  1. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 27, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) Not that I am for trading Quintana, I am very curious as to what the best prospect package we could receive for him. Me too. I also want to know the best young MLB position player we could get straight up for him. According to fan graphs, only 8 guys 24 or younger put up over 3 WAR seasons, in this order: Harvey 6.1 Sale 5.1 Fernandez 4.2 Quintana 3.7 Bumgardner 3.7 Corbin 3.7 Strasburg 3.2 Porcello 3.2 How do we find a comparable hitter? The same search for batters comes up with plenty of interesting names. Quintana was the 4th best young pitcher by WAR. I'm pulling for Arenado+ from the Rockies if we trade him. That guy might have an "it" factor about him.
  2. Haha all these years I thought it was Jamshack
  3. QUOTE (ottawa_sox @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 11:06 PM) How about 'Commie brawn'. Kid's got Island Hands.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) Back to back to back! Haha I can still picture that infomercial from what, 2000ish? Back to back to back AAU national championships.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) What would make a lot of scouts fly to Chicago? The fact that it's 1940 I guess
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) How so? I't's dealing from a strength to fill a weakness or two. Yea but you are dealing one of the two pitchers that are way above average. I understand your point but I guess I hope that some GM is in love with Hector's upside. Danks, Johnson and Rienzo could all be really really bad next year. Hector and Q too. Q is the surest bet behind Sale tho.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) At least we have the Bulls/Bears/Hawks, however, there's just this special feeling you get when you watch the White Sox that you don't get when you watch one of the previously listed teams. Well said. A good white sox team has no equal. Baseball is the best games that humans have come up with.
  8. I agree on an emphasis to acquire a superstar. We need to become the hot baseball ticket in town. It's there for the taking.
  9. Too platoony for my liking and 15 position players is too many, especially if they collectively suck. I think you're right that we will see a lot of the same next year and we probably need to being so young, but I hope Hahn addresses 1 more position for the future this offseason. 2 Quality long-term pieces in 3 months is good work thus far, and 1-2 more and we're set. Sale For Trout- Greatest trade ever
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) I have seen it equated to A+ ball How often do we see traditional players put up Abreu's numbers in A ball? 11 million is not much risk
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) It's all posturing. Just like Hanh said the DAY OF the Abreu signing that nothing will be happening for a while. It's that time of year to read between the lines and rely on critical thinking. 2 + 2 = 5 Plus it's only 11M. If this dude even sniffs any kind of potential then it's a steal.
  12. It's too good a fit him being lefty and us having developing righties.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 08:35 PM) I'd much rather trade Hector because I think this year was a fluke. His control and walks will catch up to him and make his ERA rise. Sale and Q are keepers. I'm torn with Hector. He's a little bit more control away from being a really good pitcher. At the same time I feel like he'll never be a consistent threat to go deep into games. If the latter is true then trading him at maybe close to peak value might help inject life into a young, unproven lineup...I just don't know where the majority of other GMs stand. He's gotta be worth a good young MLB position player, like an Adams or Eaton who project high but haven't figured s*** out yet in limited ABs. At least right? Hector has dominated at times.
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 07:20 PM) Whoa. I love this. I got to watch him pitch in person three times this season. How would you rate hid mound presence? Man, I love a low WHIP.
  15. I like the idea of Semien forcing his way up instead of breaking camp with him, just to avoid any "he was rushed" hypotheses.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) We have an opening at 1b and there's a Cuban 1b available. I can't get past that. The fit is too good. If you can fill that spot, then it all becomes up to management about which guys they hold. Do they think Phegley can be legit in his 2nd year or Flowers can be a lot better after surgery? Do they think Beckham can stay healthy and his problems last year were injury only? Do they think Viciedo and Garcia can hit? Do they think De Aza can remember how to run the bases and so on? And what's available in trades that would be better than those guys? I can make guesses about those but those are the things Rick Hahn has to decide. Couldn't agree more at 1B. Like you said there are so many guesses and prayers with the young guys. It's still possible KW's plan with all these guys he acquired pans out, just later than expected. But s***, I hope Rick is decisive enough to just move on at some positions. Selling low sucks but so does holding on to a losing hand praying for a good river card. Too bad Tank, Beckham and Flowers suck. Man we'd be so good if they lived up to potential. Prospects.....ughhhh.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) I don't think Dunn is immoveable or immobile, he runs the bases fairly easily when he hits home runs. He also puts his head down and sobs pretty well too on his way back to the dugout. Maybe the plan is to pray Tank fully turns the corner in LF next year and then slide him to DH forever once Dunn leaves, with him him hopefully becoming our BIg Papi. That's probably best case scenario for Tank and the Sox moving forward. Worst case scenario sure sucks to imagine, which is probably the reality of it all.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) Staying put next year could be a way to give the kids additional playing time and decide who to spend money on the next offseason. It could also add 2 years of top draft picks in and save money that could be spent down the road. Dunn might be finally moved to save more, and who knows what else could become available. That said, I don't think it's the right move with the FA market as it is this year to just "punt" on the year, but several people here have advocated doing so, and even if next year is a lost cause, Chris Sale will still be under contract for 5 more years afterwards. I guess the key is identifying which kids management gives playing time to next year. If the answer isn't "all of them from 2013" then I see no reason not to go out and at least add one more real solid piece to the core. With the new piece added and Avi already here I'd probably be satisfied with the offseason. We really need a superstar offensive player. It's that simple. Now who the f*** is that??!
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) 2011 was a sign of decline as well. He still doesn't have a .200 average in a White Sox uniform, the advanced metrics article I read pointed out that his 40 homer 2012 was the second least productive 40 homer season in history. Granted even the least productive 40 homer seasons still provide value. Look at his numbers June 1, 2013, It was like 2011 all over again. And his September was one for the books. Even when people are satisified with Adam Dunn, he is just as bad as he was in 2011 for half the year. He goes bad for months at a time. He had crazy monthly splits. He was either an All Star or a guy that should be selling beer in the stands. The only aberration was that in 2011 it lasted the entire season. The performance that occured then is not a complete aberration. It still occurs just as often as when he is productive. Yes. The aberration of his stats during his time with the White Sox, which is all that could possibly matter here, is the hot streak. The guy can't hit- I can't believe people still want to argue that his 40 HRs helped more than his 500 worthless PA hurt....from our 3 hole...Mercy.
  20. The only way I see a team taking a risk on Ozzie is if their manager dies or gets canned midseason, and they need somebody capable of leading a contending,maybe veteran team to the playoffs. Fill in only. Hero potential, then maybe an extension. But I just can't see any team with Ozzie Guillen as Plan A going into a season.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 11:02 PM) Brilliance: Measured in risky threads/replies ratio. Best thing a human can do in real life: Summit K2 and BASE jump off? The best thing a human can do in Soxtalk world: Make risky thread, max replies.
  22. One thing we do need is competitive veteran leadership. Granderson brings with him a few intangibles that might outweigh his horrid splits. I'd still prefer jacoby because 1) he's a more balanced hitter 2) he really makes us solid defensively, taking tons of pressure off Tank and AG. I think it makes more sense. I'm torn.
  23. This makes me want to puke. Might as well extend Dunn's contract and bat them 3-4 for the next 7 years.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 12:37 AM) I thought we could keep A. Garcia, Viciedo (pray he can become a hitter) and Dunn (where's he gonna go) and get rid of basically everybody else. I don't think this will happen but I wouldn't be pissed if it did.
  25. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 6, 2013 -> 08:53 PM) I don't think any team should ever rebuild unless the entire roster is talentless. I'm surprised how many people voted for it. I'd venture there are a lot more examples of last to 1st then there are rebuilds that pay off in a short period of time. And sustained sucess is nothing but a mirage. Large payroll teams can do it and those lucky enough to have stumbled across great draft classes and luck with injuries. Amen brotha.
