping Dunn by whatever means and using DH and LF to rotate Tank, De Aza and Konerko. I think De Aza is a very useful player in a lineup.

Hahn's next move?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 05:06 PM) How was it that when Adam Dunn started doing exactly what people like this keep asking for and swinging early in the count for the entire month of April, he was one of the worst hitters in the league and somehow no one remembers that? No I agree. Both versions of Adam Dunn suck is what I'm saying. The fact that he himself said the "stupid, stubborn ways" comment infuriates me. He's so lucky to be playing pro ball and is paid tons of money to be the absolute best Adam Dunn he can possibly be. Saying "SSW" comes across as a guy not trying his hardest- unacceptable right? He's not a tough out Balta. Concede that point brother

Hahn's next move?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) I think they both work...but man am I sick of the "how can we have these guys on this roster they strike out too much!" stuff. We were 15th in MLB in strikeouts, dead middle of the Pack. Boston, who had a vastly better offense than us, had 101 more strikeouts than us. "I don't like watching guys strike out!" isn't a complaint about an offense. Guys like Konerko, Beckham, and Keppinger had low strikeout totals last year and they were some of the most useless players on the roster. It's not Tyler Flowers and Adam Dunn striking out too often that killed us last year. It was Flowers and the rest of the guys not doing the things that they are capable of doing. It's not just the strikeouts though man. The strikeouts are merely a symptom of a greater disease that festers inside of Flowers/Dunn: the inability to be a tough out. I know that concept is alien to numbers guys on this site because it isn't quantified. It could be though if someone was to watch every AB and note every time they couldn't play productive team ball. (Paraphrases): AD a few years ago- "I'm not paid to hit singles." AD last year- "My stupid stubborn ways, I guess I can try hitting away from defenders." Me- "f*** you."

Hahn's next move?
QUOTE (professa @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 12:29 AM) I think we're pretty much done except for trading away one of keppinger/de aza/viciedo. I think we stick with flowers phegley. Flowers, if he plays to his potential, can produce to at least a .235/.325/425 with 20 HRs and 60 RBI. I say give the kid another year see if he can do it. I say we trade Kepp and send cash for a low level spec. Gives us 1. Eaton Bench Rotation Pen 2. Ramirez 1. De Aza 1.Sale CL: Nate Jones 3. Garcia 2. Garcia 2.Quintana SU: Lindstrom 4. Abreu 3. Gillaspie 3.Johnson Su: Belasario 5. Dunn 4.Phegley/the other guy we picked up 4.Danks MR: Downs 6. Viciedo 5.Rienzo/Paulino MR: Daniel Webb 7. Davidson MR: Petricka 8. Flowers 9. Beckham Can go with another bench guy or reliever...our bench does look pretty versatile little pop, speed, and some decent gloves. I dunno man. If Hahn truly believes we can be competitive then how can you have Flowers AND Dunn on the same roster? At least Beckham n Tank can make consistent contact. Dunn and Flowers are automatic outs except for maybe 150 ABs between them.

Sox should trade for Samardzija
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 10:30 AM) Danks was a better prospect than BMac and LH. I never understood what the Rangers were thinking. Me neither. Didn't they add another pitcher that offseason. They were trying to be legit for the first time.

Hahn's next move?
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) While not as good as he was earlier in his career, Dunn has been pretty close to as advertised the past two seasons. 2011 was obviously an epic failure, but the guy has blasted 75 home runs the past two seasons. That's Adam Dunn. The fact that he might be extra motivated this year can only help us. Unless he goes into a colossal Dunn-like whiff fest of a tailspin from the pressure of playing for a new contract. Beat that shift buddy!

Sox agree to 1 yr deal with Scott Downs
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) Looks like Rick Hahn had a case of the Downs Syndrome! This is so beyond tactful that I can't stop laughing.

Hahn's next move?
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) Personally I think that unless you get an MLB-proven young player (who would of course be very expensive) the C situation is pretty much addressed. Loabton excites me like cauliflower in my food. I'd rather we get no MLB backup guy than get someone like that. I'm not sure there's anything left to do there if you can't land a big fish. Then there's the IF sitaution/bench. This would sort itself out pretty well with a trade of Alexei and/or Gordon, but there are other smaller options like dumping Dunn to keep Kepp, dumping Kepp, etc. that could happen if the Sox eat cash. Maybe Gillaspie goes, but I think the Sox would rather keep him as a 1B/3B/LH PH type, and I'd say he makes more sense than Kepp does at this point. Also I'm not sure anyone should be penciling Davidson in for the Opening Day roster at this point. There's there's the SP situation which looks like 3 lefties plus Johnson and some sort of battle between Paulino and Rienzo, but I don't think it would be shocking if the Sox brought in someone else. Rienzo = bleh IMO, Paulino may not be ready, and the Sox might want to use those guys more to push Johnson than anything else. Then there's the DeAza situation with Viciedo looking like he'll take that PT from him. Currently with the bench Jordan Danks doesn't have a spot, which on the surface isn't much of a problem however it is nice to have a true CF and OF on the bench, not just a UT IF being your only real OF bench option. Lastly, the Downs signing pushes Leesman and Veal into a competion with Rodriguez and others, but a small move for another LH project ala Borchard for Thornton/Gload for Sisco/Guerrier for Marte would still make a lot of sense even with Veal out of options. There are probably some other things I'm missing too. So what happens next? I would guess Dunn is sent packing. His presence represents the recent failures of the team, and without his departure, I feel like the FO can't truly sell this team as a fresh look...to the majority of the fanbase.

Who Closes?
Half the posters here think Dunn is a good player to have in the middle of the order on a contending team; half don't. Hopefully half the GMs in baseball think so too and a bidding war erupts. Hopefully a lot of things in life.

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (professa @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) Agreed. Even 2-3 years down the road look at this potential lineup, even without any free agent signings 1. Adam Eaton, CF 2. Tim Anderson, SS 3. Avisail Garcia, RF 4. Jose Abreu, 1B 5. Courtney Hawkins, LF 6. Dayan Viciedo, DH 7. Alex Jackson, C (Taken with 3rd pick this year) 8. Matt Davidson, 3B ( See him as a .230/.240 guy w/ 20HR/80RBIs, which is obviously better than what we have and at 8 in the order, that pop is nice) 9. Marcus Semien, 2B That's impressive, and if a couple of these guys don't pan out, we can always sign a FA. Really optimistic Rick has done an outstanding job. Has added 4 impact bats since he took over. It's incredible. Well said. Tanaka would be tasty.

Who Closes?
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) This. I'd do it every year, if it was possible. Yea you figure a new name will emerge from AA this year as well. The White Sox organization is quite impressive in some areas.

Floyd Signs W/Braves (1yr deal)
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Pitcher A - 16-6, 3.49 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 167.2 IP, 30 GS Pitcher B - 12-10, 3.05 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 204.1 IP, 31 GS Tell me, who are you going to sign? If you truly believe that W-L means anything, you are going to pick pitcher A, which means you are going to take Jorge De La Rosa over Felix Hernandez. You'd have a tough time justifying that to the fan base. W-L is meaningless for a pitcher. Of course you're right here. But I don't think it dismisses Kitekrazy's point entirely. No matter what we will never be able to quantify certain intangibles like "gettin it done".

Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 05:01 PM) Anyone getting the assumption that if Sox do somehow deal Danks that Hahn will go hard after Tanaka? That would make for two really smart signings. No picks surrendered and way below market contracts if players live up to even some of their potentials. Tanaka and Abreu have to be at least serviceable right?

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) WTF is that bull? Like how he refused to play 1b last year when Konerko got hurt (oh wait he did, he was just really bad at it). Like how he spent the whole first month of the season being terrible because he was trying to do what the hitting coach asked him to do by swinging earlier in the count and putting the ball in play more (and then when he started being more patient suddenly started hitting HR again)? He won't shorten his swing with 2 strikes IMO. That's the worst crime to me from a guy in the middle of the order. You gotta be a tough out.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) Don't forget about the NL teams who need a 1B... Not the best option for 1b, but still a possibility. This all sounds like wishful thinking. While Dunn is arguably one of the worst Sox ever, that same fact will probably keep him here thru 2014. Nobody wants to pay for a guy who won't play team ball.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) Chances we see Hahn make moves at the winter meetings this upcoming week? I'd say pretty good since talks are heating up...

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
I understand that what the cubs are doing has brainwashed some people. If everything goes right for them, then they will have 3-5 core players come up to the big leagues together in a few years, and then after a few years of adjusting, they should contend. 2018? All Hahn is doing is basically saying "f*** that". We just added 2 potentially dynamic young guys to our already massive young core at the MLB level. I would take our position over theirs every time. While I respect the rebuild thought process, I just can't see how it applies in the least bit to the White Sox. We already have tons of good, young guys having success at the MLB level. Keep adding good young guys Rick because at the end of the day, all you need to win is good players.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Is all of that worth it for a .500 team? Even if we change all of the "luck" and manage to win 85 games that's still not anywhere really near the playoffs in the AL. IDK, maybe I'm different, but I've always been a championship contention or bust type of person. I'd rather lose for 2 straight years and come back with a well built team than throw together team that is simply designed not to loose a lot but has no real shot of winning anything when its all said and done. Haha. Too funny. Call me different, but I prefer good tasting food to bad tasting food.

With Abreu Signing; Konerko Not Out
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) Not that Dunn is particularly good or anything, but getting rid of him to keep Konerko is one of the most illogical moves I've seen. It makes no sense on any level. C'mon man. If you look at it through the casual fan's eye it makes sense. The casual fan absolutely hates Dunn with a passion. They don't say "Oh 30 hrs at the end of the year, nice." You always hear something like "that motherf***er strikes out or fails every time I see him bat" or "why the f*** can't he get over his self-quoted 'stupid, stubborn ways' and learn to hit the baseball away from the shift." This is the casual fan. Not my opinion but what you hear on the streets, at the game, at backyard bbqs, playing bags etc. How can you pretend this line of thinking isn't everywhere in Chicago? It doesn't make sense on any level? That's ludicrous man when you know damn well the city generally despises him more than any Sox I can think of in recent memory. I'd even try to argue Dunn's presence results in tickets not being sold.

Viciedo and Ramirez not "safe" because of Abreu
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 07:25 PM) I still doubt the Sox move either of them. Especially Viciedo, he's still only 24, and will be just 25 on opening day. That's still years away from his "prime" years. He still could turn into a nice offensive middle of the lineup bat. This has to receive precedence I think and we can contend even if he goes pile of terds on us. Hahn's apparent drive to expedite the process has me as excited as I've ever been during an offseason.
